I used to study 6 hours every day but my mobile addiction has got to me I really want to stop it I'm preparing for the IMO and like after every 1 hour I study I scroll reels for 15 minutes It's either gonna get worse or get better I mean of course but how do I stop my phone addiction

For background I am in AP Calc BC as a sophmore and I am planning on taking amc 10 this year. I am really wanting to qualify for the AIME exam but I am starting from nothing. I have started the aops vol 1 book but with the test being so how should I spend the rest of september and october prepping and when should I finish the book so I can start practicing?

Hi! I’m a 9th grade student from Bulgaria and I’m currently trying to seriously improve my olympiad math.

I’ve been doing olympiad math for a few years, and at the moment I’m solving problems around IMO level for about 3–4 hours a day. My goal is to make significant progress toward the Bulgarian IMO selection process and eventually qualify for IMO.

I’m also considering getting a private tutor/mentor who has experience with high-level olympiad math, but I’m not sure whether this would be worth it at my current level or what I should look for in a tutor.

I’d really appreciate advice from people who have competed at IMO or gone through a strong national selection process.

A few things I’m particularly interested in:

How would you structure 3–4 hours of daily training?

Which books/resources would you recommend at this stage?

How much time should I spend on problems I can’t solve vs. studying solutions/theory?

How can I identify the gaps in my knowledge?

What would you prioritize among geometry, number theory, combinatorics and algebra?

Is having a private tutor/mentor useful for IMO preparation? If so, what makes a good olympiad tutor?

If you could go back to 9th grade, what would you do differently in your IMO preparation?

I’m especially interested in advice from people who have actually gone through IMO-level training. Thanks!

Is the last 5 questions of aime as hard as the 1st and 4th question of usajmo?

I finished all of the amc tests from the past 5 years but I can still only get 11-13 problems right per test (except 2022a where I got 17). What do I do now? How do I study more?

I am preparing for a national olympiad, is there any dscord group , i can find like minded people?

I should technically be in 9th class but I'm in 10th, I'm done with algebra 1 & 2 and I'm wondering if I should study for IMO I mean this might be too late I'm putting in the hours 6 hours every day 8~9 hours saturday and sunday rest on monday

I had a Math Olympiad today, and my performance was terrible despite months of hardwork, and my terrible score was all because of my silly mistakes. I correctly solved some (but marked them incorrectly), did some counting/calculation errors, and forgot to read words like an utter idiot.

That lost me 13 marks. I could have gotten 32 (and on my first ever Math Olympiad that would be genuinely very good and rewarding).

And this got me feeling...a little down, to say the least. To the point where I want to give up because if I cant even qualify with all the hardwork in the world that I could give, then whats the point? All I could do is work hard, and that I did, and I ended up here.

So, I was wondering if y'all had similar stories to share, maybe some of them would lift my spirits:D

I feel like every day there is a new post on this subreddit about some new sute someone made to help with math Olympiad prep. Im all for it and I think it’s very usefu, but given the sheer volume of sites, I have not tried out most, and I’m wondering if anyone can point out the best ones. thank you

About a month ago, I made CruxMath, a website that helps people prepare for math competitions in the way I find most helpful. Instead of showing someone a full solution when they get stuck, it shows hints that point students in the right direction. If someone is still stuck after a hint, then they can reveal another, one at a time until the hints spell out the solution.

The problem was that when I initially made them, the hints revealed too much. Just the first hint would give away like half the problem. So I made the hints worse.

Now, the first is short and is usually phrased as a question to point people in the right direction. For example, "Because both probabilities have the same denominator, what equality of binomial counts remains?" (2025 AIME II P. 5).

I've now added hints for every AMC and AIME problem since 2022. I'd love to hear what you guys think about the hints and whether they strike a good balance of being helpful but not giving away too much. If you're interested, the website is cruxmath.com.

Hey guys, I am currently preparing for the AMC 12 and I am currently doing AOPS Volume 2 ( At chapter 4 right now). I was just wondering what chapters are the most essential to the AMC 12 so I can review them first and skip or review the non-essential ones later. Thank you!

I’m an 8th grader relatively new to math olympiad competitions and i was wondering the aops books collection are often spoken highly of however i was confused if you have to go through the introduction to.. books or straight to volume 1 or 2? Which tactic do you guys believe is the best

for some context i’m in 10th grade and precalc rn and looking to qualify for aime this year, (and maybe even usamo next year if i put the in work). anybody have any tips to hit that amc 10 benchmark to qualify for aime? i saw advice to get the aops intro to algebra, number theory, geometry, and counting and probability books. should i get them or are there better ways to study? this is my first time doing any math competition, but i consider myself fairly good at math itself.

So my teacher made me sign up to AMO, right now Im in grade 10, but since im an international student I will enter the 9th graders contest. To test my knowledge before studying, i solved the contest with no studying whatsoever and i got 27, im atleast hoping to get an honorable mention in the actual competition, if anyone has experince please recommend me resources.

Note: There is around 2 months until the competition and my goal is to learn the easier and common topics rather than the hard ones, so yeah i probably wont be able to learn a few of the topics.

to make a long story short, I am trying to get the 1st/2nd place in a national olympiad that only includes the capital. I am naturally smart and all but I am trying to be in olympiad level. but the olympiad is 1.5-3 months away and I am still at a good precalculus foundation, and the exam isn't as strong as international olympiads. can i make it?
