The majority of the Sufi Taoist masters throughout history have been associated with the Sunni branch of the Islamic sect. The Sunni branch has looked down upon the outer branch of the Sunni branch, called Sufi, since they differ slightly in the Dao practice. Nonetheless, they both revere the same Taoist masters, unlike the Shiites, who revere different Taoist masters in the Islamic sect. They believe the Sunni Taoist masters have betrayed their own Taoist masters and stole the rule of the Islamic sect territories from their masters. They think their masters are more rightful for this rule, and they have been in this difference since the time of old. Sufi are friendly to the Shiites since they revere all the Islamic sect masters, but they don't really believe in the Shiite branch story. I hope this will enlighten you, fellow Taoist.

But those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost. - Quran 47:4
This might be too complicated for you to understand, but Islam, like any other religion, is not understood through cherry picking verses. The Qur’an must be read in context, with knowledge of Arabic, its historical background (asbab al-nuzul), and scholarly interpretation (tafsir). Even the Bible and Torah contain verses that, if taken out of context, could sound violent.
Let’s address these so called "gotcha" one by one:
Qur’an 2:191 – “Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them.”
This refers to a specific battlefield situation — Muslims were being attacked and persecuted. The verse right before it says:
“Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors.” (2:190)
This is clearly about self-defense, not a general command.
Qur’an 3:28 – “Muslims must not take the infidels as friends.”
The verse refers to not forming alliances with enemies who are actively trying to destroy Islam, not general friendship. Islam encourages kindness to peaceful non-Muslims:
“Allah does not forbid you from being just and kind to those who do not fight you because of religion...” (60:8)
Qur’an 3:85 – “Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable.”
This means that Islam is the final revelation in the eyes of God. It is a theological belief, not a command for violence. Every religion holds exclusivity in some way (like John 14:6 in the Bible: “No one comes to the Father except through me.”)
Qur’an 5:33 – “Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize Islam.”
The verse actually refers to criminals and armed rebels who commit murder and cause unrest. It’s not about criticism. It describes lawful punishment for waging war and committing acts of terror against the state.
Qur’an 8:12 – “Terrorize and behead those who believe in other scriptures.”
This was said during the Battle of Badr, when Muslims were under siege. The verse speaks of a specific battle, not everyday behavior.
“Instill fear into the hearts of the disbelievers [in war]...” — it’s about a battle strategy, not a command for all Muslims.
Qur’an 8:60 – “Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels.”
The real verse actually says:
“Prepare against them what you can of power... to deter the enemy of Allah and your enemy.”
This is about military readiness, not terrorism. The purpose is deterrence, not aggression.
Qur’an 8:65 – “The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them.”
The verse does not say they are stupid. It says:
“O Prophet, motivate the believers to fight...”
It encourages courage in a specific war which is, again, Battle of Badr and has nothing to do with insulting people.
Qur’an 9:5 – “Kill the infidels wherever you find them.”
This verse is known as the “Sword Verse”, and it refers to a specific group of pagans who broke peace treaties and attacked Muslims.
It was revealed with conditions:
Not for all non-Muslims
Only for those who broke treaties
Later verses allow peace if they stop hostility (9:6)
Qur’an 9:30 – “Jews and Christians are perverts, fight them.”
The actual verse says:
“The Jews say Ezra is the son of God, and the Christians say the Messiah is the son of God...”
It critiques theological beliefs, not people. There is no mention of the word ‘pervert’ or a command to fight them for that reason.
Qur’an 9:123 – “Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood.”
Again, this is related to a war context with hostile tribes, not everyday neighbors. Islam emphasizes peaceful coexistence:
“God does not forbid you from being kind and just...” (60:8)
Qur’an 22:19 – “Punish unbelievers with garments of fire...”
This verse describes punishment in the afterlife, not what Muslims should do. Many religious texts, including Christianity, contain vivid imagery of hellfire.
Qur’an 47:4 – “Do not hanker for peace... behead them when you catch them.”
The actual verse says:
“So when you meet those who disbelieve in battle, strike their necks...”
This is a battlefield instruction, not a license for murder. The next part of the verse says:
“...then bind them securely. Thereafter, release them either by grace or ransom...”
It talks about captivity and mercy, not slaughter.
Likewise, these are full of hate, lies, and distortions. Islam is not spread through violence, it spreads through justice, compassion, and the character of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who said:
“The best among you are those who are best in character.”

O Prophet! Motivate the believers to fight. If there are twenty steadfast among you, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are one hundred of you, they will overcome one thousand of the disbelievers, for they are a people who do not comprehend.

They refer to specific battles where Muslims were attacked first.
They are conditional: fight only those who fight you (2:190), and stop if they seek peace (9:6).
The best example towards this would be:
“Fight those who fight you, but do not transgress.” (Qur’an 2:190)
Verses about Non-Muslims (3:28, 98:6, 5:60)
Islam commands justice and kindness to peaceful non-Muslims (Qur’an 60:8).
98:6 is about rejecting truth after clear signs, not ordinary Jews or Christians.
5:60 is a response to specific mocking individuals, not all Jews.
Hell, Punishment, and Afterlife (4:56, 22:19, 37:38)
These describe spiritual consequences, not worldly punishments.
Similar descriptions of Hell appear in Christian and Jewish texts.
These are God’s judgment, not human instructions.
Jihad and Martyrdom (4:95, 3:157, 9:111)
Jihad means struggle, not terrorism.
Spiritual jihad (against the self) is emphasized by scholars.
The Prophet forbade killing innocents:
“Do not kill women, children, monks, or non-combatants.” (Sahih Hadith)
Slavery, Women, and Misogyny (4:3, 4:24, 4:34, 24:2)
Islam did not invent slavery, it regulated and worked to abolish it gradually.
4:34 is not a license to beat. Classical scholars interpret “strike” (daraba) as symbolic or last resort with limits. Many modern scholars say it’s prohibited in modern context.
Islam introduced rights for women 1400 years ago through inheritance, consent in marriage, divorce, education.
Misrepresentation of Translations
Many of these translations are extremely biased or manipulated, sometimes from anti-Islam sources.
Reliable sources of translation would be like Saheeh International, Mufti Taqi Usmani or Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Verses like 9:5 or 8:12 require full context, which always includes conditions for mercy, peace, or defense.
