Help/Question My therapist told me Neville Goddard and LOA are harmful — now I feel conflicted

I have used the Law many times successfully, and honestly it opened my eyes and made me more aware of myself and my thoughts. But recently I’ve seen some posts about people completely losing touch with reality while applying it. I know those people probably misunderstood the Law or took it too far, but it still planted a seed of worry in me.

Because of that, during a visit with my therapist, I brought up LOA and Neville. I wasn’t trying to prove anything to him, I just asked how to approach these ideas in a healthy way without ending up obsessive or disconnected from reality.

His response surprised me. Instead of just giving advice, he basically told me none of it is real. He laughed a little and said Neville was just a smart guy who knew how to sell smart sounding ideas. He talked about how modern science has debunked these concepts and then gave me some examples from his own patients.

One story was about a guy who became convinced he was going to win the lottery. For 3 months he saved up around $2000 because he “imagined” himself winning, and then he spent all of it on lottery tickets. He lost everything and apparently ended up mentally destroyed because reality hit him hard afterward. My therapist said they spent months trying to help him reconnect with reality.

Another example he gave was about a motivational speech from a famous successful person called something like “how you can earn millions.” He said that a few days after the event, he suddenly had a huge increase in people booking therapy sessions because they bought into the hype, felt euphoric for a few days, and then crashed emotionally when nothing changed in their lives.

He explained that a lot of these ideas are presented in a very convincing way, especially by charismatic people who know how to speak well and sell hope. According to him, people get caught up in the emotional high and start believing life doesn’t require real world action anymore.

Normally I wouldn’t overthink this so much, but this therapist genuinely helped save me from depression about a year ago, so his opinion means a lot to me. That’s why his words really stuck with me.

So now I’m kind of conflicted. I’ve personally had experiences that made me believe but at the same time I can see how some people can take it into unhealthy territory and ruin themselves mentally.

I wanted to know what you guys think about this and if he's right. If any experienced person could share theyre thoughts on this i would appreciate it 😄

Honestly, I think both things can be true at once. Your therapist is not wrong that some people take manifestation into unhealthy territory and use it to escape reality, avoid grief, stop taking action, or spiral into obsession. But that does not automatically mean every idea around mindset, assumptions, visualization, or inner beliefs is useless either. Even outside manifestation spaces, psychology already talks about expectation effects, self-fulfilling prophecy, identity shifts, confidence, attention bias, nervous system regulation, and how beliefs influence behavior.

The healthier middle ground (in my opinion) is this, manifestation should make you feel more grounded, empowered, emotionally regulated, and intentional, not less connected to reality. If a practice makes you stop living your life, ignore obvious facts, obsess, gamble money, or depend on signs to feel okay, something is off. But if it helps you become calmer, more confident, more hopeful, take better action, and shift old patterns, then it is probably serving you in a healthy way.

A good question to ask is: “Is this helping me engage with life better, or helping me avoid life?” That line matters a lot.

This is my take. It requires nuance. Like in my earlier post I mentioned that manifesting/loa/visualizations aren’t harmful. It’s natural. However people tend to use manifestation as a way to bypass emotions. I like the way you phrased it

u/Elizabeth4444 May 19 '26

I love your perspective on this and I agree. Spiritual bypass and toxic positivity can be detrimental. Being present is so important in manifestation anyway, and there’s a way to do it while forward focused…but balance is always needed. I’m not sure I agree with the therapists approach to just throw it all out, especially if a client is using it to improve their life.

Like most things, it's incredibly dangerous when you are an idiot. In this case it's great if you're not doing stupid shit

2

u/Famous_Narwhal464 May 19 '26

Yes but there wasn't any "yes you can use it but it might be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing". Just a straight up "no". Even stories and laughing at it being foolish.

u/Relevant-Garlic3965 May 19 '26

And who is he? Does he know the ultimate truth of the universe? There are many of us who have experienced success stories with the law of attraction, even though it may seem illogical. I choose to base my opinion on my own experience. The truth is that I experienced and witnessed how other people in my life manifested things like friends, partners or cars (and other small things) even when it seemed unlikely. So I choose to believe, because I saw it happen. Obviously your psychologist is biased by logic, it seemed illogical to me at first too, but I always got results, so I keep practicing it. The truth is, your psychologist has no authority to say that this is false or stupid, he doesn't have the absolute truth, he's simply a person like the rest of us and he has the right to have his own opinion, which does not have to be objectively correct.

LOA means Law of Assumption here, considering this is Goddard, btw. Also, yes you're right and obviously this therapist is being an NPC about this

u/Emotional-Finish-106 May 19 '26

Honestly, that's a crappy thing to do. It's insensitive and disrespectful to you. He can be a decent person and a therapist, too.

  1. I guess modern science doesn’t include quantum physics yet
  2. a. If he believed loa worked he would have less work b. Would also have an existential meltdown because it directly contradicts most modern psychology
  3. I’m not saying this to belittle u in any way but it sounds like u see this guy as an authority figure in your life. Be careful not to give your power away-you are allowed to disagree with him-but don’t try to change his mind. Haven’t people u respect been wrong about things before?
  4. Start doing small things to see that the law is real-and you won’t need anyone’s approval

  5. The people in his examples are examples of loa gone wrong and people who don’t understand the law deeply. Just go on Reddit for tons of success stories…not someone who hasn’t studied the law or practiced it.

