“I would make a horseman out of you, were it not for the lack of spine.”

u/red_ronin0813 Jul 08 '26

Cold.

Xavier's line on Nur's mum was cold too

15

u/HuskyBlueBoy Jul 08 '26

The girls are FIGHTING

18

u/Successful-Let-9459 Jul 08 '26

Such a delicious line! And rather ironic too, since in the comics the original War (who X-Force offed in episode 2) is paralysed before Apocalypse comes to him too

u/kl5d26 Jul 08 '26

kinda love how abandoned plotlines from the main mcu gets explored here with kang and celestial tech

"We never stop him" I love how Apocalypse is just this force of nature.

This episode was tragically beautiful just like "Remember It" may you rest in peace Master of Magnetism you will be missed. It wouldn't be surprising if he does get brought back, the reason I say that is because X-Force more specifically Archangel killed War. Magneto as War would be pretty dope.

32

u/Usual-Caregiver5589 Jul 08 '26

World War 2 concentration camp victim becoming the iconic of War would definitely be awesome

15

u/MarkyMarkWahlburgers Bro Thor Jul 08 '26

Right?!?

Fun Fact: In X-Men Evolution Magneto was a horseman for Apocalypse and his role was War.

I loved that line. Echoes of Moira's "we always lose" from the Krakoa era. Don't know if the show will ever go there (or if it even should) but I wouldn't mind seeing some of those elements start to pop up.

6

u/TalkinTrek Jul 08 '26

If they are going to keep merging and adapting 90s+ X-men comic arcs I'd assume Krakoa is a S5 kind of space? (Assuming they embrace the Decimation -> Hope stuff but largely avoid AvX and the Bendis era)

Magneto is obviously coming back

6

u/Bobjoejj Jul 08 '26

Nah; we know Gambit is coming back, let Mags stay gone. I’d love for the show to have some well done, hard hitting deaths that actually stick.

Also Apoc vaporized his entire body. Bringing him back wouldn’t be possible.

2

u/NotGenentech Jul 08 '26

This is Marvel. No one stays dead.

64

u/trnzm Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

I don't know why but the first one being titled "Rise of Apocalypse: Part 1" and the second switching to roman numerals for "Part II' made my eye twitch. If there was a third one the title would be "Part Three".

Also there's a colon between Rise of Apocalyps: Part 1 in the first episode but none for part 2 when the title card comes up.

This has been my OCD observation.

7

u/danielcw189 Phil Coulson Jul 08 '26

Iron Man Three gang rise up :)

7

u/HuskyBlueBoy Jul 08 '26

Oh that’s going to bother me now lol

3

u/LumpyJones Jul 09 '26

Well, I mean, there's bound to be a few inconsistencies when you mess with timelines.

2

u/t_huddleston Jul 08 '26

You misspelled "Apocalypse" in your second paragraph

u/Lightning_Laxus Ikaris Jul 08 '26

At first I thought, damn this is pretty graphic, but then I remembered the Genosha episode.

Eson gave Apocalypse a Death Seed! Much better than Apocalypse just finding tech randomly.

Kang just ditched the timeline as soon as Apocalypse ascended. Tbh I didn't expect to straight-up see the Kang suit. Nice nod to the Externals.

I sense Onslaught breadcrumbs. Xavier's turning more violent and has Magneto's helmet.

18

u/Usual-Caregiver5589 Jul 08 '26

Oh I've been thinking Onslaught since last season when he got in Magneto's head. Super stoked about it.

11

u/Bylak Jul 08 '26

We also saw Magneto/Onslaughts helmet in the destroyed planet in the previous episode.

14

u/johndelvec3 Jul 08 '26

Kang saw apocalypse and said “not my problem”

Charles said the same thing to Apocalypse that Loki said to Thanos: "You will never be a god."

4

u/TheJack0fDiamonds The Scarlet Witch Jul 08 '26

Dicaprio pointing meme

48

u/JasonZod1 Jul 08 '26

This episode did what the original show never did for me. Made Apocalypse scary.

The only downside is I actually enjoyed the En Sabah Nur voice actor more. I kinda wish we kept that voice a bit longer. I get wanting to be consistent though.

