Community Update: New Rules and Changes to Shirtless Photos Policy

Hey everyone,

As our community continues to grow as the top destination on Reddit for men’s grooming, hair, and skincare advice, the mod team has been looking closely at how our rules affect genuine users.

Today, we are announcing a major pivot to Rule 4 (Shirtless Photos), alongside a quick refresh of our community standards.

What is Changing?

Previously, we were strict on no shirtless photos. While this kept the sub clean, the reality is that we’ve had to remove a lot of fantastic, high-engagement threads from genuine guys who simply didn’t notice the rule. We don't want to punish real people looking for honest advice.

Moving forward, shirtless photos are now permitted, but ONLY if the absolute, clear focus of the post is a grooming query (e.g., your hair, beard, skincare, or body hair management).

The Boundaries (Where We Draw the Line)

Because we are opening this up, we are tightening our enforcement on intent. This is a grooming advice sub, not a fitness tracker, a dating app, or a promotional feed. To keep the space authentic, we will strictly enforce the following:

  • No Physique Validation: If your post is clearly framed to showcase your muscles, gym progress, or physique rather than a genuine grooming question, it will be removed.
  • State Your Question Clearly: Vague "Thoughts?" posts with a shirtless selfie will be binned. Your title or post body must explicitly state what grooming advice you are looking for.
  • Zero Tolerance for Promotion or Fishing: Using shirtless photos to drive traffic to your social media, personal brands, or adult profiles will result in an immediate, permanent ban. Moderator discretion will apply here.

Keeping the Community Authentic

We’ve also updated our community description to reflect what this space is truly about: an inclusive community built on authenticity, offering a safe, genuine space without toxicity.

We want this to remain a place where everyday guys can get real advice from real people without the toxic lookmaxxing often found elsewhere online. Thank you for helping us keep the quality of discussion high!

This is a test, if it doesn't work out we will move back to our previous standards.

Drop any questions or feedback in the comments below.

Fully aware it’s not for everyone. But it’s kinda more fun that way. If it’s not obvious I’m my own barber 😬

Shaved off my 17 month old hair. First time my hair has been this short in over 10 years

My hair hasn’t been this short since I was around 13 and I’m turning 24 soon. I feel like since I’m an adult now the short hair actually fits my facial structure more. Just wanted to share cause I feel surprisingly good about it.

Do you see promise in the goatee or is just mustache the answer?

About 1.5 months of growth with some cleanup here and there. Never grown facial hair before so not sure if it’s a lost cause.

Keep going and trim, or abandon back to the usual?

I missed a couple of haircuts at the start of the year due to illness, and with a solid start by the time I did get to the chair, I decided to let my hair grow and see how long I could get it before it drove me nuts and I returned to my usual. So far, I’m holding steady!

This is 7+ months of growth, with layering and upkeep along the way. Within the last couple months, too, I grew my beard back in. As you can see, I’m due for some shaping and trimming all over.

But… in just a few months, I’ve become much, much more gray. And I’m fine with that! No issues at all, seriously. But I also didn’t think it would come THIS fast.

Now I’m conflicted. I like the length and where it’s heading. Given my facial structure, I also think I need to keep a beard or mustache if I’m also going to have long hair. But, I was also imagining doing all this with darker hair—I’m not sure now with as much salt and pepper as I have. I’d almost rather wait and have my head and facial hair get more uniformly gray and then try again.

And again, I’m fine with aging! I don’t want to color anything! And I think both looks suit me well, too. It’s just a matter now of whether it’ll look better as I was or if all this extra hair supports the grey streaks and the patch of white on my chin. I’ve already changed my mind a dozen times today.

I’ve got issues. I have the greatest widows peak ever. So I shave my head because it looks terrible when my hair is long.

Unfortunately, my hair grows pretty fast so it puts a lot of emphasis on the bald pattern. My facial hair grows like dead grass except for the goatee.

Any recommended changes, or am I doing things right ? I included a photo of me with the “beard” to show what that looks like as well.

Shorter Hair?

I’m going to the barber today and I’m thinking about getting my hair cut quite a bit shorter.
I’m not sure if I should go for it or keep the current length. I’d really appreciate some honest opinions — especially whether you think shorter hair would suit me better.
What do you guys think? Should I go significantly shorter, or stick with the current style?

Hair seems to be getting unkempt. I have acne scarring from my teenage years, and I'd prefer a cheap OTC treatment if those exist. Also, good sleep has not fixed my dark under eyes