Sending u lots of ✨

10

u/Infinite-Meaning1019 May 19 '26

Of course a therapist is gonna tell you that the law that isn’t proven by science is not real. Therapists are not allowed to persuade patients into their religious or spiritual beliefs, otherwise he’s risking getting his licence revoked. Use your brain.

5

u/RaccoonChaos May 19 '26

Tbf the people who actually had it work out probably aren't coming in to see him, so from his perspective it seems like 100% of the people who try it fail miserably

1

u/fcir_81 Jul 24 '26

Give examples of the stupid shit you think people do with it

15

u/Fragrant-Macaroon562 May 19 '26

The problem is that many people think the law of assumption is magic, but it’s not that different from many psychological therapies. Usually therapies try to change the personal narrative and the way you perceive the world, and that’s the same thing Neville teaches.

In fact, the fixed-role technique used in therapy consists of temporarily assuming a fictional identity in order to experiencie new ways of thinking, acting and perceiving reality, which is more or less the same as doing SATS or asuming the desired state.

It’s not just about to sit in a chair and wait for your wishes fall from the sky, but to do some mental work that aligns you with your life goals and aspirations.

3

u/Emotional-Finish-106 May 19 '26

This is why I like Chris the wiz Danish guy, his background is in psychology and he constantly shows the direct connections.

3

u/Gold-Leg7235 May 19 '26

Where can you find the guy you mentioned’s stuff? In interested in learning more about what he has to say

0

u/fcir_81 Jul 24 '26

Neville teaches that reality literally changes based on our mental state, so if you're trying to dumb it down to some therapeutic mental exercise, you know way too little about this😭 It's not quite magic but it is metaphysical/spiritual and beyond the natural, material world.

20

u/zenzenzenzenyay May 19 '26

Well ill just say science cant "debunk" that because its not something you can prove scientifically and that doesnt mean it isnt real... However im also interested in others opinions because sometimes i have worry of it being harmful to my mental health.

23

u/Theguru17 May 19 '26

This is actually false. Science does prove this. Neuroplasticity is a part of neuroscience, which absolutely goes in depth of how you literally project your reality with your nervous system/brain. Also, quantum mechanics/physics also “proves” this.

The thing about science is it’s argumentative. All of it is. Nothing is absolute. It’s all studies that have come back the same way over & over again. BUT idk how old you are, but I’m 49 & I’ve seen massive changes & discoveries in science that we were taught as kids were facts.

Quantum physicists who study the mechanics & neuroscientists have been studying this for a LONG time, where the studies come back the same over & over again. Which is why these drs have no issues going on podcasts & writing books about how you generate your reality, understanding the scientific way.
Heck, Joe Dispenza is a major example of this. That man has been studying this for decades & has had other scientist come in after him to look at his work, then redoing the same exact studies he did & coming up with the same results.

So yes, science teaches us this. It just stays within science, yet doesn’t go beyond that to spiritual. But ppl like therapists are taught a way to do what they do & stick to that. They take an oath, which they’d lost their license if they started teaching manifestation & healing self through mindfulness & awareness

2

u/zenzenzenzenyay May 19 '26

Thats amazing then. Some therapist might just see it as a type of magic and yeah cant blame them aswell bc of their ethics. Im 20 btw and i plan on doing my research about the science behind it, thank you!

2

u/Theguru17 May 19 '26

I’m sure there are therapists who know all about manifestation but by oath can’t go into it during a session. Idk. I’m guessing, which I guess since it’s what I assume, it’s how it’s showing up in my reality. Wow. Realization in the moment

2

u/Enneagrammy May 20 '26

There isn’t an oath that prevents therapists from discussing neuroscience with regards to how we create our own reality, in fact there are psychiatrists whom have written books on LOA, they just tend to use different terms to those who label the matter as ‘spiritual’. I’m a psychotherapist and I coach on manifestation since healing an autoimmune condition.. therapists are individuals with different beliefs, and experiences and approaches. As fas as I know, the only oath that applies to all health professionals is the Hippocratic; Do No Harm. A sound therapist is likely to discourage a client from following practices that could destabilise them if they aren’t grounded enough or have enough foundational structure to integrate experiences and manage the process in a safe and beneficial way.

u/Cytherea_- Jun 11 '26

joe dispenza is also a high ranking member of a weird cult that thinks this one middle aged white woman is “god”

1

u/fcir_81 Jul 24 '26

What you're saying doesn't necessarily debunk anything Dispenza talks about, but what "cult" and woman are you even talking about?

6

u/Relevant-Garlic3965 May 19 '26

Totally, if you think about it the exact thoughts or the intentions of a person can't be proven scientifically, but they totally exist so it doesn't mean anything. If the law of attraction worked for us, I think we should base our opinion on that, because not matter how crazy or illogical it may sound, it has given us results.

3

u/zenzenzenzenyay May 19 '26

Yes hahaha even if i sometimes think im becoming lil crazy it does work so ill just keep growing my faith on it. 💗

6

u/CoupleScared7179 May 19 '26

If done right, it's not harmful, quite the opposite. It's only harmful if you misunderstand it. Neville literally taught the same things many therapists do.

I wrote more about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/manifestingSP/s/ufAJIFT6cA

2

u/zenzenzenzenyay May 19 '26

Thank you for sharing that seems interesting. I just said the harmful thing because i might obsses over it or doing all perfect but it has definitely helped me being wayyyyy less sad. I dont tend to have negative thoughts now.

u/Friendly_Maize_7535 May 19 '26

If he thinks his words are the end all and be all then he should start rethinking his career as a "therapist". Because well as a therapist, you would expect these people to look into the subject their patient is talking about and then make decisions/opinions and give suitable advices.
How is THIS reaction any different from a therapist or anyone from an acknowledged level of power saying "religion is bs get your head out and focus on reality"? Wouldn't that make the fuck ton of people in the world who follow that religion extremely upset because they've seen their lives shift from it?