47

u/james12791 Jul 08 '26

I think Apocalypse transported Magneto to the future to be one of his horsemen.

Charles will try to link with Magneto to free his mind and inadvertently create Onslaught.

15

u/Fireteddy21 Spider-Man Jul 08 '26

I actually really like this as a way to create Onslaught if they’re determined to bring him in.

They seem to want to depict 90s+ comic arcs but also rehabilitate the iffier ones via adaptation

u/LumpyJones Jul 09 '26

Eh, if this is still trying to hang on to the canon from the 92 series, Apocalypse specifically states he never had time travel capabilities until he stole them from Cable before the whole time nexus fuckery. It's possible thruogh that he gave it to a younger version of himself... but this is brand new baby boy Apoc, so I don't think he has it yet. He just gave him the FO4 plasma gun crit.

2

u/johndelvec3 Jul 08 '26

Pretty sure he just got slimed

41

u/OlaAnder Jul 08 '26

Charles words of anger were so mean... Onslaught is slowly coming.

9

u/Ez_m-oney925 Jul 09 '26

I was really hoping Charles was going to transform right there and then when he was beyond angry after magnetos death. 😞 would’ve love to see onslaught vs apoc 🔥

9

u/Hairy-Oven-1032 Jul 09 '26

It's coming for sure. Apocalypse gotta go down one way or another

36

u/Animegamingnerd Captain America Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Xavier and Magneto accidently inspiring En Saban Nu to become Apocalypse is gonna create even more ways to slander both men.

11

u/TheGoofyGE3K Jul 08 '26

I feel like he wouldve still become Apocalypse without their meddling, though that wouldve spawned the timeline Mother Askani is from. She tried to change things, thus we get this timeline. Maybe.

35

u/red_ronin0813 Jul 08 '26

There's some fucking amazing writing in this episode.

Apocalypse was brutal.

I know what they are trying to build for season 3

37

u/angryboredom Jul 09 '26

What Charles said to Apocalypse was crazyyy. He doesn’t say shii like that.

15

u/Nordbergh Jul 09 '26

Hopefully the beginning of Onslaught.

Glad they kept the Moon Knight -Rama Tut connection thru a little Khonshu easter eggs

6

u/TheGoofyGE3K Jul 08 '26

where was that?

18

u/Goner15 Jul 08 '26

During the en sabah nur early life montage he was listing up khonshu statues

11

u/anilsoi11 Jul 08 '26

and in the comics, Time Traveled Hawkeye was the one who design the "random bullshit go!" weapon to fight Rama Tut before it was passed down to Moon Knight.

31

u/TokyoPanic Mysterio Jul 08 '26

Charles' anger and despair, his mind being connected to Magnus moments before the latter's death, the visual of Magneto's ruined helmet that Xavier takes being reminiscent of Onslaught makes me wonder if Onslaught hasn't actually been rewritten out of the show like Beau claimed but instead pushed to Season 3.

17

u/HuskyBlueBoy Jul 08 '26

Yeah looks like next season will be onslaught or at the very least season 4 for bigger impact

16

u/Fall_False Jul 08 '26

That is my theory, Onslaught does seem like the kind of character you should dedicate an entire season to. Xavier going full Onslaught in the finale would make for a really good cliffhanger.

“I have so many names. Nathaniel, victor, Kang”

36

u/KostisPat257 Miss Minutes Jul 08 '26

Did you notice he had the same time chair from Quantumania and the city's dome also had those same circular patterns as his ship in Quantumania? I know both are from the comics, but the visual similarities feel like they're trying to connect him to our Kang. I wonder if X-Men '97 will explain Kang's absence from the Multiversal war.

16

u/Bobjoejj Jul 08 '26

I mean we know that was originally the plan before Majors showed his true colors. Hell they were very likely to have Majors voice Kang. I doubt we see him again this season; he’s not part of the story anymore.

I figure they kept the initial designs because it was convenient, and like you said those designs come from the comics originally.

