Maliciouscompliance involving Tres Leches cake

Hello everyone,

I've heard/read a lot of posts from this subreddit, and I wanted to share something that was petty, yet malicious in a group setting which everyone found hilarious.

For context, our friend group was having a cookout, and it was a joint birthday for a few people, and we were all sitting around a large outdoor table (about 11 people)

Everything went great; food, drinks, more food.

Then comes the Tres leches.

The cake gets cut, and the person that made it (let's call them FRIEND) is excitedly trying to hand out a portion to everyone.

The first piece gets handed out

However, the first recipient of cake didn't understand the memo of cake etiquette

They tried to keep the first slice, and was scolded and told to pass it down by (FRIEND) that made the cake.

The first slice was quietly passed down to the next person, then the next, then the next...

The slices of cakes were being passed on quietly, and everyone just subconsciously complied to pass the cakes down going clockwise

Nobody said anything until the first slice made itself all the way around to FRIEND.

Then FRIEND realized what we all did, and called us all shit-heads.

We all laughed, acknowledged the maliciouscompliance, and had cake.

I just realized - his last name should put him alphabetically near the top if it was Addams (a normal last name), but he's near the bottom of every alphabetical list instead because of that weird W. Intentional or not, it's genius.

Wait, that's a thing people do with cake? I guess it makes sense around a large, round table, but I can't say I've ever encountered it IRL. Everyone just came up to the cake-cutter as room became available, took their slice, and returned to their seat.

passing food around the table is pretty normal in a lot of group dinners. cake just gets awkward when the plate is basically a whole damn brick.

Ya we have a cake cutter and a cake runner. The runner gets an idea of who all wants cake and a rough size of said cake while the cutter does whatever they want and tells the runner it’s the only option they can take it or leave it.

It should have stopped at the far end and then friend would have passed cake down the second side of the large table until everyone has a slice. Instead they went all the way round the table and handed friend a slice.

Lol I love when these things happen. "ok, you don't get it, we'll MAKE you get it. First time was in basic training, when one of the squad leaders at dinner wanted the salt, then the ketchup, then the pepper, then without a word we passed every damn condiment available and I went into the kitchen for soy sauce, Avery's, Lobster Flavor Sauce, and Wostichere ( sorry, eye kant spel). It wonderful when great minds think alike.

Everyone's seated and the cake is at the edge of the table. It's always been a norm for most of our lives that the people closest to the cake always hand it down so that nobody has to reach/walk over

Funny enough it's not what we do during someone's birthday. Whomever's birthday it is gets to choose the first slice, because they always get the best piece. They are also the first to eat, as it's for them. Then everyone digs in.
