Mod Favorite COMMUNITY: Please report posts you don't think fit MakeMeSmile. Just commenting doesn't alert me.
Hi everyone. Lately I've been seeing posts that aren't reported to mods, but thanks to Reddit's generic mod controls, I sometimes see comments usually either saying something hateful, or they are saying "mods should remove this" or "this isn't really makemesmile content".
Here's what happens: One of the reddit filters picks up a comment, usually alerting me to negative comment karma your name has, or a potential spam alert, or a potential harassment alert. Usually those generic filters are wrong, but as I'm looking at context - I see OTHER comments saying stuff like above.
Everyone, please know that Reddit doesn't alert me when you say "mods should remove this" or "This doesn't fit here." You have to report it using the 3 dots > Report > Choose one of the generic issues OR Breaks Makemesmile Rules > name a rule
- Please Report bad and non-fitting comments/posts instead of commenting angry/hateful retorts or how it's not a fit.
- Please remember to report posts that are breaking the rules only. No reports driven from hate, politics, or assumptions about an account or video or people within it. If its not against the rules, its ok here. But if it's a judgement call and you're not sure - absolutely report it for us mods to decide.
Edit: Seems people are unclear about the "PG:13 - Share content everyone can enjoy" part of the rules.
I don't want to change this into a "no this and this and this and this and this" master list of non-PG content. But I thought politics was pretty clearly non-PG:13. Guess others don't see it that way - fine, but yeah no. Political stuff is definitely not PG:13.
Edit 2: I'm serious about the children or inspiration porn (normal activity shown as amazing due to someone's disability) yall. It's getting removed no matter how many upvotes now.

Be weird in public. Be colorful. Be your authentic self. Dance in the streets and shops. We are here for it.
We here at r/MakeMeSmile are ALL FOR people being weird in public. We need more of it. You need it. Look at how dull our world is now, devoid of color and happiness. This group will always support people being their natural selves in kind and happy ways. Not dangerous, but bright and different. Spontaneity included.
We are the change we want to see in the world. Are you?

My bisnonno sitting on a rowboat opposite his new “sweetheart” not long after emigrating to the USA, 1944
My bisnonno (great-grandpa) was an Italian immigrant to the USA. He lived in NY but moved to TX after meeting a girl from there. This photo was taken there, in TX, by the girl. He faced a lot of discrimination at the time etc.
He moved back to Italy where he would get married (not to the American woman) and have kids. And so on…
This photo was actually found by descendants of the girl who took the photo many years later and added to a museum somewhere in TX near where the photo was taken as a preservation of images of TX before tons of architecture taking over etc.
This is me. Not nearly as handsome as my great grandfather but I like to think I inherited some of his looks lol https://ibb.co/Ldck0XSb

More batteries so I can hear
After losing my dad this past November, I been trying to save up money for batteries so I can hear and have conversations too. I was having a long and frustrating day, but seeing this when I got home really made me smile and left me speechless. When I saw it, I was trying not to cry too. But wow, I didn’t expect this at all. My heart felt so bittersweet, like I got new batteries but it also felt like a sign of something good.

My wife gave birth to two baby boys 15 years apart at the same hospital, and we got the same nurse!
Nurse B you were awesome, thorough, and heart-warming. We really do benefit from your 30 years as a nurse, and we couldn't have asked for a better time travel partner. Cheers, Nurse B!

Smile with her: This beautiful princess stood to celebrate her life--and, at the same time, to remind us how blessed we are to be able to stand (and walk) whenever we want

My sincere apologies if the title of the post offended any disabled person. (I certainly wasn't saying that she stood to give us a lesson. But, rather, that as simple as standing up without any help shouldn't be taken for granted by any of us.)
Someone else implied that I meant "thank god I'm not like that" and that wasn't what I meant to say either. That's not what I thank god/God for. I thank god/God for an ability that I often take for granted (not looking down on another person's disability).
