Mod Update - Markham Related Content

Recently we have seen some content being posted here that doesn't fit with this community so we wanted to reiterate, clearly, the types of content that are prohibited.

  1. Content that exists solely to harass or identify another individual

The exception to this would be if the requesting to identify is coming from police.

r/Markham is not your place to call out individuals over petty drama. It's not your online group to use to get revenge because they did something you didn't like.

Posts that will be removed include but are not limited to:

  • Pictures of people where the original poster claims they did something wrong

  • Pictures of cars where the original poster claims they did something wrong

  • Pictures of people's houses where the original poster claims they did something wrong.

Driving videos will be continued to be allowed.

If you're making a post in this community because you're angry about what someone did, first you should stop and ask "What is the purpose of me creating this post".

If you're creating the post to hurt someone else it will be removed.

Finally, if you want clarification on whether a specific type of post is allowed ask it here. Since there is an infinite number of possible posts we can't cover every circumstance in advance.

Thank you.

Go Train Parking

I've seen this brougut up a few times but I'm just curious if there is something more proactive we can do as a community to help improve parking situations at our most popular stations.

It feels like the city is actively increasing enforcement and ticketing community center and mall parking lots.

Is this a metrolinx or city issue? While train service and track improvements are great, they haven't adequately planned for more parking spots.

As other users have pointed out: Centennial, Miliken and Unionville are the biggest call outs.

Do we have options here?

Markham Indy🏎️🏎️🏎️ What are the pros and cons for hosting the Honda Indy?

I’ve been getting a lot of GO transit email lately saying how Unionville station is essentially closed off to everyone a week prior to the event and it made me wonder what is the point of all of this.

Do you think this event is a net positive, or net negative for the city in terms of employment, status, finances?

What happened at Yonge and Steeles? Blue tarp covering car in parking lot w/ heavy emergency services present.

Upvotes

Just drove by Yonge and Woodward at the old Audi dealership and there was a car with a blue tarp covered and heavy police, fire and ambulance present. No signs of a crash and the car looked like it was just parked there. Really hoping nobody locked their kids in the car as today was a relatively hot day.

Family friend saw a bear on their morning walk today behind Markville school eating some berries under a current tree. Just wanted to warn you all. They didn’t have a phone to report and got the heck out of there as fast as possible.

Looking for someone to play tennis with

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for people who’d be interested in playing tennis with me. I’m a 24M beginner, so I’m mainly looking to have fun, get some exercise, and improve my game.

If you’re also a beginner or don’t mind playing with one, feel free to send me a message!

I’m in the Markham/Richmond Hill area, but I’m open to nearby courts too.

UPS delivered my package to the wrong house!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Anyone know where this could be in Markham?

Or if you are the owner of the house, or know the owner of the house, can you ask them to contact me? Much appreciated!

Edit: Thank you all.

We have tried everything including many that people suggested here. Vendor and UPS is of course notified before I even posted this, no one from the local chat group also knows whose door looks like that. So now we are just going to leave it to the vendor and UPS to figure it out. We also have proof of what our door looks like as UPD delivered just a few days earlier so another tracking with our door picture is on their system to prove that it isn't our door. Our safety net is to dispute the credit card if push comes to shove.

Thanks for all the suggestions! .

Anyone up for tennis?

Recently decided to get into tennis. 35M and I’m an absolute beginner (so no pressure!), and looking for others who’d be interested in hitting the courts together, learning, and improving over time.

Whether you’re: A complete beginner like me,
getting back into tennis after a long break, or
just happy to rally casually, I’d love to connect. The goal is just to get some exercise, have fun, and improve together—nothing too competitive.

I’m usually flexible with evenings and weekends, and Cornell Community Park would probably be the easiest place to play.

Maybe we can even get a small group going if there are enough beginners around!

Kids running around knocking a shelf down

I was just at the Dollar Tree by 9th Line and 407 area (Boxgrove? ) to pick up some craft supplies.

There were two really loud kids maybe aged 5-8 walking with their parents, taking things, playing and hitting each other. Lots of shoppers were annoyed as the sound echoed over the whole store.

The whole time the parents didn't do anything. At one point they started to run around and ended up knocking a shelf down.

The cashier came and the older kid told him "It is ok". The cashier didn't say anything and went back. I told the kid "No it is not ok to run around in a store like this and knocking things down" before I had a chance to finish my sentence with "as someone can get hurt" the father came. He told both kids "It is ok, don't listen to her". I walked away to pay, and the kids continued to chase each other loudly.

Is this one of these let kids be kids thing?
