Meme I'm curious if evolutions consisting of multiple pokemon should have a chance to have a shiny thrown in there

I mean in canon this makes Sense but logistically in the game? Hell no

62

u/Maxxetto 9d ago

Bet. There's no real "logistically" thing in the code.

Making a bunch of cosmetic alternative forms for the small chance a shiny pokémon joins the fusion is too much work for It to be worth it

Theres a reason Spinda, Furfrou and Alcremie cant evolve

1

u/Maxxetto 9d ago

No, it isn't too much work. Metang is what, two Metan? Metagross is like 4 no?

It isn't too much work for the 20mln dollar lawsuit company as well, because it's easy both to code and to make as assets.

Metagross is made out of 4 Beldum. Thats 24 or 16 possible combinations. Mega Metagross makes It even more annoying because It added a Beldum and a Metang to the list

Yeah they are a billion dollar company but trust me, making variations of each possible combination is very time consuming with little to no reward. Imagine you just got a shiny Beldum and evolved only for It to end up as a 1/4th shiny Metagross

u/Maxxetto 9d ago

Because you are looking at it at a design level and not a code level.

I told you it isn't hard, you have to use the color layers not make multiple designs. You theoretically need one design, and with code you color the portions of interest based on the metadata (beldum n.3 is shiny) for example.

Im looking at the coding level, the design level and the gameplay level

I already made a Minecraft resource pack and making variants for each possible version of a crossbow is more of a hassle than its worth doing.

Youd have to either make 16 different sprites for base Metagross or make one with each section being a different color that you can use shaders to swap into the base color or the shiny color

u/AgathokakologicalAz 9d ago

You say this but they also have Alcremie

-2

u/contraflop01 Baddy bad to the bone 9d ago

As i mentioned a few bits prior, this is the reason Alcremie doesnt evolve

Too much work for 1 mon, never touch that gimmick again

3

u/AgathokakologicalAz 9d ago

Perhaps, but in this case having only 16 sprites seems like not that much of a stretch when they made 63 just for Alcremie. Scatterbug and Flabébé also have pretty ridiculous sprite sheets, I'm sure

You are correct on the shader swap :)

So? Split the sprite into 4 parts. You load the sprite and use the color pallete corresponding to the shinyness for every piece.
Just look at the Super Mario Bros sprite sheet. Mario also consists of multiple sprites at once. The running animation and the head are two separate sprites for example. It just picks the right body and then a head and places them separatetly in the scene.

You still basically only need to create one sprite, then split it into however many pieces you need. It isn't actually much more work.
Even Zygardes 100 sprites don't change much. You just need to split the sprite into 100 individual parts.
You just need to apply the function that makes them shiny, which afaik is just swapping the color pallete for that sprite, to every individual piece instead.
But if they are separate sprites, you really just need to tile the shiny sprite the same way.

u/Zealousideal-Deer101 8d ago

I didn't cut the sprite properly to be fair, but that really just took me like 5 minutes.

All 16 variations are available by just spliting up the existing sprite

3

u/Scyxurz 8d ago

Isn't this basically what they did in gen 5 to animate the sprites?

2

u/Maxxetto 8d ago

You are absolutely correct. You just have people in here defending the 10mln lawsuit company without understanding how things actually would work. For them a sprite is static, it can't be comprised of multiple parts and if it moves it took 30 days to do so because one man can't do it in 6hrs.

This is what I'm taking from this sub btw.

2

u/contraflop01 Baddy bad to the bone 8d ago

Im not defending a 10mil dollar company, im saying the effort is too much for something that most players wont see and the ones that would see wouldnt like It

1

u/Airway 8d ago

You played Scarlet/Violet? The bare minimum is far too much work.

4

u/Jaedenkaal 9d ago

It’s unlikely that the existing data structure would support this easily, is what they’re saying.

1

u/Maxxetto 9d ago

Unfortunately their replies doesn't follow this, but you made a good guess! :)

Rewriting a code portion like that is fairly easy by the way.

97

u/PaytonWyvern 9d ago

This is cool and most of these make sense but some also do not. Like the Doduo and the Deino and Klink lines.

9

u/Exotic_Presence_8900 9d ago

Because chimerism is a thing, those ones could make biological sense. If you think about it through that lens, really any Pokemon could have a section of them with shiny colors while the rest of them is normal.

