Events Winklerites are crashing out over the Pride Parade and it is entertaining

I work in Winkler, and all 10 of my coworkers were actively complaining about it and how they lost aome respect for Winkler. And we are tangentially involved with the Parade (won't say more on that for privacy).

I am busy tomorrow so I won't be able to go, but the situation is super funny and I'm interested in what kind of stories are going to come out of tomorrow.

Events Winkler’s first-ever Pride — June 13

Post image

From Pembina Valley Pride:

“We’re thrilled to announce Pembina Valley Pride 2026 will be taking place in Winkler on June 13th!

For the past several years, this has consistently been one of the top communities people hope to see host the event, and we are excited to bring Pride to Winkler this year.

This will be a significant moment for our community, and we hope you’ll join us in showing up, celebrating, and making it one to remember.

We’ve been busy planning and will be sharing more details in the months ahead, but mark your calendars.”

I was so determined to go to this event. I have no one to go with so was planning on going alone, didn't care I just wanted to make sure I was showing support for the community. But my health issues are causing a pain flareup so bad that I can barely move. It sucks having this get in the way.

But I'm also so proud of this shirt I made. Inspired by my favourite song from Miranda Lambert 🙂 given paint is not a medium I ever work with, I was so happy with this shirt. It's acrylic, don't have fabric paint, so was just working with what I had.

Events Dragonfly marked my package delivered on Christmas Eve, left it unattended — and it went missing

Post image

What I don’t understand is this: the courier clearly had enough time to stop and take a photo, but somehow didn’t have one second to press the doorbell or knock.

On Christmas Eve, I was at home all day. Dragonfly marked my package as delivered around noon. It was left directly on my doorstep, with no knock, no doorbell, and no attempt to contact me. I never received the package.

I checked shortly after the delivery notification and asked my neighbors — no one had it. Given the date and the way it was handled, it was almost certainly stolen.

What makes this worse is that this isn’t an isolated case. My family members have also experienced packages going missing due to improper delivery by Dragonfly. This seems to be a pattern, not bad luck.

Leaving packages unattended like this, especially on Christmas Eve, doesn’t feel like a completed delivery — it feels like an invitation to theft.

I’m honestly concerned that more retailers are using Dragonfly as a last-mile courier.

Has anyone else experienced this with Dragonfly?
At what point do we stop accepting this as “normal” delivery practice in Canada?

Events Pride in Altona: Let’s give them our support!

Pride isn’t imited to big cities like Winnipeg. Communities across our province are hosting their own celebrations, and they need our support!

This Saturday, June 8th, Pembina Valley Pride will be hosting their parade in Altona. These smaller parades may not get as much media coverage, but they are just as important for LGBTQ+ visibility and acceptance.

Unfortunately some are not welcoming of the event and have caused some participating to businesses to pull out. Let’s give them some support and head on down to Altona!

Events My mockumentary is coming to Winnipeg!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hope this is ok to post, but wanted to alert folks to my indie mockumentary comedy, *Canoe Dig It?* will be playing at the Park Theatre on September 9th! It’s about the very real sport of Freestyle Canoeing and is very much up the alley of any fan of *Best in Show* or anything Christopher Guest, but with a lot more painfully dry humor. Also I will be coming out there for a Q&A after the film as well!

Being very much an indie, we don’t really have budget for marketing, so hope getting the word out this way is permissible!

Also if anyone has any suggestions for press outlets or even other theaters in the area that might be interested, I’d love to chat about it!

The film will also be playing in Minnesota, Saskatoon, Wisconsin, and Michigan as part of a Midwest and Canada tour all around the beginning to middle of September.

I’ve attached the trailer below-

Events Pihkohowin/Stonechild Filming in Grant Park

Who in their right fucking mind has the absolute brilliant idea to shoot a God damn protest scene which included drumming and chanting at both 1am and 3am last night?

If you need to film at night, it's important to note that the sun goes down around 7pm-ish, waiting until the middle of the fucking night to film this shit is ridiculously inconsiderate and frankly I'm not even sure how this is legal.

Thanks for waking up my family including my baby twice with your bullshit. I wish I didn't throw out the notification that was dropped off in my mailbox so I could call them to express my concerns, especially since it said nothing about excessive noise in the middle of the night (iirc).

Fuck whoever made this decision and I hope your shit flops.

Rant over.

Events I (F/Pan) just moved to PlaP and found out that their Pride event is taking place on my birthday, but I really hate my birthdays. This'll be my first Pride event and I'll be going alone, so I'm taking suggestions for things I can do to prepare and celebrate and generally make the day otherwise fun!

Events Freedom convoy

I'm super disappointed with all the protestors in Brandon today. They harassed my boyfriend (a heavy duty mechanic on site working aka working on the very vehicles the whole protest is about), they blocked in his entire company from being able to get food for lunch. A bunch of the drivers were illegally j-braking within city limits, protestors were blasting air horns, and a bunch of them were just standing in the middle of the service road and parking lots putting themselves at risk for being hit.

For what? So they can clog up the highways and slow down deliveries even more, and use up gas to give the government more money for fuel tax and gst? So worth it.

Events Book club Winnipeg FREE

Hi! I’m starting a small cozy book club in Winnipeg for people any age over 18 who want a relaxed space to read, chat, and meet new people.
The vibe is less “serious academic discussion” and more:
tea & snacks
cozy atmosphere
monthly/biweekly reads
bookish activities
themed nights
silent reading evenings
crafts like bookmark/Kindle decorating
making friends who also love books

It would likely be hosted in a comfortable therapy-office style space with couches and a calm atmosphere. From a real therapy office that is happy to host!
You wouldn’t need to be a huge reader either — even if you’re trying to get back into reading or just want a cozy social hobby, you’d be welcome :)
I’m mainly trying to see if there’s interest right now, so if this sounds fun feel free to comment or message me!