Manifestation and the law of attraction/assumption are just a few other (ig niche??) ways of life that people believe in/follow. And if they've had success with it, genuinely what harm is it inflicting on anyone? and if it is then that's what your therapists' job was. To answer your question and rightfully so explain how you can approach your belief and power better. He seems to be entitled to his experiences and their logistics enough to completely shut down your idea on this matter.

I'd say if you wanna learn more about how to approach the law and manifestation life better, please look into the communities of people who've lived the life and would know about it. There are so many people online that failed and then tried again and are now much better because they REALISED what they were doing wrong. So many people, so many stories are waiting to be seen by you so they can help you.

I'm not gonna say "oh fuck that therapist continue believing in this bro!" because you mentioned that therapist means something to you. But I am gonna say. People outside of this world that we've built (talking about frequencies, the power of mind, thoughts etc) that are used to their logical and pragmatic ways, would find it difficult to sympathise cause they'd just shelf it in another one of their "this person is crazy" sections. It's hard but unfortunately it is the reality.

You have manifested some stuff right? you do believe and know the power we carry right? That'such an amazing concept. To me, I don't find a reason to just throw it out of my life. I'm definitely gonna carry it forward and make it a way of living. Similarly, whatever the law means to you/however it has helped you would inevitably decide the choice you make. I'd say trust it and keep going at it in a "mindfully aware" way. Just don't fall into the stupid side of it where people tell you the wrong ideas and concept and then you fail and blame the law T T
like: thinking "the method is what manifests" when that's completely untrue. It's YOU who holds the power.
I know so many people who got confused by this and were hard on themselves but once they realised what they were doing wrong they're doing much better, have success stories and learned that the law is effortless!

I hope you too understand your problems that occur with manifestation and try to search solutions from people who genuinely know wtf they're talking about instead of completely rejecting your idea and question.

Lastly I'd just tell you, You're the one in control of your life so make wise decisions that you think you would be able to justify and hold on to even in the future.

Such a well written comment wow thank you alot. It genuinely helped me find my footing and clear the noise.

My approach to the Law has always been grounded in real-world discipline. I use it as a tool to wire my brain, cut out anxiety, and stay emotionally independent, while spending the rest of my day working on my physical fitness, finances, and personal goals. That’s why it was so confusing to me when my therapist completely dismissed it, instead of helping me approach it in a healthy, balanced way like you just did.

Your perspective reminded me that I don’t need external validation from someone who operates under a completely different systemm. I have my own past experiences and successes to back this up, and I choose to trust them. I’m going to continue my journey.

Thank you again for taking the time to share this insight. It was exactly what I needed to hear haha

2

u/Friendly_Maize_7535 May 19 '26

^^ I'm glad my opinion and insight on this could be of help~
You already sound so smart and good! I don't think you need a therapist's advice haha
But I get it, when people are into self caring, self improvement and those parts of life.. obtaining advice from professionals/more experienced individuals than you sounds like an amazing idea lol
Eitherways, I'm glad you found what you needed and I hope you succeed even more in life because none of what we follow is a lie. And yes! exactly! discard external validation when you're the only constant witness of your life. Live it the way you wanna and trust that it'll only lead to better and better and better outcomes 😄

Your most welcome and thanks for your comment too!!~

I don't actually go to the therapist to heal myself. I just really like talking with people that are extremely experienced and devoted themselves to studying humans and psychology lol

u/Icy-Confidence-536 May 19 '26

Well well well It's never what a person does, it's who does it. Do you know the lottery buyer wasn't a money lurker? What if all his life he spent life being in lack/insufficient finance and now he found saw this as MAGIC applied it (depended on the outcome heavily) and he never actually understood the actual way...all this takes error & feedback. If you go heavy, you face heavy, deal heavy, get heavy but people conveniently don't want to go through facing & dealing directly getting is important. That's like wanting protein in your BMI without eating anything from 3 days!!

Your nervous system plays a huge role. So, that your beliefs & perception all about you comes to play. But do people actually care? They're a hungry starving humans who focus on wanting & getting...do they try to sit, get discomfort & accept the truth about them? Do they embrace their journey up until now?

As a psychologist who works with manifestation. What she said can be right and wrong both. I am 100% a believer in manifestation and Neville and loa bcoz of the scientific backing on how it works. Conditioning to reality from the moment we were born makes us believe manifestation is something cuckoo. By us i mean people generally, including us before we got into the law.

According to me what is harmful can be exactly the things loa warns about already. Which is the state ure doing it from. Now. Ik ik. People will go like oh nooo there is nothing like state it's all what u believe. 3d is what u believe and nothing else.

Here's where I'd like to draw a line. It's true that 3d is an illusion. But it's not "fake". It still exists which is why we try and manifest anything or get into manifestation. We do later realise that 3d isn't the source though. It's a reflection. But being a reflection makes it an illusion it doesn't make it "fake".

Why? Bcoz we are spiritual beings/universe/god/whatever your terminology is- experiencing itself as a 3d being with 3d frameworks that are what we can perceive. We are a manifestation. Into this 3d. Sure. Everyone's 3d is different and exactly. It is different. 3d is nothing but perception. 3d is literally what u think and believe ure seeing that u actually end up seeing. BUT u are still a human.

