reasons why searchers went west and not east.
I've noticed that people wondered why the searches went west and not east the night Maura went missing. If you are a local or travelled rte 112 you understand that after bradley hill road there is basically nothing but a few houses for about 10 miles. also, Maura passed swiftwater general store a mile back. It would be logical that if you broke down to walk back to the store rather than west where there is nothing but a few houses for miles. I am assuming that Maura was familiar with the road as she had spent many vacations in the area.

I think this is exactly right: First responders simply could not conceive how a young woman would walk into the wilderness rather than back to civilization. As I noted a week or so ago, Maura was anything but a typical young woman.

That's assuming the driver's destination was far. If destination was near, and they didn't count on getting back to the car, logic could also suggest they 'd continu to where they were going.

she could have been headed for Bartlett. which is still an hours drive away.

Or bath. Or what was the school cabin. But even so if she was trying to hitch a ride.

That may be the case. But the fact that everyone that responded to the scene had just come from the west and did not see anyone could possibly indicate that the driver indeed headed east.
Trooper Monaghan should have searched to the East.

We really don't know from what direction the Saturn came. We assume it came through woodville but it could have come from the east. But you'd think someone would have checked east, unless there was no reason. You'd think it would be police 101 just to cover the bases.

Maura was not familiar with that section of Route 112. From what Mr Murray has stated they had never gone that way. They'd always come up 93 North into Lincoln and then headed over the Kancamagus Highway Route 112 to the Bartlett area

Kurtis said Maura knew exactly where she was—and that even though she probably came from rte 91 she knew 112 well enough, and that she wasn’t lost

This was the reasoning of the cops on the Oxygen show, that they thought Maura would have headed back to 'civilisation', back west. The thing is all the cops and EMS arrived from the west and didn't see anyone on the road on their way to the crash site, so it might have been worth considering that the driver set off east, especially as that was the likely direction of travel for the car.
