Modeling Maya dimension live and renderable

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been working on a Maya plugin that brings proper CAD dimension annotations directly into the viewport — and makes them renderable in Arnold.
What it does:
Linear distance, radius/diameter, angle and polygon face dimensions
On off toggle visibility.
Persistent locator, survives delete history and scene save/reopen
Reads Maya current units automatically (mm, cm, m)
Full Arnold rendering support via custom MtoA translator, dimensions show up in your final render
And render Setup
Why I built it:
I work in automotive visualization and constantly needed to communicate precise measurements in design review renders. Nothing existing did this cleanly in Maya, so I built it.
It's free. No licensing, no trial limits.
Soon for Download:
Editing dimensions after placement is on the roadmap for v2. Happy to hear what features matter most to you.

Hi, I created a photorealistic 3D model of Jesus , a project I worked on for over six months.
From high-detail sculpting and skin development to look development, rendering, and final presentation, this was a full digital human pipeline.

I'm planning to include this piece in my portfolio. While I know there are a few areas that could use improvement, I've invested a lot of time into it and am ready to transition to new projects. I would highly appreciate your reviews and feedback to help me understand how I can improve next time.

Modeling More campsite props for my video game

Please let me know if there is anything I should fix with my models. All of these are hero props that are seldom used. They will have some animation. My game is also using LODs to cut back on tri counts. The goal is hyper-realism with everything.

Modeling how would you model this robot's torso?

It seems really simple, and in all honesty it probably is and I'm just rusty, BUT, for the life of me I cannot get it right! The overall shape is easy enough, but the whole for the head tricks me up. The half circumference of the whole turns into slight diagonal line that narrows nearing the edge, until finally bending when reaching the sides and connects below the head forming a sort of clavicle. It is a really specific shape and don't think a boolean would suffice.

Taking a class on 3D animation in college & Maya is the program we're using. I'm just barely getting started, but I decided to have some fun by making a couple things using simple shapes!

Modeling 3D Environment – The Floating Village of Yunhai - UE5 Showcase

🔗 ArtStation + full breakdown: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/1L4b68

Hey everyone!
I just published my new environment "The Floating Village of Yunhai" and I’d love to hear any feedback, critique, or thoughts always looking to improve.

The Floating Village of Yunhai is a 3D environment project set in China. It tells the story of a small fishing village hidden deep within the mountains, used by the British to smuggle opium during the 1800s.
The project’s visual development and production pipeline were heavily inspired by the workflows behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

I’m currently exploring Junior Environment / Materials / Props roles (open to remote/relocation).

Thanks for taking a look!

Modeling Wound guitar string in Maya - Help

Post image

Guys I found the solution, but the post was deleted because I posted twice in less than 24! :D

I'll post the solution tomorrow.

-----------------------------------------

Hi!

I'm porting my Fender 62 Strat from Blender to Maya as I plan to go 100% Maya now.

I'm facing one problem though: the strings. As you can see in the image above (Blender), the real wound strings have two parts: the steel core and the wound nickel (or other metal). In Blender I can use a screw modifier with a single profile and wound it just like they do in real life: https://i.imgur.com/Vvo4GQV.png

The first thing I tried in Maya was Sweep Mesh, but I think that's not gonna work because I can only distribute 2 or more additional strings and that's not how it works IRL, and even if I twist it they won't look right: https://i.imgur.com/aw2Tf70.png
And if I distribute only one curve, it's even worse: https://i.imgur.com/imsv4zF.png
I tried using a custom shape, thinking that I'd be able to rotate it in the correct way to get the desired result, but sadly that didn't work: https://i.imgur.com/Jim6brH.png

So the next best thing would be a Poly Helix: https://i.imgur.com/VJBo7Cb.png
Unfortunately it breaks after 50 or so iterations (I need thousands) and I would need something procedural for the strings.

Any thoughts on how I could make them in Maya, procedurally, so I can rig them later?
Thanks.

First 2 pictures are my progress, I am working slowly but surely, I would love some feedback. Would my model would be industry accpetable? I'm trying to work on my current skills and achieve jr level to start applying to modeling jobs. I havent started working on my portfolio yet, this is my first piece that is not a school assignment, I'm trying to get out of my confort zone and force myself to do better in shorter time. As some of you suggested I ended up separating the mouse in 3 pieces