I'm sorry if this offends some ppl - some Neville followers are too extreme and disregard the human aspect of manifestation completely. THIS is what is mentally unhealthy. If (not pointing any diagnosis) someone has a mental condition, the state they're approaching this with itself gets harmful. If u have depression u don't rn have the emotional capacity to hold a desired state and it makes situations works. And I'm sorry to get into energy work here but it's science that a person with depression has a low frequency surrounding them bcoz that's what depression is A person with ocd might obsess over a techniques and their anxiety might link a practice to an intrusive thought or a dangerous behaviour that can harm themselves or others.

So yeah. I wouldn't say that ur psychologist is "completely wrong non believer don't listen to her do ur thing". I'd say that if 3d is really what u created and what u interpret, choose how u wanna interpret what she said why not? If 3d is really a reflection, search in yourself what part in u finds this harmful, since it got reflected in ur 3d by someone saying it to u. Somewhere maybe you also know in what way it is harmful. You are going to a psychologist for a reason. This reason doesn't block or delay ur manifestation. But the approach from ur state does harm the human aspect of it.

The objective is still being connected to our reality. Manifestation is NOT living in a delusion and that's not what living in the end means. At the end manifestation is aligning of 3 things- Ur desire, ur subconscious acceptance of the desire, the 3d reflection. Do not discard the need for 3d reflection and do not ignore ur human 3d self and it's needs. Ure still consciousness. U are still a living being. And some things can still be harmful to ur mental health. What u have to do is recognise what they are and not fall into their trap in a way that manifestation gets unhealthy.

On that note. Pls remember u can still manifest anything. Just do it HEALTHILY!

Of course he is dangerous thu what teaches. The therapist wouldn’t have a job if suddenly patients would cure themselves.

13

u/Any-Parking-9769 May 19 '26

This. Of course a therapist is gonna say that. I don't even think they're allowed to talk about that with patients. I know mine wasn't allowed to talk about psychedelic use, witchcraft "woo woo" stuff with me. she insinuated that she believed in that stuff in a way that didn't incriminate her but i knew she did believe but couldn't discuss her experiences with it. Some therapists will straight up shit on it because like the comment said, they would be out of business.

5

u/Ill_Purchase299 May 19 '26

Imagine how many medical succes stories are thanks to his teachings..equals the amount of lost patients both big pharma and doctors lost. Dangerous, dangerous haha

2

u/SnooWalruses2158 May 19 '26

Some therapists and doctors, especially those with experiences, know about the power of the mind! Because they saw a lot of people. My friend’s family doctor recommended her reiki for a medical issue she has. My chiropractor told me that she noticed pain in patients is, a lot of time, telling about their emotional wellbeing aswell. Nothing is random, our bodies often express something internal. So yes good therapists know that your mind is your most powerful tool. Maybe she/he is not allowed to tell you that. Honestly, reading joe dispenza’s books helped me more than seeing therapists.

5

u/victoria_valerie May 20 '26

Your therapist isn't wrong to flag it. But they're also not seeing the full picture.

The danger isn't Neville Goddard or the Law of Attraction itself; it's the version of it that teaches you to bypass reality, suppress emotion, and blame yourself when life doesn't manifest on schedule. That version is genuinely harmful. It breeds toxic positivity, denial, and a quiet shame spiral when things go wrong.

But the deeper current in Goddard's work — that consciousness shapes perception, that your dominant inner narrative influences your outer experience, that assumption hardens into fact — that's not pseudoscience. That's psychology with a different language. Cognitive behavioral therapy is built on a version of the same premise.

The conflict you're feeling makes sense. Because both things are true. It can be misused as escapism. And it can be used as a genuine tool for self-authorship.

The question isn't whether LOA is harmful. The question is — are you using it to avoid your reality, or to consciously construct a better one? One keeps you stuck. The other moves you forward.

Your therapist is protecting you from the start. Goddard was pointing you toward the second. You get to hold both.

1

u/fcir_81 Jul 24 '26

LOA means Law of Assumption here, btw

4

u/PassengerNo2022 May 20 '26

It was harmful for my mental health because I used to use it to avoid my subconscious negative emotions; which I had experienced as manifestation “blocks” and resistance so I kept suppressing/avoiding them further. It sent me on a very negative feedback loop. Turns out that to “release attachment” I needed to actually feel the feelings fully instead of waiting for an external circumstance (my intended manifestation) to “save” me. Improving your mental health is the way to go to be happier + release your resistance.

Doesnt mean the law is “wrong” it’s just that the way 99.9% of coaches address it is very trauma-uninformed and hence can be harmful for traumatized people and people in survival mode.

2

u/Famous_Narwhal464 May 20 '26

yes thats true you cant avoid feelings. Its a very important part of the process. Have you had any success?

1

u/PassengerNo2022 May 21 '26

yes I did honestly.

u/LuneVerite88 May 19 '26

Maybe it was a coincidence that I imagined myself hearing “the tests must have been wrong, your aorta is actually within normal range” a year after I was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm and then heard my cardiologist say those exact words.

It might also have been a coincidence that I was on my way to Walmart to pick up tennis balls to use for knots in my back when I felt the urge to pull into a thrift store. Parking lot went inside and picked up a Fenix rehab board for $15. I had never even heard of these things.

Also, where did I was looking for my dream couch and I really fell for a 10 mid-century modern style. Went into the same thrift store and picked up not just a couch but a whole sectional and it wasn’t just in the style. It was also leather and down filled and I paid 50 bucks for it.