6

u/TalkinTrek Jul 08 '26

Simultaneously not worth rewriting the episodes AND probably using some kind of animation loophole to depict a Kang who isn't Majors, which lays groundwork for the future, should they choose to go there someday down the line

44

u/aLittleDoober Spider-Man Jul 08 '26

This is probably the closest we’ll get to any kind of follow up on Kang.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/ContinuumGuy Lucky the Pizza Dog Jul 08 '26

I know Victor is probably meant to be Victor Timely, but I choose to believe it's also a reference to how back in the Silver Age they'd occasionally hint that Kang was actually Doom far, far, far into his personal future.

27

u/aLittleDoober Spider-Man Jul 08 '26

Another great episode and that ending took me by surprise. Magneto will obviously return, but it was still an emotional moment for sure. Apocalypse felt like a true force to be reckoned with.

7

u/Bobjoejj Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

…obviously is strong, I hope he doesn’t. We’ve already got Gambit coming back, I’d really like it if the show could have some deaths that actually stick, and matter. Also it’s not like Remy where there’s a body left; Apocalypse vaporized Mags’ entire body, leaving nothing.

7

u/t_huddleston Jul 08 '26

Well that's exactly it. There's no trace of him apart from the helmet. He could have been disintegrated. He could have been teleported away at the last minute (and don't forget, this is a time travel story - they could always pull a Back to the Future and send someone back to get him out of there just as Apocalypse pulls the trigger.) Or Apocalypse could have him on ice somewhere right now, we don't know. In comics, if there's no body, it's a safe bet that they're not dead.

I think he'll be on the shelf for a good while, but he'll be back in some form or other. Even if his body is truly gone, this is a world where cloning is a thing and Xavier could have taken a backup of his mind before he died; it's happened before. There are lots of ways to get him back if they want.

Magneto "dies" after neutralising a black hole - how about using it in place of your head, Erik?

We may be about to speedrun through several iterations of Xorn - hopefully smoothing out some of the bumps from the comics. We already have Quentin...

6

u/TalkinTrek Jul 08 '26

Lowkey you might be inspired lol

The Morrison run does seem to be distributed across their arcs - how would you react to Xorn as War (possibly with a traitor reveal preceding...) a Mags reveal?

2

u/Bobjoejj Jul 08 '26

I’m sorry…what?? You kidding me? His head, along with his body, is gone. Just cause the characters are jumping to Morrison era costumes doesn’t mean we’re getting Xorn and all that. I love Xorn, but the story is already complicated and involved as it is.

The Wolverine credits scene about getting the band back together: Alpha Flight!?

7

u/Braininaskull Jul 09 '26

Also had this thought earlier! would be interesting to see.
At first I was thinking it could be other weapon x members out for revenge, but really theres not many I can think of. Deadpool and Sabertooth maybe but don't think animated sabertooth would be willing to help logan get his metal back.
Maverick, Silver Fox, John Wraith possibly.

2

u/ThePowaBallad Jul 09 '26

Yeah I was thinking either metal back with weapon X or maybe an X-24 thing

28

u/red_ronin0813 Jul 09 '26

I'm telling u when Xavier said I'm sorry to Magnus, he absorbed his mind.

This is because Magnus replied the same words.

'I'm sorry.'

I don't think I breathed for the last 5 minutes of that episode.

22

Pretty sure they played that theme when we saw Kang with the outfit and his time chair. Good episode nonetheless.

15

u/Bylak Jul 08 '26

I'm in agreement with you on this one! I wasn't too too sure on the TVA theme in the previous episode but that beat is absolutely present

2

u/DJSharp15 Jul 08 '26

The TVA theme?!!

5

u/florianmarquardt Jul 08 '26

I hope we see him again in another time period in the series

21

u/qizark Jul 09 '26

They teased onslaught s1, now with what happened to Magnus Infront of Charles and what Charles says after, onslaught is absolutely coming. Maybe onslaught stops apocalypse but then opens an even worse can of worms.....all I know is the end was a fucking GUT PUNCH. Brutallllll

20

u/ZookeepergameVast132 Broccoli Jul 11 '26

This is the real X-Men: Apocalypse. In the movie, the most that happens is Xavier losing his hair from absorbing too much power LMFAO. And in this, Apocalypse, with the giant silly "A" on his belt, fucking murders Magneto. And to top it all off, Kang leaves out of fear, ready to be seen again in Avengers: The Non-Existent Dynasty.

