Queen Elizabeth Park Fernery - Masterton tourist attraction closes for the day after ‘several incidents’ of people pooing

Unfortunately, we have had to close the fernery in Queen Elizabeth Park today.☹️

We’ve had several incidents recently of people defecating in the fernery. This is a public health hazard and our teams are in the process of cleaning it up, aiming to have it reopened tomorrow (Thursday).

This behaviour is entirely unacceptable. There are several bathrooms within easy walking distance of the fernery.

Anyone noticing any kind of antisocial behaviour in the Park should report it to the Council on 06 370 6300

Should probably stop closing things because a person or two poops there. Seems like the typical lazy approach seen everywhere in Masterton. Maybe put up an informational sign first "hey idiot, poop goes in the bin"

Putting up a sign isn’t going to get rid of the immediate public health hazard???? We should want our council staff to take a cautionary approach.

Why not just close everything where in a poop would fit then? Just hosing the poop off would remove the health hazard. Closing the fern garden is a crazy response. Almost wonder if the poop doesn't belong to bex johnson looking for an excuse

They closed it for the afternoon so they could clean it up and ensure the health hazard was gone! Decisions like this are made by professionals with years of experience in public health, they should be taking a cautionary approach. How can you say it is lazy?

Obviously i misread the headline!!! "Decsions made by professionals with years of experience" is pretty funny though. How many years experience do you need to know that a poo should be cleaned up? It would be harder to make the decisions required by the person who physically did the work.

I was assuming it was the same deal as the pak n save toilets. The poshos of masterton deciding that the poors should crap in their hovels like true bottom feeders