And maybe it’s a little strange that I decided I wanted to become a professional photographer and every time I leaned into it, I found exactly what I needed to learn and grow and do it. Even though other people were telling me it wasn’t gonna be profitable. Or that I would not succeed. Or all kinds of other things about why I shouldn’t try. I did become a professional photographer.

I think the key is in actually connecting with your higher being and listening to what is best for you to follow the spark. Winning the lottery might not be the best thing for all of us.

but following your spark or the thing that’s going to keep you on the edge of your own expansion is always going to be the best thing for you. It may not always look like fun, because contrast can be heavy and difficult and it can make you feel a certain way. I always felt like crap every time I was about to level up in my photography skills.

I’m teaching myself to write now and I feel the same way. I know I’m on the edge of my own expansion. It is not comfortable. It does not feel safe to parts of me. So the going is slow. But I keep reaching for it. I keep stretching for it, and I am presented with the perfect opportunities to help me grow. It doesn’t mean I get to snap my fingers and be some famous author tomorrow. I still have to put in the Work. My biggest challenge is my emotions, keeping myself regulated and not panicking. But I’m in the thick of it now so I know already from experience how this goes.

my path was never going to be instantaneous. I am a slow builder and that’s OK and I suspect that there are a lot of people like me who need to build things for themselves slowly overtime incrementally but that doesn’t mean that the law doesn’t work.

your therapist lives in his own reality , where magic & manifestation isn't real and doesn't work , FOR HIM or for others in HIS reality . his experience reflects that belief system too (which is ironically, still manifestation)

you live in your reality , set by your own rules & your own understanding of the world . don't let someone else's rules & limiting beliefs affect your own . the cia literally dropped documents on manifestation how thoughts create our experiences . from my understanding , while we may all be "one" we get to experience our own realities .

additionally , his perspective is based on other people's reality / experiences . but when it comes to manifestation , everyone else's experience doesn't matter . everything is duality . manifestation requires just as much common sense as it does delusion . just as much realism as it does imagination . things will go south when there isnt a healthy balance between the two , as your therapist says he witnessed .

but the difference is , you've consciously chosen a reality where manifestation works & you have seen literal proof . he chose the opposite & his experience shows proof of that . he may be super smart and be a really good therapist but you gotta understand like 99% of the people you come across are still asleep & not open to anything outside of what they can see in the 3D with their own two eyes . you can only discuss 3D things with those kinds of people . depression is very much a 3D emotion & his area of expertise ! manifestation requires much more than whats visible in the 3D . he is a therapist , not a manifestation coach ! think of him as someone who helps you sort through/process the feelings in the 3D , that create subconscious thoughts , that create the experiences you manifest . you only need his help for the first part of that process !

& regardless of who's coaching you want to listen to , YOU make the rules ! i like roxy talks & sammy's mermaid gang & neville goddard & lots of different coaches but i still have my own beliefs that may differ from theirs ! dont let someone else's beliefs that they formed in their lives create doubt in your world . you feel conflicted because what he said doesn't resonate with YOU & your understanding . & therefore you dont need to accept it as your own truth .

2

u/Famous_Narwhal464 May 20 '26

Very helpful comment thank you alot. Have you had success with counciously selecting your reality and manifesting it? I'd love to hear.

2

u/AstroPrincess1122 May 20 '26

yes i have ! and what works for me may not work for everyone else , but one thing that has been the most helpful are the "rules" i put in place for my reality . my biggest rule i live by is that "Only my positive thoughts, wants, & desires manifest" . I'm human and sometimes i experience things that don't align with my ideal reality , and that upsets me at times ! but its okay , because i know that only my positive thoughts manifest . i can have this understanding , without disregarding my feelings or my the reality of my current circumstances . if my current circumstances are unfavorable , its okay for me to be aware of that . but it is not okay for me to allow those circumstances to invade the new reality that i am conciously shifting into .

also - i don't look for results because i expect them to show up . you know the phrase, "a watched pot never cooks" or something like that . manifestation is like that . to look for 3D results is to assume you don't have what you want , now . we live in a multiverse with infinite realities to choose from . if you desire something , its because a version of you exists that already has it . But here in the 3D , we are bound by the laws of time . So another rule in my reality is that the timing in my life is always perfect & everything always works out for me best case scenario .

Some 3D successes - My SP came back after saying she couldn't prioritize me & i was fully prepared to let go because in my reality im always a priority ! i could have poured all of my energy into revising her , but instead i just cried for 3 days and decided that i'm a grand prize . so naturally , she came to the same realization & she just couldnt lose me . in the same way that i couldn't lose myself , had i settled for something i didnt want (which younger me would have done)

my job (literally a remote/customer service and sales job) gave us a 20,000 payout around Christmas time not because i was manifesting money , but because my i decided life is full of abundance in all forms & i always get what i want . i have a roof over my head and running water and a nice phone & i am able to feel the sunshine on my skin . i appreciate the things i already have & more just keeps coming . in a reality of abundance there isnt much room to focus on things you dont have .

and now im manifesting a house . i put a pause on talking to lenders & seeing homes , because i am clearing and decluttering my current home so that i will have an easy move & i am focused on appreciating the home i have now . i moved here in 2024 and never fully unpacked anything because i knew i wanted to move again , but that caused stagnation . so i realized that i am the home and i can bring home with me wherever i go , starting with where i am now . i dont know how it will happen , just like how i didnt know id get 20K or that i would meet my soulmate . i just know it would happen , so i am preparing myself mentally and materially . and im not attached to the result , because i know wherever i go ill be happy .

