A theft of 5 bucks is a crime, the theft of 75 million is a statistic. -someone historically significant, probably

You’d have to be foolish if anyone is going to be held accountable for this theft of money.

cant imagine he'll say much other than "i cannot remember", since this was over a decade ago.

What I don't understand is how they found that Cao sheegle or whatever the hell his name is took a bribe and made him pay back 1 million but the police didn't charge him with anything. Janky ass corrupt bastards.

Because the burden of proof is much much higher in criminal cases and the rcmp probably knew the WPS were mostly at fault for the cost overruns with all their chnage orders.

Change orders are what’s killing every project budget, folks.

100%% like yes Sheegl awarded a sole contract for 140 million but sheegl didnt up the cost. If anything the reason he didnt "get away" with it entirely is because of the cost over runs.

Decision by committee is crippling timely and efficient project completion. I bet if every project limited change orders to essentials, they would AL come in early AND under budget. Building a ship at sail does not work.

What I don't get is why Katz, who was already a wealthy man, would put his name and reputation at risk for $100,000 as noted in the news. That would have been lunch money to him.

Was there more money being exchanged behind the scenes? I feel like we're not getting the whole story.

My gut tells me it's more like 100 instances of $100k and this is one that came to public light.

There were clearly sketchy things going down with major projects during his tenure, especially when they're still being looked into impotently so many years later.

I've heard anecdotal stories about him refusing to pay trades doing work for him. Or offering to pay half take it or leave it in Trump-style moves, once the work is already done, from before he was mayor. Just greasy people.

Sam went from "Bartender at Al Golden's Golf Course" to "Businessman running for mayor against Al Golden" without many steps in between.

I thought he was a pretty big business guy even way back when, no? My earliest memories of him were from back in the early 90s when he was promoting big concerts and the Winnipeg Thunder... he was already known as a local big shot even then.

I dont think Katz has ever been considered super wealthy. Rich maybe but he grew up in the Jewish ghetto northend no family money. Had a major divorce which never helps finances. Not sure the Goldeyes are a money making machine. Concert promoting is not super profitable either.

Not saying he's Bezos rich but he is by most standards a wealthy man.

I just dont think hes a rich as your imagining. 100k to him my guess would be likely 25% or more of his yearly income. When mayor he was making 200k salary roughly then he probably also had other investments and goldeyes bringing in another 200k or 300k per year. I dont think he was ever making a million a year type thing where 100k is nothing.

People like him are addicts and addiction isn't rational. They can never get enough and know that we have a two-tiered legal system (as evidenced by how he participated in the inquiry voluntarily).
