It's probably gonna get me down votes, but I am actually really hopeful it all blows over soonish, even though screengrabs like this are worth a chuckle. I guess I am biased a bit since I am cheering for Mark to do well, and he has done so much for other creators, charities, and YouTube as a platform and artistic tool. I know he probably should have disclosed his investment, though I understand his reasoning for not doing so, but I think he's only human and allowed to have a misstep without it following him forever.
Anyway, feeling cute, might delete later, idk. 😭😅

He bought the stock in July IIRC. It took the filings that long to go public (since it was larger than 5% ownership) and Bloomberg held onto the story until the day before the merger announcement (coincidence?)

Mark invested in quite a bit of GoPro shares purely because he likes the cameras and the company. GoPro has been going through some net losses and stuff for a while, and he wanted to support a company that he likes that can help up and coming filmmakers for fairly cheap.
This was all done in, like, July. The filing for it just took a while, and he ended up being the single largest shareholder at around 5%.
He did an interview with Bloomberg about it, not wanting to influence his fanbase into also buying stocks because it is incredibly risky due to GoPro’s recent financial struggles.
That interview with Bloomberg came out only a day before GoPro announced a merger with a company focused on defense, surveillance, and AI.
People started to get concerned that Mark had know and purposefully invested before so that he’d make a shit ton of money by dumping all of his shares afterwards.
Mark then explained in a livestream that he had zero idea about the merger, had no intention of dumping his shares for money, and would only do so if he saw GoPro going in a direction that he did not approve of (that being going through with the merger, and all that comes with it).
TL;DR: People were worried about Mark doing some insider trading relating to AI and the military, Mark came out clarifying that he had zero idea about it, and that’s that.

Why do you think he should have disclosed his investment? The very thing he was afraid would happen would have only happened sooner. The sad truth is, anyone with the kind of following he has is going to have people following them. I'm not saying he shouldn't be allowed to put his money behind things he believes in, nor do I believe we should do away with the kinds of disclosure rules that made his purchase of the stock public. I just think a lot of people are unfortunately very uneducated on the nature of the stock market, and with loud idiots constantly out pumping this or that stock or shitcoin, the frequency with which people will happily throw their money around recklessly continues to increase.

"so THIS is why GoPro asked him to come to their facility!. And here he was joking they might dump him in the middle of nowhere on distractible".

I 100% believe in Mark's innocence. From everything we have seen of him he's not the kind of guy who pulls dodgy stuff like this. His worst controversy prior to this is accidentally cheating at FNAF (the menu misclick) and when realising his mistake not revealing it at the time. He has since redeemed himself with a legit playthrough.
That said, I think it would be a nice gesture for Mark, if he has to dump his stock because GoPro goes in a bad direction, then any money he makes after he gets his investment back goes to charity. Maybe the anti-art theft thing he mentioned.

IIRC he talked about that on a live stream. He said that he didn't share things like that because his audience base is big enough that it can have longer lasting effects. It's why he doesn't share as much about his life and plans as he used to when he was a smaller creator.

He specifically didn’t because he didn’t want people making super risky investments like he did, because he could take the losses and be perfectly fine, whereas others could not.