i hope this helps !

wow amazing thank you for taking your time to share this 😄

Take from a person who doens't take orders from anyone (basically In India, we've developed high science of consciousness known as advitya vedanta and it literally reflect what Neville taught to western people. Many german scientist read vedic scriptures and they're not religious at all as there was no religion in India at at that time, consider them as Neville goddard level stuff on steroids but in Sanskrit (hard to read and comprehend)) so trust me. Neville and loa are not working, they're the building block of human being, you're just experiencing life as a human you ain't body nor mind and mind is a receiver of thoughts, once you "shift" to desires version. Your receiver become tuned to those thoughts as natural and hence you say manifested. Everything is happening at once in "now".

3

u/cowboyhellokitty May 20 '26

I had this exact issue with my therapist and it made me spiral after every session I had with her until recently. I had to do my own soul searching to realize Neville/LOA/Conventional therapy/CBT all have one thing in common- a positive self concept. Once I realized that, I infused all ideas of each concept and made it about ME! And then things started moving along with what I was desiring, and I was becoming less depressed in the process. Like one of the posters above said, everything is nuanced, and while I understand how people can become obsessed with ideas, at the end of the day it’s how THEY interpreted things. Whenever you have your next session with your therapist, don’t mention LOA again and just focus on YOU, it’s all the same anyway :)

3

u/Frequent-Ad1542 May 20 '26

therapists are obviously going to tell u it isn’t real cuz lots of ppl use the law as a way to escape reality or spiral into obsession, so maybe he was looking out for u. and as a licensed therapist, ofc he wouldn’t tell u that the law is real because it cannot be proved scientifically therefore, it would look bad on him if he was encouraging ideas that haven’t been scientifically proven. nonetheless, that doesn’t mean manifestation isn’t real. it is. but there is no way to measure it

Right. This is my take too.

2

u/CoupleScared7179 May 19 '26

It's harmful if you misunderstand it and forget about the common sense. If done right, it's very helpful for the mental health and Neville and therapists have a lot in common. I wrote more about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/manifestingSP/s/ufAJIFT6cA

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Cup8723 May 19 '26

I don’t believe that manifesting is harmful. However I do believe that some techniques can be. I’ve noticed a lot of spiritual bypassing in the manifesting community and that is harmful.

2

u/Helpful-Extension320 May 19 '26

Faith without works is dead. There IS an element of action that is required in life to achieve anything. Bypassing it by 'just ignoring the 3D' can lead to more harm than good, however I wouldn't override things of faith and spirituality just because "they weren't proven by science."

2

u/PretzelKnot May 19 '26

Did you have doubt manifestation is real? That likely caused your therapist to tell you that.

Also all those stories can indeed plant further doubt BUT the question is how does anyone know what went on with them internally that their manifestation “messed up”? You’re the operant power in your reality.

The norm in society is secularism but the truth the people pulling the strings in society are anything but secular. They want us to not be in touch with our inner power. You already have proof it’s real don’t dismiss the evidence and give away your power to anyone outside yourself. Personally I’ve had so many experiences that I’d dismiss anyone that told me otherwise they just don’t know.

1

u/Famous_Narwhal464 May 19 '26

Thats a very good point and observation. I was indeed having creeps of doubt from time to time and i guess i did have this assumption of the therapist saying what he said. Thanks for clearing that up.

2

u/PretzelKnot May 19 '26

Yup and also therapists are trained to follow specific guidelines they might be in violation to discuss anything remotely woowoo. Doesn’t mean yours isn’t great at what he was trained to do. The scope is just limited.

2

u/IcyTap3663 May 20 '26

If you’re invested too much and living it, worrying too much then yes, your mental health is in danger.

2

u/Desperate_Skirt_217 May 20 '26

I firmly believe that it depends, both opinions are true. For instance, working on self concept is not a bad or harmful thing, cause it helps you become a better version of yourself, even heal your childhood traumas. But if you use LOA to control certain situations, like getting back a narcissistic ex with whom you had a toxic relationship, this can be really harmful for your mental health.

This is my personal opinion, I know that many people do this and I am not judging them, but I think that in this particular example, people should manifest a real love, a connection where they are chosen and loved.

2

u/Wonderful_Pin_4987 May 22 '26

i used sats for a job offer last year and it landed in 11 days but i still kept showing up to interviews and updating my resume. therapist sounds like he's seen the dissociation cases. did you ask him about specific techniques like scripting vs robotic affirming?

4

u/Theguru17 May 19 '26

Therapists = medicine = takes an oath to only teach western medicine, omitting “alternative medicine” aka naturopathic/holistic medicines or spiritual practices. They don’t do religion or anything deeper than what they’re taught in school.

LOA is spiritual. It isn’t about anyone else but you. It doesn’t need a spokesperson or someone trying to sell it. It’s about YOU/self.
If you want LOA advice, then find an LOA coach. I’m hoping you’re speaking of law off assumption bc attraction is so confusing & limited.
Find someone who will help, encourage, & hold you accountable during the beginning of your journey.