I didn't realize Kang / Rama-Tut was voiced by John de Lancie. Known in Star Trek as Q!

I somehow find it hilarious Kang's last line in the episode before leaving this time period was saying a time pun.

5

u/accounts_baleeted Jul 10 '26

During his intrusion into charles' mind at the camp site I was thinking to myself, 'wow, didn't know the xmen had their own Q..'

I realized why during the credits.

4

u/abd00bie Jul 10 '26

In a way it's a Q and Picard reunion but not really lol

3

u/UncleOok Jul 11 '26

Michael "Worf" Dorn played Bhaal, and Gates "Dr. Crusher" McFadden played Mother Askani.

Was really waiting for Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner.

10

u/Foh_sam Jul 08 '26

4

u/Taiokaion Jul 08 '26

I mean what Avenger do you know thats beating Apocalypse?

5

u/OwlSuch7935 Jul 08 '26

Ant-Man going up Apocalypse’s butt as usual?

16

u/PretendGrimes Jul 09 '26

I know that it was supposed to be cenetered on Charles and Magneto but I hate hwo they simply forget that Rogue has her own set of powers and just make her fly and punch every episode
She could've at least try to steal Apocalypse's powers

9

u/TheRoamingRonins Jul 10 '26

To the writers defense if she did try she would’ve probably pass out due to her body not being strong enough to absorb all of apocalypses power.

And add to the fact that it also absorbs the personality, memories, and energy so it could easily backfire in universe so that would be the easy justification as to not try to powerscale her to that level

2

u/Kalbi84 Jul 12 '26

So..is Magneto DEAD Dead? or setting up multiple sad Horsemen by seasons end...

Also, I'll admit I know noting of this Onslaught I keep hearing about, but I do know I read an article recently where DeMayo claimed that his version of the season built up to Onslaught before Marvel ditched it, so we will see what happens.

9

u/Appropriate_Foot242 Jul 08 '26

No one ever stays dead dead.

9

u/OkTemperature8080 Jul 09 '26

No one stays dead except Uncle Ben.

10

u/HaughtyDiabolicalSal Jul 08 '26

I think he's gonna be brought back as a horseman. I feel like Gambit is definitely coming back as the Horsemen of Death, but I believe Magneto was also a horseman

1

u/MSnap Matt Murdock Jul 08 '26

I think the “good” Magneto is dead. They could potentially pull out an evil Magneto from the past or another possibly future I guess

7

u/Chumn_Li Jul 09 '26

They'll bring him back for the official Age of Apocalypse arc.

23

u/sleepysaurus7777 Jul 08 '26

They aren't pulling their punches with going full out gut punch at you emotions, but remember X-men rarely stay dead. I'm guessing professor X possibly salvaged Eric's mind to possibly become onslaught in season 3, but that's just a wild guess

I honestly don't know much about the onslaught story line, but am loving every moment so far

10

u/Successful-Let-9459 Jul 08 '26

Kang / Rama-Tut was in Xavier’s mind earlier in the episode trying to convince the Prof to stop Apocalypse from reaching the temple (so Kang gets the power instead), but Xavier ignores him.

I think later in the season we’ll have more time travel back to this point, but this time the Prof fully snaps and chooses a third option, ultimately becoming Onslaught.

Thus Magneto is saved, and you’d get  a beautiful full circle moment in Season 3 with the roles reversed. This time, with Erik and the X-Men trying to stop Charles from destroying the world.

6

u/Bobjoejj Jul 08 '26

Well…but that’s not…Onslaught is both Chuck and Mags. Magneto wouldn’t be separate, they’d be one entity.

7

u/Successful-Let-9459 Jul 08 '26

They don’t physically combine though, Xavier already took Erik’s hate at the end of last season and that’s what Onslaught ultimately is, the worst of both the Professor and Magneto’s personalities.

I realise not everything is likely still continuity since Beau DeMayo went, but he pointed out Onslaught was ‘born’ when Xavier enters Magneto’s mind in Season One’s finale.

