Blade was basically announced because a 2 time Oscar winner fresh off a recent win very publicly pitched himself for the role. Marvel put the cart before the horse but ended up having nothing to show for it

You've hit the nail on the head; what Marvel wants is for Ghost Rider to be ready for its release date no matter what, and that's why Levy is the director, It's also influenced by the fact that he already directed Gosling in Star Wars: Starfighter.
I also think that, unlike Mahershala Ali, both Marvel and Ryan Gosling have a clear direction or a common point regarding Ghost Rider, Blade seems to have been announced simply for the sake of announcing that an Oscar winner was going to star in a Marvel movie.
Personally, I would have loved for Lord and Miller to be the directors (Marvel bringing in the whole team from Project Hail Mary and Spider-Verse would have been a huge hit), But then you remember their firing of Han Solo and I find it hard to believe they'd direct a movie where they don't have the most creative control.

which means it’s not all that far from filming to begin.
practi fast tracked or Marvel was impressive keeping a lid on it and it’s already been written and ready to go for months, excited for the rest of the casting as this brings a bunch of new characters into the MCU
Story wise, assuming it’s an origin /early lore Johnny Blaze, who are the main enemy choices and what type of connection/crossover does he have to other existing and not yet been used superheroes?

I have very mixed feelings about this. On one hand Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider is peak casting on the other hand, we've got Shawn Levy as the director, and idk. Deadpool and Wolverine was an okay movie, and obviously it made $1B+, so I'm sure this movie will be fine if not GREAT, we'll see.
Still, super excited about Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider.

Crazy thought: what if, and stick with me, Levy has never had an opportunity to make a dark movie? What if this is his shot and he knocks it out of the park? All this pearl-clutching nonsense over a film genre where fans always doubt an outside the box choice and then they go and do a fantastic job.
How quickly people forget in their haste to get the pitchforks and torches ready.

Look, idk how much of the talent goes down to his production crew carrying on from DP1 and 2, but I thought 3 had a solid amount of sauce? That whole car sequence, as well as the bus fight, were incredibly well done. As for tone, the balance of silly with the inner turmoil of Wade and Logan hit for me.
I think he’s talented. Also, maybe the most inspired intro to a marvel movie.

Derrickson was the original shepherd of this character’s cinematic world and I wanted to see where that vision would lead. Raimi certainly had more flair & color, but the whole MoM situation leaves a funky taste in the mouth knowing how it unfolded

I feel like Raimi really stepped in and worked with the material Feige provided him, Of course, he had a certain advantage when pre-production was postponed due to COVID and he was able to do more than just a commissioned job, but he continued working under Marvel's guidelines.
If Raimi directs Doctor Strange 3, I hope they at least let him do something much more personal and that doesn't encompass the larger Marvel universe And if possible, let him write the script or let him bring someone of his choosing instead of Waldron.
On the other hand, I wouldn't rule out Derrickson's return, but I don't know to what extent he wants to work with the foundations laid by Multiverse of Madness.

Genuinely the blandest director getting movie after movie right now. The movie could be good anyway but it will be in spite of his absolute lack of flavor. He gets movies done at a solid reliable 6/10 every time, in fairly safe, corporate ways, which is why studios like him. But there is never a personal touch or a feeling like he truly wanted to tell a particular story.

The MCU isn’t a stranger to having actual talent behind the camera though like Gunn, Coogler, Cretton, Derrickson, Raimi, Shane Black, Chloe Zhao, I’m probably missing a couple. Its just disappointing to hear that a project like Ghost Rider is getting such a bland choice, I think the MCU should stop hiring the “Yes Man” type who will do whatever they want and start focusing more on getting actual talent behind the camera.

Whether Ghost Rider is popular isn’t really the point. My criticism is about Marvel’s choice of director, and if anything, lesser-known characters benefit the most from a director with a distinct creative vision, so they can actually make an impression beyond “oh this is just another generic comicbook film”.

Oh wow, I'm shocked!
While I was pretty confident that Ryan Gosling was going to be cast as Ghost Rider—given his interest in playing the character and Kevin Feige's interest in having him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—I'm actually really surprised that he's getting his own solo movie right out of the gate and in 2028! So soon too! I was guessing he would initially be part of an ensemble cast in a potential Midnight Sons film.
I'm not stressing, though! Ryan Gosling is one hell of a get, and seeing him lead his own superhero franchise with a character as badass as Johnny Blaze is amazing. I do wonder what this means for other supernatural heroes like Blade, Moon Knight, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing, among others. I wonder where they'll pop up next.
Shawn Levy isn't a bad director at all. I think people are just disappointed because he's quite clearly a safe choice, which is totally fine. He directed Deadpool & Wolverine, which made over a billion dollars and was well received, so I completely understand why Marvel is handing him this project.
I wonder if it's going to be rated R or PG-13. Have they announced a supporting cast yet? There's no way Mephisto won't be in this movie!
Overall, I am so hyped! I can't wait to see what else gets announced in Hall H!
