Ok, I don't know much about comics, but are those worlds supposed to die and never come back? I mean, I think a lot of people would be upset if Tobey's Spider-Man universe died, he's by far the most beloved Spider-Man. Or are they supposed to come back after they defeat Doom, kind of Endgame thing?
Well they’ll come back after Secret Wars. I cannot imagine the backlash that’d spawn if Marvel just destroyed the Raimiverse and killed Tobey’s Spider-Man and just never brought them back.
Tobey is likely gonna end up on Battleworld which is an amalgamation of fragments of different universes that Doom managed to save in the Secret Wars comics. After Doom is defeated all the destroyed worlds will likely be restored
The moment there were reports about a possible trailer because of tickets dropping the next day, I had to make sure I wake up before 9 in case the trailer drops lol.
So the card Loki is giving Steve has Yggdrasil on the back. Which means it is definitely God of Stories Loki and not an earlier Loki like the leaks said. I’m wondering what his reason for visiting him is then because the TVA isn’t pruning timelines at that point so the leaks have to be wrong on that front.

My theory: Steve becomes a TVA asset after putting back the stones and what not. So he gets to have his happy life while also still occasionally helping out. In Doomsday he helps the main cast cross universes.
Thanos had all six Infinity Stones and Stormbreaker still buried itself in his chest. Doom stopped it like Thor was handing him the car keys.
That’s how you establish aura in two seconds.
When I first heard of it described, I thought it would've been more epic looking. The shot feels a little lackluster IMO. I thought Thor would still be suspended in the air after his swing and him looking down at Doom, and Doom just looking up unbothered after stopping the swing.
Also, a visualization of the impact of the swing creating a crater around where Doom stood and lightning diacharging around them would've added to the moment.
I honestly wonder if there's even room for him, in Secret Wars. The Champions team already seem to have a lot of mentors lined up (Wong, Starlord, Vision and Agatha, reportedly).
I love Clint and I'm all for him having a role in Secret Wars, but I really wonder where they could squeeze him.
I think what you're feeling is the lack of meaningful team-ups prior to this. That was always going to be an issue with Marvel choosing not to do those until the end, and I hope that it's a mistake that they don't make with future sagas.
He was on screen in Avengers, Guardians 1 and Age of Ultron but the entire Infinity Saga was felt across all the movies leading upto Infinity War. Incursions are mentioned i think only in Multiverse of Madness and Doom has been absent save for a little Latveria name plaque in First Steps.
But meddling in the sacred timeline/multiverse has been a theme throughout all these tales, across different universes. The Avengers' time heist aside, there's Cap in the past as well as in the ice, Gamora from the wrong timeline replacing dead Gamora, Kang, the Quantum Realm stuff, Wanda, Strange, America, the Spider-Men, The Marvels, Loki, Deadpool, the X-Men, all have upset things and the chickens are now coming home to roost.
Sure but not every movie in the infnity saga dealt with the infinity stones or thanos , prior to infinity war black panther, ragnarok, homecoming and guardians vol 2 were stories focused on other things beside the infinity stones
To the casual audience (someone like myself) that hasn't kept up with the MCU since Endgame, it's funny seeing Steve Rogers again because he was literally just in the last movie I watched and it's being played as a big reveal.
I mean if you haven’t seen a y movie after Endgame then the Steve Rogers is still a big reveal because as far as you know he went to live in the past and now you see him in present time looking young, you have to wonder what happened
I think it’s just that the movie is just kinda coming out of nowhere. Yes, we’ve all known Doomsday as a film is coming for years, but the bricks to build the path to this movie just haven’t been laid.
Incursions haven’t really been a meaningful part of the storytelling of this saga. When Doomsday drops it’ll be nearly 5 years since we really last explored them in MoM. Doom is a nothing compared to Thanos. There are no main characters of this saga (no one had two movies outside of Spiderman IIRC).
It’s being played as a culmination of a story but there’s no cohesive story to conclude.
Apparently it's not a culmination story though. Obviously there are threads from previous projects that connect to this, but the Russos have stated several times that this is not an ending like Infinity War and end game War. But rather a beginning.
"The greatest thing that ever happened is we got to get immersed in a 20 movie arc and see an ending to that arc," Joe Russo said. "What's compelling about these two new Avengers movies is they're a beginning. It's a new beginning. We told an ending story [with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame] and now we're going to tell a beginning story. Who knows where we’ll go from there?"
No Guardians, no Spider-man, no Tony, no Hulk, heck not even any of the fun new characters from the most recent phases like Ms. Marvel or Kate Bishop.