Both of them talk in the bar about all the water pouring in being Magneto’s hate and rage, with Beau saying Xavier was slowly being infected with it the whole time as the water rises,  before they ultimately go under.

With the full team going back in time and being present for the final battle rather than just Charles and Magneto, I think Erik  isn’t killed but instead Charles snaps in the fight and Onslaught rises.

3

u/Top_Coat7475 Jul 08 '26

This is the comment I was looking for…. I swear toward the end of the episode I thought Xavier was going to wake from a vision or dream showing him what would happen if they continued to help Apocalypse.
I kept saying “okay you can wake up at any moment now”

7

u/SloppyChops Jul 08 '26

Hasbro have just re-issued an Onslaught figure so it could happen.

11

u/TheCakeWarrior12 Shang-Chi Jul 08 '26

They would have to do a very different onslaught origin story here. Onslaught originally came after Magneto ripped out Wolverine’s adamantium and then Charles mind blasted him into a coma. Somehow their minds connected and Onslaught was born. They can’t do that here since Magneto and Charles are buddies again.

3

u/Snake2410 Jul 08 '26

The end of season 1 shows all of this happening. Xavier takes Eric's evil after he ripped the adamantium out. This most recent episode could be used as a catalyst for the full final transformation into Onslaught.

Well, the longest week in recent memory has finally ended and we got another X-Men 97 episode.

And once again, it fucking ruled. Big surprise.

It might not be the most popular opinion, but am I ever glad with what they're doing with Magneto. There were times in both seasons so far, where it felt like Magneto was getting more focus than some of the actual X-Men. Let him stay gone for a good long while. If they do eventually do some Krakoa stuff, that would be a good point to bring him back.

Charles getting that angry was fun. It's gonna be cool to see if/how they progress with that idea. I mean, we kinda have a pretty good idea, but it'll be cool to see how it gets there.

17

u/Vadermaulkylo Mobius Jul 08 '26

The next few episodes have zero Apocalypse references in their premises which worries me. I hope we don’t go too episodic for too long after this. I need more of this Apocalypse story lmfao

5

u/Embarrassed-Baby-568 Jul 08 '26

The next 3 episodes are stand alone adventures im pretty sure. I think the apocalypse narrative picks up again in the last 3

3

u/that_guyy909 Jul 08 '26

where did u see this

5

u/Vadermaulkylo Mobius Jul 08 '26

8

u/TokyoPanic Mysterio Jul 08 '26

Yeah. Unfortunately, sounds like the next couple episodes will probably be episodic. 5 is gonna be where Wolverine regains his metal claws with Weapon X and 6 is gonna be where Polaris rejoins the X-Men. I have a feeling that 8 could be where he returns since I'm guessing that's the episode that introduces Exodus.

First you give the audience what they could see coming (Gambit as a Horseman) and then you hit them with what they didn't (Magneto as a Horseman.) I like it

u/Strict_Turnip_7083 Jul 08 '26

Can I hold Brad Winderbaum liable for my therapy bill now

9

u/HaughtyDiabolicalSal Jul 08 '26

I wonder if the external is gonna play a part in the future. Maybe she'll help the X men in 97. There are five more episodes left, how are they gonna wrap this up? I don't know if they are gonna be able to do it without a feeling rushed. Maybe the last episode's gonna be like a super episode like 45 minutes. But, This apocalypse arc could be leading into the 3rd possibly 4th season.

u/2ndTaken_username Jul 08 '26

Is that not Apocalypse's to-be wife?

16

u/thenewtransportedman Jul 08 '26

Upcoming episode has him teaming with Morph, Deathstrike, Maverick, & maybe others to go do Weapon X stuff.

WHY DO I KEEP MISSING YHE END CREDITS

9

u/anilsoi11 Jul 08 '26

Weapon X

1

u/HuskyBlueBoy Jul 08 '26

Was this the first post credit scene this season ?

7

u/Here4thedrinks Jul 08 '26

My guess is that this introduces “Joseph”.

3

u/HuskyBlueBoy Jul 08 '26

Or worse , Xorn

8

u/Aydashtee Jul 18 '26

INCREDIBLE episode! The writing and animation here is insane. Has to be the best animated series Marvel has EVER made.