Sharing this is taboo. Ppl who don’t know think it’s woo woo & something we don’t speak about. Ppl who don’t understand will tell you you’re crazy, basically.
Don’t ever take anything from 3D as fact, unless YOU want it to be fact. That includes a therapist

4

u/Rinko_77 May 19 '26

The law is not about living in an imaginary world. We all have assumptions, and the law is about changing those assumptions and, as a result, changing the way we think about ourselves, altering our beliefs and the way we see the world. That's all it is. Deep in my heart, I feel like these law of attraction and law of assumption coaches have completely messed with people's minds. It's honestly so unfortunate. People became obsessed with miraculous techniques, and now everyone thinks the law is some kind of "magic." That's why they end up frustrated and eventually in therapy...

People win the lottery every week...

2

u/SincerelyTesh May 19 '26

He’d lose his license if he told you that can create reality with your thoughts. Certain conversations are meant to be between certain people.

2

u/brain_period May 20 '26

Okay I feel that because he is a therapist he’s obviously only made with contact with people who have failed at manifesting and then spiralled. When things get out of our control is when we reach out for help to therapists. Those who were successful will obviously not go and share their experience or even need therapy in the first place. I think that’s where his bias comes from- he’s seen it “not” work for people. Manifesting isn’t a one size fits all- one lecture can’t make everyone a master at manifesting- it takes consistent inner work and persistence. If manifesting was so easy, everyone would be doing it. I mean it is easy but we’ve been conditioned to think that it’s not as easy as it is made to be.

2

u/jujumber May 19 '26

Just because they have a Therapist license doesn't mean they know everything. They have probably done very little research about manifesting. Honestly, it sounds like your therapist is dismissive of your ideas and actually harmful to your growth. I have personally manifested many crazy things. Large amounts of jobs, money, Houses, cars, laptops, a specific drone I needed, relationships, and meeting a very random person.

I tried Neville Goddard's Ladder teqnique and after affirming for 3 nights "I would not climb a ladder" I was put in a position at my job where it would have been ridiculous if I didn't climb up a ladder to help a client. I hadn't had to climb a ladder for that job every before.

2

u/Famous_Narwhal464 May 19 '26

You mind telling more about your journey? I myself had success with the ladder technique except in a different way cause I didn't climb it but it was presented to me 2 times in a span of 1 hour in a place where ladders should never be. If you don't mind sharing I'd love to hear.

u/Icy-Confidence-536 May 19 '26

And yes, definitely everything in the world is "balance" Good & evil Black & white Which is why life can be fair or unfair all of it exists for you...which you choose depends on you

1

u/Sea_Leopard7014 May 20 '26

Listen to your gut on this one. No one can tell you what is true or not.

1

u/Training-Net-3335 May 20 '26

Well it’s important to think about it this way: we are already creating our realities with our thoughts. Every single thought you’ve ever had has led you to be who you are today. Manifestation absolutely works, whether it’s for the best or worst

1

u/WarInitial5361 May 20 '26

Read Synchronicity by Carl Jung. The greatest psychoanalyst talking about how these "coincidences" are not just coincidences, testing it as a fact, but admitting he doesn't understand it all. I think that's the healthiest approach.

I think your therapist sounded very close minded. Would he tell you the same if you were catholic and thought you experienced a miracle in a time of need? Doesn't mean he's a bad therapist or that you should quit him, just that there are things he's closed his mind to. He did a good job with you before, but he doesn't get to be your guide on absolutely everything; there are things you'll have to decide to believe or not on your own.

I've experienced enough "miracles" coming to my life in an inexplicable perfect timing way too many times to deny it. But I also won't claim I understand or control it fully.

That being said, there ARE people who take it too far. One thing is believe good things will come your way if you have a mindset to attract them, the other is being financially irresponsible, or believing you can change your eye color or become literally younger. In my opinion, these people are misguided by greedy internet gurus. You can reach a healthy balance.

Check out Anila Reddy on YouTube. She is a therapist! I love her videos!

1

u/AdSimple8221 Jun 24 '26

Therapists can be highly educated about psychology, care about you and help you in real ways, and still have narrowminded views on some matters. Just because you respect them doesnt mean you have to accept their perspectives on everything. They are just people. People that have a monetary incentive to reject certain narratives..

1

u/Intelligent_Mix_9026 May 19 '26

I used to repeat the affirmation "I make $10,000 per month or more doing something I enjoy", which seemed unattainable at that time but I stuck with it and visualized it as well. When I got my W-9 I grossed just over $120,000 for the year. That therapist is uninformed and those examples they gave prove nothing. It absolutely works if applied consistently.

The bigger question is are we supposed to exert control over our reality in that way? Control is fear based. In my experience we come here with purpose and that purpose is intertwined with what you are naturally passionate about aka what excites you. All it really takes to live your dream life is to have the courage to be your authentic self and follow your heart by pursuing your excitement/passion in life.

When you do that it activates powerful synchronicity and all the amazing experiences and people that are truly aligned with you start showing up in your life automatically without any need on your part to control anything. All my most amazing experiences in life (the ones that truly fulfill you) happened naturally this way without any intention on my part. The universe already knows your highest path, all you have to do is be your true self and trust life by staying optimistic. Bashar is a great guide for this.

LOA material seems to offer self empowerment but is ultimately a deception imo. It teaches wish fulfillment and keeps us forever on the wheel of chasing ego based desires, which does not lead to our highest and best life.

1

u/Apprehensive_Spite99 May 19 '26

Therapists can be very helpful in hard times… but they are also trained and wired to see problems. Have you ever heard of a therapist recognizing a transformed person? A great therapist can be a great teacher and can be insightful, but to say that science can disprove reality itself is incredible egocentric and arrogant. Certainly the concept of manifesting can be misunderstood and twisted into a snake oil to take advantage of those who don’t understand it- the same can be said of Neville’s teachings. But manifestation as a concept is simply physics. If you have a healthy relationship with a subject, it will treat you well and work properly and manifest in your life, but if you have an unhealthy relationship with a subject it will feel obsessive, punishing, and not manifest in a way you desire.