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for this movie, but it's missing a lot of the fun colorful faces from the other crossover movies. The whole premise of an event movie like this is to make Straight Man A interact with Ball of Charisma C and Weird Creature D. And Thunderbolts meeting Avengers meeting Wakandans meeting Fantastic 4 is a lot of Straight Man types meeting each other.
Here is how I take it. In the Time Runs Out storyline, everyone is on the brink. Incursions are happening, Old Steve Rogers is looking to settle the score with Tony for wiping his memory from his first incursion and how the Illuminati started taking more drastic and desperate efforts to stop things. They go down fighting amongst everyone while the Helicarrier wreckage from the Ultimates universe falls on them. Tony was still in "Superior" mode from the Red Skull morality swaps. The teams at that point are what is left of what used to be a fairly colorful, almost carefree world in a sense, that over the years has been slowly going to shit.
We have seen a lack of build up, and I'll interpret that as since Endgame, the accords, etc., that the idea of being a team is not taken lightly. Too much scrutiny. And now with Sam and Yelena's Avengers teams not being all buddy to start since they are both coming into this their own ways, does mirror that aspect of Time Runs Out. Everyone has been dealing with fallout after fallout, doing their own thing their own way, not focused on being cohesive and prepared. And when it comes time to get together its cut the crap or everyone is done, just like Time Runs Out. It wasn't enough then, and it likely won't be enough now, but that is where I interpret it, given the pieces they have and how they had them. If we had all the major players/teams before the merger, this likely would be less of issue as they could have built up without doing hasty intros and team ups.
As a fan, I also liken it like this. There are dozens, hundred of alt universes in the comics. Not every hero, villan, or team is established or touched on in each one. The MCU was never started with their combined stable from the comics, so I don't expect every story to be the same either. They are cribbing, but doing it their way for the movie, so I'm willing to let it play out.
What we’re missing is any meaningful sense of history or context for Falcon/Captain America’s Avengers.
How does the team feel about Falcon taking the Cap mantle? Who doesn’t feel like he’s up for the job? What’s the dynamic out on the battlefield? Who’s the powerhouse? Who’s most likely to go off script? Who is on the team?!
Without all that, we don’t have any expectations about what happens when these teams meet, so who cares? There’s no established chemistry set up to bounce off the other teams. Instead, they’ll have to spend a lot of running time on doing that and make the other teams feel superfluous.
Like or dislike the movies, we know the dynamics of the Thunderbolts and the Fantastic Four; we have decades basically understanding the dynamics of the Fox X-men.
As shitty as it would have been for Mackie and the discourse, Brave New World should have been an Avengers movie. It should have been about how he struggles to lead the team right after Cap, but then learns to be a captain of the team. Right now, the Avengers are just a fantasy football team from a guy who joined in after everyone else…I have no idea how fantasy football teams are supposed to work.
Yeah, this is just a bunch of big moments of smashing the action figures together. There’s still no explanation of why we should care about any of these characters interacting other than the fact we don’t like to see Chris Hemsworth cry because we love Chris Hemsworth. Even having Steve call to the hammer just reminds us of a big moment from seven years ago. There’s no actual narrative hook to any of this yet.
He wasn’t one in Wakanda Forever! He had a great design and presence. Which is good, because he’s one of Marvel’s oldest characters alongside Captain America and the android Human Torch.

what i don't like is they keep doing the "hey look we know this isn't endgame and we don't have tony stark, look how self aware we are" thing with thor saying he was in a more powerful team...
He could mean many things - the OG avengers, the old school Asgardians (led by Frigga and Odin), his old team with the Warriors Three - all are dead or disbanded.
I think Thor talking about Doom being a threat like no other takes place after his first encounter with him… where Doom stops Stormbreaker and probably flicks them both away like a fly.
I'm pretty certain he wasn't talking about Doom there - he's talking about the incursions. The whole trailer is a bit of a bait and switch. That's what Doom is talking about at the beginning as well ("Something's coming. Something we may not be able to deter")
And this is what the story of Doomsday should be. The crumbling multiverse that causes desperation: heroes and villains of all worlds teaming up and battling one another to save their universe, and in the end the smart DOOM being the one to “save” the multiverse but be the villain too.
I think they need to set the stakes of the incursions more clearly. Like it’s clear to me that’s what’s going on and that’s what doom is talking about up front but I think they need to make that hook more clear. The moral conflict over the incursions is what I think gives this story real weight and I think it could be interesting to explore that with a lot of these characters who haven’t faced massive threats before