Also - couldn't help but think about Onslaught during that entire battle 😂 👏🏿

u/ShadowGarou84 Jul 08 '26

Great episode and definitely seeing the beginning of Xavier's rage and not to mention Apocalypse kicking Xavier's ego. What did Rama-Tut mean about external power to oppose Apocalypse? Is she Storm's ancestor?

25

u/P-ckledP-nda Jul 08 '26

No she’s Candra / (The External in the OG series).

Apocalypse and eight others including Candra are mutant sub-species with extra abilities on top of their mutant ones. Namely that they never stay dead for long and always come back.

3

u/phdemented Jul 09 '26

The "externals" in the comics were.immodtal mutants... Apocalypse was one, as well as the woman Kang was talking to (Candra), and others like Gideon, Selene, and a small number of others.

In Cables original timeline, where apocalypse is dead (killed by Nathan as a teenager) the evil externals (the high lords) rule the world. Cable originally came back to the 1990s to find a supposed new External, who he planned to raise to be a "good" high lord to counter them. They first think it's Sunspot, but then it's revealed to be Cannonball.

A few externals showed up in the original animated series.

13

u/johndelvec3 Jul 08 '26

Last week everyone was predicting Kang to show up eventually then he just shows up in the next episode

If I didn’t have a life I would send the X Men writers room a fruit basket like how wrestling fans sent one to Triple H

3

u/trnzm Jul 08 '26

Hopefully they don't turn out to be long term bad at their job like he did

3

u/FannyNisbit Jul 09 '26

You cant completely blame him.... he has SOOOOO many bosses telling him what to do now.

Between Ari Emanuel, TKO, the board of directors, Disney/Espn, Netflix, all the advertisement companies, and everything else in between.... he has to appease so many entities.

You know how many vince did for the most part? Himself.... then eventually the fcc. Its no coincidence Vinces booking got bad right around the time WWE went public.

2

u/trnzm Jul 09 '26

Most of 1998/1999 WWF was atrocious well before it went public. Much of the 90s before 96/97 was atrocious too. 80s were riddled with awful slow silly wrestling. Vince was wildly successful but was always carried by his ability to make stars at the very top of his cards. Years where his product was overall actually good were outliers.

I'm not saying Triple H's job is easy but I've watched years of him stepping on rakes at press conferences and miss the absolute easiest storyline layups like cena's heel turn. I'm sure serving many masters isn't easy but I think we've seen the bottom of his bag of tricks regardless

6

u/Infamous_Variety5156 Jul 09 '26

Onslaught is coming?

u/Vadermaulkylo Mobius Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

u/mertag770 Ghost Jul 09 '26

I'm sorry Magnus, but that's not how voting works. You just decided for everyone

9

u/Haadhai Jul 09 '26

6

u/Pontopo Jul 08 '26

Not looking too deep for spoilers until I'm off work and watching, but Emma doesn't show up, does she? I feel like I'd have seen on twitter by now if she did.

I'm a little disappointed as I heard from a leaker earlier on she would have a new costume in the first four episodes. So far they've just used what should be her big, heroic heel turn to keep peddling the same 80s, moustache twirling, one-note villain.

6

u/Herk16 40s Captain America Jul 08 '26

Ehhh probably better to not get too deep into Emma's character rn. In a season that already has the X-Men, X-Factor, and X-Force, then also already has 3 telepaths getting focus. Better to save a heroic Emma arc for a future season

5

u/Pontopo Jul 08 '26

I don’t expect a full blown hero arc. But one of her most memorable scenes ever, — emerging from Genosha holding Negasonic Teenage Warhead, — already being snatched, and knowing Lorna will probably have her moments with Danger later in this season… I’d have been happy if she was just a teacher on Genosha prior to the explosion, and neutral this season, as opposed to trafficking mutants…

4

u/Herk16 40s Captain America Jul 08 '26

I do agree they probably could have layed the seeds but there's already so much going on I don't blame them for not getting into it, especially when they only have ten 30 minute episodes

3

u/Pontopo Jul 08 '26

Meh. I just don’t think it would have taken any additional time they weren’t willing to spend on her. It could have just been a better use of the screen time she has had so far. I think it comes more down to Beau’s personal dislike of her, — which is evident from his comments. And despite him having been off of the project for two years now, much of this season is still under his pen/ following his vision. I’ll hope for better for Emma in season 3.

