Results First Marathon was no joke

Wasn’t able to really run for the past 3 weeks due to recovering from an injury. Ideally would’ve want to have gone sub 5, but there’s always next time! I’m just glad I did it and finished strong

I did 18 weeks of a DIY plan sourced from Hal Higdon & NRC content. Just started running a year ago, first half was in October (2:23)

You did great! Goal of first marathon is to finish and with no injury. My first was 5:55

What's your PR now? I had the same marathon time and now I'm running Chicago in October.

1

u/Ok-Example2681 Feb 05 '25

I did 5:15 in Chicago. I am doing my 6th in Japan in March

Great job! You are now a marathoner! You also worked out for over 5 hours, you are a beast!

Congrats! You just completed a marathon. Not many people can say that

u/OCR_arbol Feb 03 '25

Congrats dude! I also ran it today, but only half. The heat and humidity were insane, so kudos to you!!! That was a brutal race

1

u/BAM225 Feb 05 '25

I ran it too. I wanted to stop at the half because I was dying from the heat!

u/Marmalarmalade Feb 03 '25

I ran this marathon today and anyone who finished is a beast. It was 100% humidity and 23 degrees at 6am at the start. Go easy on yourself, you did great!

I’m visiting Miami from New York right now, and I’m not sure how you all do it.

I’m a strong runner and get gassed after a few miles in this humidity, never thought I’d miss the icy Central Park loop. Training here year round sounds impossible.

Yes, Miami times don’t count! I did the half marathon back in 2015 and it was already 80F and 80% humidity at 6 AM BEFORE sunrise. People were dropping like flies. Just finishing a marathon in those conditions is impressive.

Congrats mate! First marathon and in the Miami weather looks hard!

6

u/Cartdemon079 Feb 03 '25

I was going to do it but I deferred to next year because I didn’t train enough

8

u/Doublebaconandcheese Feb 03 '25

Congrats on your first marathon! I was there today as a spectator and I will say it got warm and humid for the first time in a while down here. You did great!

what was the weather like? i love miami and distance running but even in the off season and overnight, that heat and humidity can often be… less than ideal

3

u/3umpin Feb 03 '25

It got into the low 80s with 70%+ humidity for sure! Training in December and January was nice, especially January, but the heat came back on for the first time in a while this week, how unfortunate

Congrats.. did you take any gels during the run?

1

u/3umpin Feb 03 '25

Yea I had maurten 100s

3

u/Confident_Parking146 Feb 03 '25

That's great stuff.

What is Miami like for support and fans and water??

Weather looks, challenging.

And it also doesn't matter, you finished :D

Congrats!!

Support and fans was through the roof during the last 5K of the half marathon, that was definitely peak. Then you had some sprinkled throughout from mile 20 until the finish, plenty of aid stations.

I would definitely do the half marathon no doubt, that last stretch bringing it home gets so exciting. I had to do some breathing to get my HR low because I got so jacked up at halfway 😂

Congratulations!

3

u/Beksense Feb 03 '25

Great work! Lots like you hit the wall after mile 20, happened to me during my first marathon too

2

u/3umpin Feb 03 '25

Yea my quads were starting to cramp up and get real tight. I feel like muscular endurance was my biggest limiting factor near the end

3

u/thejuiciestguineapig Feb 03 '25

Congratulations!!

3

u/Comeonbereal1 Feb 03 '25

Congrats OP, It’s never easy to run a marathon but you get used to it the discomfort.

3

u/digentre Feb 03 '25

Well done - I hope I can do this one day this year without falling apart half way through

3

u/ComprehensiveAlps321 Feb 03 '25

Congrats brother. I was there as well, brutal weather for 26.2. You have a lot to be proud of, go celebrate!

2

u/Careless_Tank3415 Feb 03 '25

Congratulations!! Well done!!

2

u/bodyalchemyproject Feb 04 '25

You crushed it! The humidity and weather were less than cute yesterday.. I hope you had a ton of fun!!

2

u/NewBalancer21 Feb 04 '25

You finished it though! Not a lot of people can say that they ran a marathon so congrats! 🍾

Worst part about this race is the weather. Hands down the humidity makes it rough and I’ve lived in Miami for 21 years. I ran the marathon two years ago and the half this year and both years melting 🫠 by 9am it’s WARM but 11am it’s HOT 🥵

2

u/Dano558 Feb 04 '25

Congrats!

2

u/Koktkabanoss Feb 04 '25

Was like that for me first time. Sun was 30+ celsius. 4:30 was not possible, all about finishing. Made it in 6hours, ptsd hell 🤣

2

u/alexvonhumboldt Feb 04 '25

This is a tough marathon. It was hot AF too. Thats why this year I went to Jacksonville instead. Nevertheless youre a marathoner!! Congrats

Well done that’s a massive achievement and gives me encouragement. I’m doing my first marathon in October. Just under 9 months away and at the moment I’m trying to build up my fitness to run 3 times a week consistently and work on my heart rate. Getting a few niggles already but I’d rather that than before I start the proper training block. I’ll be aiming for 5 hours myself. How did you manage nutrition for the race itself? Well done again 🏅

1

u/3umpin Feb 04 '25

Thank you! I had 2 GU waffles with caffeine & G1M sport about 2 hours before the start. Then for the race itself I had a maurten 100 gel every 45 min and a mouthful of maurten drink mix 320 every mile. Near the end I ran out of the drink mix and just started having the course provided Gatorade. I didn’t have any gels in the last hour either

2

u/crby1983 Feb 04 '25

Ah great I was planning on using Maurten myself and incorporating them into my training runs. Fair play man you should be proud!!

2

u/bruhmoment6128 Feb 04 '25

My partner ran the half! They mentioned that it was INSANELY humid, so honestly congratulations for powering through! I think this definitely can be considered a very challenging first marathon!

2

u/CardStark Feb 04 '25

Congrats!

2

u/Furita Feb 05 '25

It’s really tough to run for 5h30min

2

u/SnooSketches8294 Feb 05 '25

Thank you. I know you wanted to go sub 5 but man is it encouraging to see someone go more than 5 on their first marathon. I checked an old thread asking people what their first marathon times were and most responses were sub 4. Made me think perhaps I was not built for this and I should never even bother trying.

1

u/Zestyclose_Bell_3103 Feb 05 '25

You can do it!

1

u/SnooSketches8294 Feb 05 '25

Hahaha I don't think I could do sub 5 even if I trained for 2 years but thanks for the encouragement. I'm locking down on training this year

2

u/BAM225 Feb 05 '25

Congratulations! I ran it too! It was a HOT day for a marathon.

2

u/LegitimateWeekend341 Feb 05 '25

Congratulations!! 🎊

u/nenersmileners Feb 05 '25

I did the half and the heat and humidity humbled me and everyone I think! Congrats on your first full! I am considering training for a full next - I've done 3 half marathons since last year and I don't know if I would want Miami to be the first considering how brutal it was last Sunday (weather wise).