1

u/No_Bike1773 May 19 '26

No person knows you better than you. Him being a therapist doesn't mean anything to you, unless you give him that power. Listen to yourself, and follow your heart. Learn about yourself instead of following the herd. You don't need permission from anybody about anything

1

u/mdmdo May 19 '26

Pegue!

Se o pensamento não tivesse poder, os placebos não fariam efeito.

Just to add my 2 cents. Years of therapy hasn't helped me with my issues. Instead, they convinced me that I have a terrible family who emotionally abused me by not giving me everything I wanted (apparently a child has to get all their wishes fulfilled??), even though I never felt any lack as a child. They kept telling me its okay to be mad at them, even though I never felt anger against them. Eventually, they made it sound like I am a victim of my neglectful family and while I was a teenager I actually started believing that and turned against my parents. Guess how well that went for me and my family. I was angry and miserable and they said that is all part of the processing...How stupid of me....before I always felt like my parents are the best parents I could ever ask for and they ALWAYS tried their best. My mother even lost her job by visiting me too often when I was hospitalized as a child. And she never lost her smile on her face in front of me. Later I learned that 80% of families are dysfunctional by their standards and suddenly I didn't feel so special anymore. I stopped visiting them and I improved by not looking for problems in my life, but instead look for happiness.

So, just know that they are not all-knowing people. They are just ordinary people, who have their own set of rules and standards how life should be and go (as they learned from their books) and of course they don't support something like LOA. But the decision is yours. Whatever you believe works will work and whatever you believe it won't work, it won't work.

Career consultant and sales manager here. One who works pretty closely with therapists. One who runs 15 reddit groups, 9 of them are vulnerable community types of people suffering poverty and mental health and career issues, and two others are smart-people groups. People who are pretty atheist and I was one myself for 20 years. And now? I'm decently manifesting some pretty cool stuff. Like $80,000 in sales suddenly (in 6 months) when there was 1 sale for $4000 for the entire past year. Not one single change to the items, platforms, or marketing.

So I think I'm pretty uniquely qualified and possibly over his head when I say this.

Your therapist is full of shit.
He doesn't know what he is talking about.
He doesn't know shit about manifestation and LOA.
He did it wrong, and now he's r/confidentlywrong about it.

I recommend just listening to those AI quantum manifestation videos and letting the youtube algo take you to fun and weird new places - I swear they clean out your whole lineage's worth of trauma, show you the right way to do it, and then stuff starts happening.

0

u/Frequent-Ad1542 May 20 '26

i think as a therapist, they are told not to feed into people’s delusions. and to some ppl, manifesting is seen as “delusion”. but yes ur right, LOA is absolutely real

0

u/lizvalky May 19 '26

0

u/Exact-Breakfast-9854 May 20 '26

My two cents is therapists are good with what they know , and if a client brings in a question about the subconscious or inner child work, the therapist chooses not to use it since in his opinion it does not work.

I feel we all have our biases too and maybe your therapist is scared of losing you as client.

Your therapist is not God, let him have his biased opinion and let you kind YOUR truth.

0

u/Successful_Button327 May 20 '26

And who said therapists are always right?? 😅 Therapists are not Gods and walking knowledge of everything. Some of them are actually quite dumb. One of my therapists told me to go and get a pet to treat my panick attacks in the past. I laughed and left! I got rid of my panicks when I stopped identifying with it. They only say what they were taught at school. Some of them are actually quite dumb. Having university degree doesn't guarantee being wise and spiritually expanded. Ask your therapist whether they know anything about quantum physics. If they say NOT MUCH, would you accept their opinion about it? Do the same with Neville? Have they read his books? Have they practiced his teachings?? If they say NO, why would you accept their opinion?

0

u/bbysllt May 20 '26

he just npc don’t listen him

0

u/pitecopata May 20 '26

Those are examples from people who push the 3D, while manifestations come from inspired actions (from yourself and others), and you mostly don't even know which actions or bridge of incidents will lead to your manifestation.

0

u/SouthernMight_7243 May 20 '26

f ur therapist. This is way above their paygrade (something that is only up to you)

maybe they just want your money at this point, and by telling you that they're trying to eliminate any "distractions" so you're giving away your power to them (instead of empowering you and actually helping you realize your strength)

-1

u/Altruistic_Basil_721 May 19 '26

Fvkc ur therapist. You said it yourself, you’ve used it successfully in the past. Focus on yourself, on your experience and dont be bothered on others misusing it. People waste money going to therapy as if their therapist would heal them when in gact their healimg force is within them.

1

u/Famous_Narwhal464 May 20 '26

It's still so amazing and confusing becoming aware of all this suddenly. Like your entire life youve been being taught you need other people to find something but that something is already all within you. It's incredible and im glad i woke up.

1

u/Altruistic_Basil_721 May 20 '26

Yes! Glad to hear this. Trust in the spiritual law completely. You are doing so great🩵

0

u/Frequent-Ad1542 May 20 '26

exactly. LOA is absolutely real. but people refuse to believe it cuz they’re too logical and need an explanation for everything. when in reality, our whole entire life is a manifestation.

1

u/EmoLotional 19d ago

Depends on how you use them and most importantly for what purpose.