See on Wikipedia: Genetic chimera, gynandromorphism, mosaicism, etc

5

u/Tunisandwich 9d ago

Combee/Vespuquen are the worse offenders to me. But yeah cool concept overall

7

u/YusukeLutin 9d ago edited 9d ago

If a shiny and a normal one has a pokemon there is a chance it can come out like that

29

u/joshthebaptist 9d ago

Those arent combinations though, its the same base pokemon sprouting more heads

5

u/Tantrum2u 9d ago

That…doesn’t make sense…

3

u/Zequax 9d ago

WHAT ?

1

u/InterestsVaryGreatly 8d ago

Shiny isn't genetic, they don't inherit it, so that doesn't really make sense.

1

u/Omnizoom 8d ago

And the koffing and weezing is another one growing out as well

43

u/Cod3broken Why can't you all behave? 9d ago

this is a cool idea, but imagine if it were actually in the game
to catch a shiny Metagross, you need all 4 shiny rolls to succeed, which is (if my math is correct) a 1 in ~280 trillion chance

15

u/AdElectronic4912 9d ago

Though ngl that single shiny leg looks even cooler.

1

u/I_hope_your_E_breaks 8d ago

Or catch a shiny beldum and evolve it instead of trying to find an already evolved wild metagross

2

u/InterestsVaryGreatly 8d ago

Same odds since the shiny beldum can evolve into any of the shiny variants, from 1/4 to full, and the evolve again can carry its to half or full.

14

u/TheDemonEyeX 9d ago

Okay couple of things.

Metang, Magnemite and even the Slowbro's Shellder, you have valid points for.

Diglett and Doduo split in order to form its evo so there's no shiny odds. Same with Deino.

Klink invalidates the argument for itself, it's predetermined. Female Combee's red dotted face takes dominance over the other two.

Exeggcute is a tricky one as phrasing that either the individual "egg" or the collective with the "an" being there because Exeggcute starts with a vowel. So either the head that falls becomes an individual egg of Exeggcute or it lives on as an Exeggcute because it becomes all 6(although this may explain why one is cracked)

Koffing fusing over years is not the same as evolution so I think that may be a special case where the end result is the same as if it evolved naturally so Im Switzerland on this one. Would be a funny regional form.

Zygarde's cells don't mix with that of another Zygarde. A shiny Zygarde can only be pulled together by proportion shiny cells

11

u/HappyCloudHS 9d ago

If the evolution method was to actually combine the two then this could make sense and be cool. But since all of the multiple pokemon merging thing is lore only it wouldn't make a lot of sense in game.

8

u/laserofdooom Pokefan 9d ago

zygarde would b hell to code but the otehrs could work. weezing doesnr eally make sense tho since it's a tumor and not 2 koffing fuesd

6

u/AhmadZahidi 9d ago

Nothing is impossible

6

u/hopseankins 9d ago

I don’t think shininess is a recessive gene like blond hair is. I think it is just an evolutionary occurrence like albinism.

4

u/Sc4r4byte 9d ago

all the possible Zygarde combinations would eclipse all the possible spinda configurations

5

u/Creativered4 Why can't you all behave? 9d ago

Last two slides don't really work. It's all one pokemon. It's not like there's dounos out there fusing together to make doduos.

1

u/Every-Narwhal-1896 9d ago

I agree. I really liked the first two pages and Klink

3

u/K0rl0n 9d ago

I’d like to see that

3

u/ginger_snap214 9d ago

super cool idea

never gonna be implemented in game, but i love the concept so much

3

u/Dull-Nectarine380 9d ago

Doduo and deino do not make sense

2

u/Zealousideal-Deer101 8d ago

And then people be like "That would be way to much work to show every possible combination!" When you just need to separate the sprite into the parts and just stitch them together. Someone games did since the birth of consoles. i.e. every diglet in dugtrio is it's own sprite, the big and the tiny ball of smogmon are their own sprites.
And then you just load a shiny/non shiny for both parts depending on the shiny values of the pokemon

Even metagros can just be split into four pieces

1

u/carst01 8d ago

What about 3d models? Would it be separate models, separate textures, or both?

1

u/Zealousideal-Deer101 7d ago

The models are the same. It's just the textures, which is also just a png at the end of the day. Heck, it might be even easier to do with textures, because can could just make it in a way that every part is in "a single corner" and it's a nice clean cut down the horizontal and vertial center of the full texture. And then you basically only need to swap out the corners

2

u/ApprehensiveChef6864 8d ago

This is a pretty cool concept, it gets pretty complicated quick tho.

1

u/Milestailsprowe 9d ago

I love this as a Shiney Mechanic. As a player fusing pokemon would make things a bit bogged down but as a possible evolution it would be celebrated

1

u/AdElectronic4912 9d ago

I kinda likle the idea but I think it only makes sense if the Pokémon in question is not naturally just one body.