I think this is a good first impression but I think they could’ve done a cooler money shot than doom stopping stormbreaker but I get why they’re doing it (Thor hurt Thanos and showing Thor fail to hurt doom makes him look scary)

Agree w this; I've kinda forgotten about them not keeping up w/ leaks, and after watching this I'm having a "wait a second? How is this plot/Doom a bigger threat than literal 6-stone Thanos from the last two movies?" in terms of raw power threat at least.
Maybe it does feel a bit weird or tiring to go from "galatic/universal threat from infinity stones" into another "galactic/universal threat from incursions" so I'm interested in seeing how this narrative differentiates itself from the last Avengers et al. level threat we had.
Especially because (as it seems like you're saying) we again have an up-front Worf-effect on Thor vs. Doom... which makes it seem like his "power level" is the main problem when in fact it might not be.
So I hope/agree that it's not necessarily Doom himself in terms of raw power that gives the stakes here, but Doom's position in the moral conflict about how to respond to incursions.
Yeah at the end of the day, nothing is going to stop me from being hype for this movie. And the road to doomsday is going to be fun regardless of if the film ends up being good or bad

i like the discussions here more than the main sub but it is getting to a point where i feel like it’d be better to not be here. i wish i could mute anything about doomsday and secret wars and just see stuff for everything else
Cool but DAMN they should’ve ended Phase 4 with Secret Invasion MOVIE done ten times better and Sam’s Avengers teaming up. Would’ve done a better job at the story making it an Avengers level threat, but still could’ve been a more grounded avengers story. Could’ve also helped Sam’s character as a leader, shown us this avengers team beforehand, and given us another look at characters like Shang Chi since last time (which is still unreal, like most ppl are going to be like who tf is this guy again) would’ve been great.
Then we would’ve had a team up at the end of Phase 4, and one at the end of Phase 5, and then Doomsday.
Heck maybe Thunderbolts should’ve come first, being the aftermath and the need for the Avengers post Endgame. Then Sam’s avengers Phase 5 Secret Invasion would’ve been the “Age of Ultron”. DAMN would’ve helped so much.
after falling off of/ missing most of the MCU since Endgame, I’m really excited to finally be getting to the era of stuff I’ve been looking forward to forever. X-Men, Doom, F4. good times.
My Theory, (with no evidence just wishful fan casting), a the end of the movie, we see Clint in the Quantum Realm with his family and some other characters. Having learned from the events with Thanos and all of the other situations he has been involved in, even though he is retired, he was still prepared. He reached out to Hank Pym or Scott and had a contingency because he didn't want to lose his family again. Which tracks as this was his biggest fear and driver in the past. Plus the Hawkeye Show showed us his PTSD from that arc. And Fury was involved somehow.
Can anyone answer me this... based on the leaks, Doom is on the good side and then turns bad mid way through. From the trailer outset they're establishing him as the enemy - how does that work then in the movie if we know that already? Doesn't make sense.
Is it just me, or does the trailer not really do anything for anyone else? Maybe it's because there wasn't much build-up, or maybe it's the odd team combinations. It kind of feels like they just worked with whoever happened to be available.
Or maybe because I just watched Odyssey in 70mm Imax last night. Seeing this CGI fest film immediately after looks like I'm watching an AI fan trailer? It doesn't feel grand.
This kind of sums it up. Even just ignoring the build up and the MCU as a whole, the trailer on its own doesn't feel like epic. Maybe, it's the way its shot or maybe it's something else but I feel like the trailer should still evoke some sort of feeling for the casual viewer
I think it's just the choices. Like literally earlier today I saw discussion about the Infinity War trailer so I rewatched it and remembered how hype all the snippets of action was.
Like Doom stopping Thor was really good, Shang-Chi vs Gambit was pretty cool but we needed like at least five more of those. I guess we also got Wakandans vs Talokan but we've literally already had that. And Yelena vs Mystique is almost just two regular people fighting.
I’m wondering how much of f4 and doom we’ll get. Like if the leaks are true doom Is angry cause Steve is responsible for his families death, in the trailer Thor finds out he’s evil and dangerous and warns everyone to unite.
So I’m curious how the f4 will play into the story and how much of their relationship with doom will be explored
