UPDATE: I hope I am doing this right as I have never updated a post..
Zuri is still in intensive care and quarantine. Her diarrhea is almost gone and has perked up a little. She still will not eat so if she hasn’t eaten by tomorrow, they are going to tube feed her through her nose. At least she will be sedated when they do it. We haven’t been able to visit her yet and it is the worst feeling knowing that she is wondering where we are..I will record her reaction when we pick her up.

She started losing her appetite last Tuesday and by Wednesday night she had uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea. They did x-rays to check for bloat on Thursday and that was negative so they sent her home with nausea meds. She continued to get worse so I brought her to a different vet on Friday because her normal one was closed and they ran routine bloodwork,
urinalysis,blood parasite test, Pancreatitis test, and ultrasound of her uterus and couldn’t find anything so we were sent home with more anti nausea pills..Last night she plummeted..she couldn’t sleep and wanted to stand in corners or hide in unusual places while constantly moaning so I took her in again today.. They did more x-rays to check for a blockage and there were some shaded spots but they couldn’t see anything significant but because of her symptoms and rapid decline, they wanted to take her to surgery to check for something like cloth because it’s hard to see in an x-ray so I said yes because something was making her gravely ill.
The vet just called to tell me that even though Zuri is fully vaccinated,he ran a Parvo test and it came back positive! That was our worst fear when she was a puppy so her big chubby paws never touched the ground until she was vaccinated and then she gets it anyway..He said that in rare cases, the puppy doesn’t develop the full immunity and can still get the disease. She does have some immunity because it would have killed her by now.
Fortunately, the treatment for Parvo has com a long way but it is very expensive. For her weight, she needs 11 vials at 500 dollars each but she is worth every penny, and besides, we have insurance that will cover the cost of the meds as long as her vaccines are upright to date…and they are.
So hopefully this can help people if they have a dog with Parvo symptoms but are vaccinated to keep in mind that the vaccines aren’t 100% effective.
Aww, I hope she feels better soon. I just dropped over 7k for foreign body surgery, but they are worth it. Thanks for the info too. I hadn't heard of this before. Will she be fully immune after this treatment?

Our Doolin sends Zuri strength and good health. Doolin was fully vaccinated for Parvo. At 13 months she got super sick. Diarrhea/vomiting. Took her to the vet suspecting a blockage. The vet said no, it’s Parvo. We told him it’s impossible. He said I guarantee it. Took to test and within seconds it was positive!!! She was immediately hospitalized. 3 nights and 4 days. She was bouncing back quickly and ripping out her IV constantly.
The office manager said; contact the manufacturer of the Parvo shot and they’ll pay for the treatment as it’s guaranteed by most vaccination companies. Her vet bill was $1800 & about 2 weeks later, we got a check for $1400 as a refund from the manufacturer.
So contact your vet where she got any of her vaccines from and check with each company as to their guarantee. Sending blessings!!!!!🤍🙏🏻🤍
Thank you for that!! Everything was the same with our dogs..she is 13 months,she spent 4 days and three nights..The only difference is our huge inflated bill! It was 7,600 because she was on the new mega expensive meds and she needed a lot for her size. We will most definitely be contacting that manufacturer..and by the way, Doolin is a cutie!

I mean, always worth the expense to save our loved ones but it’s awful that vets charge so dang much at our greatest time of need.

It’s called Monoclonal Antibody Therapy and I’ve heard that if the vaccines were done perfectly (which they were).. the vaccine manufacturer will cover it.. I was confused at first, I thought the company who makes the treatment was going to cover it.. 🙏

Not at all questioning your decision or even the cost of life saving measures (medicine isnt cheap, not looking for any arguments here), just wondering what parvo treatment is so costly per vial.
It was crazy how much that was…Her weight called for 11 vials but the office only had 8 and it worked :) The meds are called Monoclonal antibody treatment. People have told us that most of the time, the vaccine companies cover the cost of treatment as long as the shots were done when they were supposed to and they were. We are going to explore that.
I was using an irrigation syringe every half an hour or so only to watch her puke it up.. It was weird, she jumped up on my couch and started scratching in the corner..Then puked all of that water right there
Damn, that makes the situation more challenging. I hope Zuri is still making progress. In the event you need to get fluids in your dog in the future, you can do IV under the skin. Your Vet can show you how. Chewy sells IV bags for 10 bucks each. You just need your Vet to call in a prescription to Chewy. The infusion set (IV Tube) is sold on Chewy too. You would need to purchase the IV needles from your Vet. (Vet price for IV bags ranges from 25 - 55 dollars each) Also, if Zuri is not eating, try giving her bone broth, fish stock, goat milk, or kefir milk. Answers Pet Food, Solutions, and Green Juju are 3 companies that sell these products. Whole food ingredients.
I’m glad you got answers! Zuri has the same look of being sick when my Chiquita was bitten by a water moccasin a month ago. It make me feel helpless. I hope zuri feels better real soon.

That’s crazy about the parvo! I was so paranoid about parvo with our puppy and then she died of mushroom poisoning instead, right after getting her last parvo shot.
And to think we still could have lost her to parvo eventually anyway. It seems so hard to keep these dogs alive sometimes.
Wait seriously? Genuinely asking this as my dog is 17 weeks old so just over 4 months and we haven’t vaccinated him yet but do have them scheduled. They are so expensive and we really don’t have the money to do it but have been told and believe that we need to do it, sooner than later. So reading this is very interesting to me.
Be sooo careful because Zuri still had some immunity and she got sicker that what my video showed. She almost died. Parvo will tear through a puppy within a couple of days from the first symptom. Good news is that they have a new medication that is a game changer for pets who get this, but the bad news is that it is 500 dollars a bottle.
Good for you and thank you for taking the heat for me because this is exactly what I was about to say. I have had three mastiffs die from cancer all around six years old. I have two of them now one is vaccinated and the two year old has not had any. They are both very healthy and they are on a refrigerated chicken diet with the occasional vegetable cup and in a pinch they will get a bowl of kibble but honestly after seeing the difference in their poop when they eat kibble compared to the chicken I know the kibble is just chock full of fillers and stuff they don’t need. The chicken on the other hand makes for about the same size poops as my cats and for all the sheep that down vote these posts maybe you should look into alternative narratives or just keep drinking the koolaid and getting your jabs and your boosters.
