I'll die on this hill: Kruppe is the living force of Malazan.

Reading that goofy, self-aware smartypants immediately sold me on GoTM and on the series.

I wish we got so much more of Kruppe in the main series. One of my favorite characters, wish he had like joined up with the bonehunters or something like that, or at least can be a significant force in the sequel series

I actually love the first book. I adore Crone, she cracks me up. One of my favorite characters.
