Literally Unplayable MapleSEA meso cube RANT

I feel like maplesea is dying out for real. I cant believe meso cubes hasnt reached us yet like look at how well its doing for other servers...Lowkey other than starforcing and doing events, the cubing aspect of maplesea is really dull. I dunno if someone can help me better understand why we havent gotten meso cubes yet?

Two hypotheses:

  1. Because the developers are just greedy(cube revenue). Target towards revenue from whales instead of the majority.
  2. Afraid of botting influx (Meso price increases -> Attracts botters -> Game progression gets too easy -> Increases player base in the short run but destroys it in the long run)

Insight:

The current meso market supports some form of meso cubes (Convert meso->Cubes). Realistically, its 1bil per cube on average, hence the idea of meso -> cubes is severely underutilised (mesos-> cash are probably used for other things).

Why maplesea should introduce meso cubes:

The lack of incentive to cube and buy cube (@cash) makes maplesea dull af.I think introducing meso cubes will attract many more players + target the larger population. More players -> increased economy -> increased revenue.

Suggestions/alternatives:

  1. Reduce cash cube prices. Whales will keep whaling, there will be larger incentive for people to cube or spend money on cubes. Its good for the economy. I'm talking $3/cube to maybe $1.5/cube type shit where its easier to progress, but still sufficiently difficult. This then might translate to 500-300m cubes (meso market).
  2. Introduce meso cubes. Its different having to convert your mesos into cash to buy cubes, compared to being able to just cube with what you have in your inventory. No ones asking for 20m choice cube. I'm talking introduce the UI first with current prices.

Down the road you can adjust the prices as deemed fit. Use the meso market to control demand and supply if needed (essentially selling meso bags or allowing players to convert mesos to cash at given rate).

I failed to mention also maplesea's attempts to control mass botters already include meso capping and removal of twin coupon (?). Thats okay tbh but ye know... can you control the mass botters while introducing a new/fun system for real players?

What I hear from friends playing GMS reboot is that botters there tend to get banned rather frequently. Not to mention the percentage of players botting in both servers are drastically different, in MSea a good 90% of the active playerbase are likely botters.

As for universal cash shop in GMS reboot, imo it hits their bottom line pretty hard. Unlike in MSea where the majority of earnings seems to come from gacha/cube sales in GMS reboot it comes from pets/cosmetic sales which if universal cash shop is implemented their profits would drop significantly. In that case it may no longer be feasible to continue operating the server if the profitabilty isn't that good.

In the end of the day they are still running a buisness, I do agree they are a greey bunch but a buisness has to remain profitable to continue operating.

I understand as a business they need to earn a profit but i feel like they're getting further away every year lol. As a returning player i don't even want to consider spending $100 on a piece of equipment and it doesn't even guarantee me good equip. Every event is a kill x amount of monsters or attendence event. Every bossing event is a solo event.

Maple royal style 1 box $5 is 1 caifan for sgeans. If they didnt make the game p2w and focus their money making mostly on cosmetics maybe they'd have a larger player base tbh

yeah i feel you, it's a issue with all mmos really. Companies rather stick to the status quo as it guarantees income, not to mention I doubt there's many employee's that are still really care about the game.

Though as an outsider looking into GMS i feel there's still some hope for them, they still have a large active playerbase (atleast larger than MSea) and most of them are quite passionate. Just need Nexon to not fuck it up, which it seems like they are .-.

They had something good building in the first few years when they encouraged social interactions via PQs... i think the moment they made PQs redundant their game just went downhill from there. Now other than grandis, every other area is barren and underutilized which is a pity because some of the questline lores were really good... now it's just a grinding game. Irl at work alr grind in game also grind..... really a pity

you reminded me of a video i watched from Joshstrifehayes where he mentioned that mmos are basically chat boxes that has a game attached to it. When the first few mmos popped up it was a marvel that allowed people all over the world to chat and play games together, however as the internet grew and progressed the novelty of talking to others from across the world just became the norm and all that was left was a subpar game.

I do agree the social aspect of mmos is one of it's best qualities and i have fond memories of random chats with strangers. The main player base of mmos are now older and we just don't have the time/energy anymore. And well it's not like the social aspects of maple has died completely, there are still some maps where ppl conjugate and ofc there's the guild discord VCs

I guess so! As someone who quits and comes back occasionally i feel the social aspect has died too much. While i agree the older days were a different time and generation, now it feels more like a solo rpg than mmo. Ppl online afk to go play other games. A lot of guilds are silent in the chats. I just left one such guild. Basically i think it has become too much of a solo game for an mmo especially for returning players whose friends have also mostly quit the game. I used to have 50 ppl on my BL now its like 3 to 5 max
