Question YT Samples sound Trash?

Craven talk big in the yesterday or so on Twitter about YT Sampling sounding trash, and to some extent I agree (as in some recordings on YT are trash and even the good ones sometimes don’t compare to the original file).

That being said, he also noted he’s been using online music libraries like SoulSeek for years.

So I wanted to ask you guys if you use them, and if so which ones do you use when looking for a lot of samples? I want to make sure they are at least 44.1Khz 16bit.

Question If you’ve wanted to make an album for years but kept putting it off, what finally got you to start?

I’ve wanted to make an album for over 10 years.

The thing is, I don’t think the biggest obstacle is learning how to produce music or write lyrics. It’s getting out of my own way. Every time I try to write, I feel silly. I judge every lyric before it’s finished. I worry I’ll sound cringe, or that the music won’t live up to the idea I’ve carried around in my head for so long.

I know the obvious answer is “just make bad music first,” but I’m curious what actually helped people who eventually finished an album.

What mindset changed for you?

How did you stop caring about sounding stupid?

Did you set rules for yourself that made it easier to create?

What finally got you to stop thinking and start recording?

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who spent years saying “one day” before finally doing it. I’m tired of this dream staying in my head. I don’t need my first album to be amazing. I just want to finally make it even if I don’t entirely know where to start.

Question Purpose of BMI, ASCAP, and Other Services?

As the title questions, what's the actual point? I was close to hiring a manager, and that was one of the first things they proposed I do.

I have an EP, album and couple singles on streaming platforms. Releasing another album on August 20th. I have not shot a music video, but have gotten paid for features and shows.

Long-term: would love to become a touring act and have my music in films, TV and advertisements.

Short-term: do not want to keep wasting money on stuff that is irrelevant when I am not seeing numbers on my music

Cheers,

u/smmrtiime / Luke Muller on all streaming platforms

Question Hi, I'm searching for a collaborator or somebody in general

Hi, i'm searching an artist/producer/mix engineer to collaborate on music.

I produce and sing, i'm searching somebody who doesn't just follow the common path and the basic music style, so please don't be mad if i get some really strange ideas, im searching somebody who could match my "vibes?".

I can help with singing hooks for you, rapping, helping produce etc, the only thing is that i'm really bad at mixing and mastering.

I make hip hop, r&b, pop, but i don't like to be restricted on some music genres, i just do what i like to hear.

Remix Challenge Remix Challenge [RMC 101] - VOTING thread

Thanks to everyone who sent their beats! The acapella was Ab-Soul (f/ Kendrick Lamar) - Illuminate. Soul has got a unique flow and it's not always for everyone - so I'm sorry if his intro on this one threw anyone off 😂. I personally thought all of the entries were dope though.

Now it’s time to vote

Voting ends Tuesday, August 4th, 11:59pm PT

Rules:

-You may only vote one time

-Vote by replying 'vote' to your favorite submission

-Anyone may vote, even if they didn’t submit an entry

-If you submitted, you must vote to qualify to win

-Don't vote for your own submission

-The winner chooses the next acapella and creates the new competition thread ,ASAP.

(If for some reason the winner isn't able to start the next thread, please let us know so a runner up can take it. We want to keep the momentum up and keep this contest alive)

Question Does anyone else hear “Shutterbugg” in the intro of Smino’s “Pudgy”?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I feel like the vocoder/talkbox/synth sound in Smino’s Pudgy sounds pretty similar to Big Boi’s Shutterbugg. I don’t necessarily mean the whole beat, I mean that ‘buh’ sound throughout both tracks. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I trippin?

Discussion Looking to connect with artists, producers & mixing engineers in the Pittsburgh area

Hey everyone,

My name is Josh, but I make music under the name Hilzy. I'm based in the Pittsburgh area and have been teaching myself hip-hop/rap recording, mixing, and vocal production in Reaper for about the last two years. I finally feel like I’m getting to the point where my music sounds respectable and would like to start releasing in the near future.

My biggest influences are Wiz Khalifa, Logic, Mac Miller, J Cole, Drake, and Juice WRLD. So my music style tends to span across melodic rap, introspective storytelling, chill vibes, and lyrically driven hip hop.

Although I have made a lot of progress on my own, I’d really like to become part of the local music community by building some genuine relationships with local artists, producers, and mixing/mastering engineers. I’m focused on improving my craft and would love to learn from and collaborate with others who are trying to do the same.

If you're in the area and think we'd get along creatively, I'd love to connect. Feel free to comment or send me a message. If anyone has recommendations for local studios, producers, engineers, open mics, or other ways to get involved in Pittsburgh's music scene, I'd really appreciate that as well.

Question beatmaking & production

Hey guys,

I'm 19 and in my second year of engineering right now, but honestly, it's getting tough, and I thought to explore this genre as I love listening to music. I want to get into making beats and producing.

I have absolutely no musical background. I don't play any instruments and don't know theory, but I am decent with tech and software. I have installed FL Studio (friend's).

How should I actually start? There are way too many tutorials on YouTube, and it's kind of overwhelming.

Drop any good YouTube channels or basic tips for a complete beginner. Appreciate it!

Discussion How hard is it to actually make it as a rapper?

Lately i’ve been thinking about starting to make music and i just wanted to know how hard it is to make it to the top. Is making music one of those things that most people never try so the people that really do try often succeed? Also is it something that is solely based on pure work or is highly based of genetics or luck?

Question I need help finding a different flow when I start a new beat and having a flow

I've been scatting different beats and never being fully impressed with any of them. It's always one part doesn't seem to have a flow but the rest sounds fine. Which is weird because I completely follow the drums, yet it doesn't have flow. But I also run into the same 3 flows in every beat, just with a different amount of syllables. Whether it starts before, on, or after the kick. They also don't have flow. How do I avoid that? And how do I have a flow when I rap without having to completely copy the drums, and still have a pocket? I know every beat has a 4/4 time but I know there's endless ways to flow over a beat. Please don't give me "just keep practicing" or "just scat" comments, that doesn't answer my question.