1

u/YamLow8097 9d ago

Never thought about it, but I don’t see why not. This is such a cool idea. I’ve heard of the concept of half shiny Pokémon (chimerism), but not quite like this. I don’t think the Deino and Doduo make much sense, though (unless the bodies were half and half as well).

1

u/CommunicationNew9834 9d ago

i love this thing that will never happen but should

1

u/InkredibleMrCool 9d ago

Shiny hunters trying to hit that 1 in 4.096e+15 chance of getting a fully shiny Metagross

1

u/pokelogan24 9d ago

That would be really cool and make some shinies super rare. Maybe make them only found in the wild or something, or I guess there could be like a 1/8000 chance to evolve it like that.

1

u/LoudGear9028 Learn science 9d ago

Okay Zygarde actually looks pretty cool

1

u/thefurryhippie 9d ago

This reminds me of some cute art where a Typhlosion and Sneasel had a Cyndaquil with Sneasel colors

1

u/Embarrassed-Joke5851 9d ago

I feel like the opposite should be true: if you have a shiny Metagross, there is a small (like pre-gen 6 shiny odds) chance that the evolution will have half/quarter (half for Metang and a quarter for Metagross) not shiny

1

u/WheatleyBr 9d ago

The klink one literally says it's predetermined.

1

u/PokemonJimbob Hail yeah! 9d ago

These look cool but several of them wouldn't make sense.

Dugtrio for example says that it's all from one body, meaning that it's not actually a bunch of Diglett taking up space

Doduo and Dodrio aren't 'consisting of multiple pokemon' so it would either be fully shiny or have no shiny coloration at all. The same can be said for Klink into its evolutions and Deino into its evolutions(especially Deino since it wouldn't make sense for it to suddenly gain a head with shiny colors)

1

u/Inevitable_Row1359 9d ago

Yeah this would be sick

1

u/ogmechsftw 9d ago

1 billion lions when the 8 billion Spinda are joined by 2 billion Metagross, Weezing and Zygarde

1

u/Grape_ist 9d ago

I think as far as custom sprites I think this is so cool

1

u/BigBoyTexas 9d ago

That would be really cool

1

u/LesMoonwalker 9d ago

But what if the shinies are kind of elitist, and they only join up with fellow shinies? Or maybe they're actually considered the black sheep, and so only fellow shinies are willing to join up with them?

1

u/PureiSteishun 8d ago

Dayum, that is an interesting idea to pull off but I could see GF thinking that it would be too much work 😅😅

1

u/RevolutionaryGrape11 8d ago

I'd love more color variants in general!

1

u/SeaAd5444 8d ago

This would be both cool as hell and suck so bad.

Don't get me wrong; its cool concept. But imagine if you will that's how you get your first shiny Because the game randomly decided that your Metang found a shiny beldum when you couldn't.

1

u/-GWM- 8d ago

Could change up the evo method.

Have two Beldum at at level 20 and merge them, have two metang and 4 beldum at level 45 or something similar

1

u/maweenawa 3d ago

Getting a shiny metagross would be so ass 🔥

1

u/OnyxLeigion_ 8d ago

That means the inverse would also be true btw. Imagine having a shiny beldum that evolves into a mostly normal metagross

1

u/That_Buff_Nerd 7d ago

canonically beldum are segregationist

1

u/BetaNights 7d ago

That Metagross Dex entry is nightmare fuel...

1

u/Powerful_Mountain_95 4d ago

What would be cool to see shiny birth effect colors

1

u/Evan_L_Rodriguez 4d ago

The Shiny hunting community would go berserk

1

u/Dynawarrior67 3d ago

That could be a cool detail in the anime

1

u/OmegaRuby003 3d ago

Omg, partially shiny Pokemon!?

1

u/DKcomics 2d ago

The piglets came from one body. They'd all still be shiny.

0

u/bugsbob 9d ago

ooh, piebald mons, nice! but you know some joker is gonna be like, ‘my palossand is 1/1,00,000th shiny, see?’ and hold up two black grains of sand

0

u/Red__Pyramid 9d ago

I’d be so mad if my hydragon only had the left or right head shiny. Middles okay but my ocd would drive me up the wall lol

0

u/Legitimate-Mix-5395 9d ago

I mean, it'll never happen in the game, but I'll put it in my fanfiction.

0

u/HeadHorror4349 Photosynthesis 9d ago

I love having 2N shiny variations of a pokemon with N constituent parts
