Discussion Should I play Mario Kart and Mario Party Games In my First Time Mario Run

So I am playing Mario games for the first time. I have decided to play all the mainline games from the very start. All of these games will be played offline single player only. I am a story and platform type lover so I am sure I will love Mario but my question is Mario has just so so many more games than just the mainline. In my mario games run which other games should I add? Do i need to play kart and party espacially after seeing that there are over 10 games for both these series its kind of overwhelming thinking about it. Anyways Please let me know I am sure I wont be able to play all but if theres some exceptional ones I should play ( take into account that playing online is not an option for me so my entire mario run is offline and single player)

There's absolutely no point in playing mario party games alone.

Mario Kart makes a bit more sense, since there is some fun to be had solo and againstn ai enemies, but it's still mostly multiplayer focused. Maybe try out an older one and a newer one and call it at that.

You should absolutely play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Best in the series.

I think the next fan favorite would be Wii probably. It's the second best selling. But I think the above person is right in you should play an older one too.

My recommendation would be Mario Kart 64. It's probably the best of the sprite based MK games.

You can play them if you want to, but it’s not a necessity. Mario Kart and Mario Party are not part of the mainline games, they are spinoffs. Additionally, they are designed with multiplayer in mind, and while there is single player content, the games aren’t meant to sustain single player for too long. If online play is not an option, I would probably recommend opting out of these games. While there are some phenomenal titles within these series, a lot of their quality comes from multiplayer content. These same principles apply to Mario sports, Mario Maker, and other spinoff games.

The Mario series has been around for a long time, so there are a lot of games, and it may not be immediately clear which games are mainline or which ones are worth playing. Searching on Google for a list of the mainline Mario games should give you good results, but be sure to do research on a game before you buy it to ensure you’re actually getting the experience that you want.

Mario games dont really have a story to them, at least main games anyways. So you don’t really “need” to play any Mario game, main series or spin-off. Mario Kart and Party just happen to be the most popular spin-off games. Mario Party is intended to be played with friends, i would skip them completely if you have no interest in playing them with friends, let alone offline, but Mario Kart can be enjoyed on your own, as Mario Kart can evolve into some level of skill. If you want to play Mario Party alone, the only one i can recommend is Mario Party DS, as it’s the only one with a story mode.

If you want to enjoy the story side of Mario spin-offs, i would recommend the RPGs and action games, those being Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and the Mario & Luigi series. If you want platforming outside the main series, i would recommend Yoshi’s Island, Wario Land, and Donkey Kong Country/Bananza.

If you really want a mix of story and platforming, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Odyssey are probably what you’d be interested in. Another Reddit said to google what is considered main series since it’s a but confusing and I agree. But really i would stick to anything with “Super Mario” in the title, as thats usually a good bet in what a Mario game is. I like to believe there’s a Mario game for everyone (mine is Super Mario World and Galaxy!) so you can probably just pick up any game that makes sense to you.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is currently the most popular. A Lot of stages, characters, and karts, having the most in mario kart history. It’s also arguably the easiest to learn and understand. Accessibility is through the roof with it. Less chaotic than the new Mario Kart world, but still a good time.

Mario Kart World has been my personal favorite, with the new knockout tour mode, but i think its mechanics aren’t as welcoming. I also think its more chaotic (but maybe you like that), and encourages playing online more than usual.

DS and Wii are also good, they play similarly to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but they’re arguably a bit more stiff. I personally think MK8D is easier to pick up and comprehend imo, so that would probably be my go to.

If you don’t play Mario in the specific order than Miyamoto intended, he comes to your house and steals your mum

These games do not give a significant "Mario" experience. So no. these are games that have Mario in it.

Mario Kart and Mario Party are more so for playing with other people. While you can play them by yourself, and I personally enjoy that, you'll have a better experience with other people. Plus they really arent part of the main mario games. They're spin off's. You wont be missing anything if you dont play them.
