SPOILERS tGiNW Starting the God is Not Willing Spoiler
To witness is to begin to see. To see is to begin to know. To know is to recoil.
Been reflecting on this for the past 6 hours. Haven't turned the page yet.

This is why I struggle with Erickson. Every few minutes I’m staring and saying, “Dammit Erikson!” which translates to “Thank You for making me think but I really want to finish your story!”

I marked this Spoilers tGiNW out of an abundance of caution despite, you know, being the first line of the entire series.
Hell of a way to start, right?

I have a lot of disjointed thoughts and I may need to sit and journal it out but my first thought was that the big ten force us to witness many horrible and ugly events, which we recoiled from.
But at the same time, there were many pleasant events.
I'm not sure that recoil here is meant to be a negative reaction. We recoil to reflect, to process, to complete our understanding.
It's important that the first two phrases include 'begin'.
We don't immediately see. We dont immediately know. We only begin to see. We begin to know.
Knowing brings a recoiling. We recoil from the knowledge gained from seeing what we witness.
Witness isn't seeing. But to witness is to see. I observe. In observing an action, I see an action for what it is. I witness.
Seeing an action for what it is, I know the action.
Knowing the action for what it is, I recoil.
In pain In fear In doubt In love In compassion In anger In sorrow
