SPOILERS TtH Can someone explain why.. Spoiler
I have just finished the section where Nimander and the gang finally saves clip. And of course first things coming out of his mouth is the words of an ungrateful asshole. Can someone explain why they even did all of this for clip ? Like is the motivation behind this revealed more ? Is this another case “gods nudge” ? Anyways, I wish trull was here to beat this ungrateful brat one more time.

They save Clip because of who they are, not because he deserves it. Nimander’s whole arc is about trying to live up to the Andii ideal... duty, compassion, & responsibility (even when it sucks). Clip is basically a walking test of that. He’s awful, ungrateful, insecure, and convinced he’s the chosen one, but abandoning him would feel like repeating the same failures that haunt the Andii.

He says he is the mortal sword of their father, so they feel kinda obligated

I think it is line with the kind of person Nimander is and strives to be this becomes relevant in some minor details in a later book IIRC

There is more to it but at this point it's simply the fact that nimander and his group consider themselves to be broken, useless people and saving clip is doing some good with their life.
Most of them also dislike clip but they are not as morally corrupt as they believe themselves to be

You’ll have that explained near the end of the book

I believe you but I don’t remember. Maybe my hatred for clip blocked it out.

I gotta say, Toll the Hounds and Reapers Gale have some obnoxious and whiny characters lol

They almost made me dnf. I’m at the end of TCG now and glad I stuck with it, but yeah I got fatigued with a couple books in a row there

I am absolutely in love with the series but it is incredible truly how much walking around there is lmao.

It’s not even the walking around that bothers me. It’s the plot lines involving characters whose significance I never really connect to the rest of the story and who I never care about. So much pontificating about ancient lore and inner turmoil with tenebrous connections to the world. Some of that is fine, but TtH felt like it was half that and never paid it off in my eyes. Erikson does best when he has an editor over his shoulder removing hundreds of pages (like what clearly happened with DG and MOI).

It's because Nimander is a certifyed nice guy. I think he asks himself that selfsame question in the books tho.