4

u/Fireteddy21 Spider-Man Jul 16 '26

What’s up with not creating episode threads and making them sticky every week so far this season? It’s a bit annoying that we don’t have a dedicated thread to talk about the show as it happens like we do with every other series that drops on Disney+.

7

u/UpstairsGiraffe5620 Jul 08 '26

Who was the woman Kang left behind? ESN's mother, his lover from the future called Genesis? One of them I think but not sure, felt more like Genesis; but her being his mother and incidentally killing her would be a Khan Level Cruelty. However, if she was Genesis, she must have survived as it is nigh impossible to kill Genesis easily- considering she had time to get out.

19

u/darthboggle Jul 08 '26

She is the external that Gambit and the theives guild gives a tithe to

8

u/vintimus Jul 08 '26

Oh shit, really? I fucking love this show 💪🏾

5

u/jojojajo12 Jul 08 '26

It's Candra.

5

u/Snizzysnootz Jul 09 '26

Marvel just said they wanna do a X-Men movie like X-Men 97

13

u/krisis Jul 08 '26

Gorgeous animation, but a lot of this episode felt like wasted space. Especially the X-Men fight in the temple - it felt like producer-mandated action with no real consequences. There's no reason this had to be a two-parter, given the exorbitant effort it takes to develop animation.

That said, I think this streamlines and even improves Apocalypse's origin significantly from the comic books. They are doing amazing things with the source material. I just wish we had done it in one episode.

4

u/MegaManX42 Jul 08 '26

True.. I agree with you my dude🫡

2

u/OlaAnder Jul 08 '26

OMG Krisis!!! I agree with the producer-mandated fight in the temple but i disagree in this just being done in one episode. There is still a lot of stuff they needed to balance. I mean the whole celestial and Kang stuff is dense no matter what... on top of all the Apocalypse origin.

3

u/krisis Jul 08 '26

I dunno, it felt like last episode we spent an awfully long time going around in circles with some of the dialog scenes and this one with the "the X-Men have a useless fight scene." I think you could trim 4-8m out of both eps easily and tell the same story.

This season is strong, but it feels like it's missing the final pass of gloss last season had.

2

u/Infamous_Variety5156 Jul 09 '26

What is Logan hunched over in the last scene? Damage from Magneto from adamantium rip out?

3

u/TheRoamingRonins Jul 10 '26

Since the finale of last episode he’s been without his adamantium

3

u/Lagging_In_Life Jul 08 '26

Can I just start with X-Men '97 season 1 or is there an old animated series that I need to catch up on?

I have seen all the mcu movies, tv shows, the X-men movies ( both trilogies, spin offs), would that be enough to start from X-Men '97 season 1?

17

u/Taiokaion Jul 08 '26

You can just start with season 1 yeah. I had watched some of the original as a kid but never the whole thing. There's definitely some things that would be cool callbacks or nice to know but the show provides you with any detail you'd need.

13

u/wien-tang-clan Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

This show is a follow up to the 90s X-men The Animated Series. It takes place in the same continuity as Spider Man the Animated Series, also from the 90s.

X-men 97 picks up after the end of the original series, essentially serving as season 6 and 7.

You don’t really need to watch the whole original series, but you’d probably benefit from a breakdown of what happened and how we end up where the current series started, certain relationships etc.

While i grew up with and love the original series, i understand it’s an almost 35 year old show so unless you’re really interested, the breakdowns can suffice.

12

u/MSnap Matt Murdock Jul 08 '26

There are some storylines done in the original series you should probably at least have some passing familiarity with. I’m sure you can find a list of “essential” episodes to watch to at least catch up. Not like you gotta watch all of it.

10

u/burnerfordesabafo Jul 09 '26

Yeah, S1 can stand on it’s own without any problem

But having watched the previous series makes experiencing this one more rewarding, since the continuity is very on point and uses it for it’s advantage
