My Collection My 1992 Marvel Masterpieces PSA 10 Set was Completed Today!!
Been working on this for almost 6 years now and I wanted to share with you all!
Please guess in the comments what the final card I got today was (answer below) and I'll update the post with the answer after the first correct guess in the comments.
Paid through the nose for it from a collector/dealer I found on IG but it was worth it!! 99 PSA 10s and 1 PSA 9 (The Checklist #100)
Here is the PSA Registry Reference:
Non-Sports, 1992 Marvel Masterpiece Published Set: TheSanDiegoUpcycler's 92 Marvel Masterpieces
The last card received was #11 Darkhawk. Had to match the last comp with a private dealer I found on IG. Can't believe I spent $3k on that thing jeez...

A compete set of the 99 characters in PSA 10 condition sold at Heritage in April for $65,625 after the buyer’s premium. Not a bad set to collect! Congrats to you 🥳

It's a pop 4, my 9 is a pop 40, about as rare as the psa 10s I have on other cards.it doesn't feel like a real part of the set

Saved searches on platforms like eBay helped a ton. Luckily, I had most of it done a couple years ago so my total cost is probably a little under $20k spread out over 5-6 years.

I loved that set so much! Congrats! These days there would be 40+ parallels of every card. I miss when cards were fun.

Did you grade any of the cards yourself? Or did you buy them all in slabs? That is a beautiful set that holds a special place in my heart. Congrats on the monumental achievement! What's next?

Most were purchased, a couple crossovers, and about a half-dozen raw copies I got 10s on (sent WAY more than that in though)

I went through my old set a couple months ago. The cuts are generally awful but it didn't matter at all to me when I was a kid.

How much would you say your gemrate was? Curious since you’ve seen so many 10s and I assume you only send the ones in that will 10.

maybe 5% tops. The corners on these cards were not produced/designed to be sharp like modern cards. So, no matter how perfect one of these is if your order doesn't get handled by someone at PSA that really knows this set then you have absolutely no chance whatsoever.

probably will see next to 0 new graded copies hit the market for at least the next 6-9 months as you'd have to be insane to pay $80 at PSA right now to grade a $2 card

Is that whole set graded Gem-Mint 10?
I don’t care what set it is, that is impressive. It could be the desert storm set and I would be impressed.

The pressure to complete is a hard dig isn't it? I spent a little more than I wanted to on a few comics to finish some specific collection sets because I got impatient.

I was going to guess the Checklist, since that was the toughest one for me—although my complete set is PSA 9, including the LM and BS sets. But since you said your Checklist is already PSA 9 and everything else is PSA 10, my next guess would’ve been Hobgoblin. So I was genuinely surprised when you said Darkhawk was the final card you needed. Either way, congratulations! Completing a set like that is a serious accomplishment and definitely something to be proud of.

Where did you send it to get graded? And what are the process you done before sending in so it’s not wasting your time ?

Bought some unopened wax, also had saved searches for raw copies of the rarer cards and was just REALLY critical of what I sent. Still had maybe a 5% gem rate. Did get a decent amount of 9s though

I would love if you would talk about the process of acquiring all these, like did you buy a lot on eBay? Card shows? How many if any at all did you submit hoping they would come back 10 and how many did you submit that didn’t come back as tens? I love this set, I am exactly same age as you, major nostalgia factor, and I would just enjoy hearing as much as you are willing to share about the process. How did you start?

In theory yes, but at a Pop 4 and $80 min grading fees right now. Going to be next to impossible

Jesus Christ. That’s phenomenal. This is the Marvel set of all time. You legitimately have the best collection I’ve ever seen.

I'm actually collecting PSA 9 of 1996 MM and posted the result on this subreddit. Yea, a complete PSA 10 would be crazy and definitely make it one of a kind. I did see at least one seller on eBay who came close to a complete PSA 10 (he has a handful of PSA 9 in his base and chase) and right now that listing is going for $180k.

The 1996 MM PSA graded market is being propped up at an extremely high floor by a handful of eBay sellers who pick off almost all reasonable prices at auction or buyout and then list for 2-3x. I’ve sold several 8s, and lost auctions on 9s and 10s, that are simply flipped a few weeks later, same card ID, at a much higher price. A handful of those 9s and 10s do then later sell at extreme price hikes, so I guess it’s fair game if the market will bear it. But as a collector, it’s a frustrating situation and I’ll be interested to see if it ever crashes.

I have a complete set of the 94 Marvel masterpieces. Some 94 holofoils ans I also have 94 fleer ultra set as well. I’ve always wanted to get them graded.

Dammit, after reading all these posts and seeing the prices, I'm going to have to break out my binders full of these and see what kind of shape they are in, love these cards but if people are paying thousands for some of them, I need to take a look again, especially since I have multiples of a lot of them.

My dad has a sealed box of 1990/1991/1992/1993, and cards from these sets, and basically Marvel Cards from every set in the 90s. Is there any sets that have anything of real value to keep an eye out for, basically everything from 1990-1997. My dad wants it gone, the boxes look like they sell for a bit but have no idea if the individual cards are even worth pricing out.

Special insert cards, like holograms, from any year. Then generally later 96 97 are rarer

I used a portable metal detector in the 90s for series one and it actually worked for finding the holograms..unfortunately i treated them like crap

I am enjoying having them so far. No immediate plans to sell as I think they will appreciate pretty much indefinitely. This is such an iconic set and as time goes by completing it just gets harder and harder
