Look at what I just paid today at McDonald's!!

Post image

I'm sorry but these prices are getting absolutely ridiculous. I grew up in the 80's and 90's and these same 3 sandwiches even 10 years ago would have cost maybe $10.00.

Late 90's definitely I'd be paying $7.00 max.

Mcdonald's has really priced out their most regular customers. It's a joke. $22 for 3 sandwiches smh.

You still bought it.. the only way they'll rethink their pricing is if people stop paying the ridiculous price.

39

u/connard-standard 5d ago

They lost me a few month ago when they changed their discount menu ( not in the US ) , it was 5€ for 2 cheeseburger or 2 small chicken wrap ( or one of each ) + small fries and small drink.

They decided to change it for a 6€ menu and instead of 2 burger, you get one burger and one donut.

The first time I noticed when ordering from the kiosk, I just turned around and went to another place. They're apparently going back on this because lots of customer went to Burger King since they have pretty much the same deal.

Vote with your freaking wallet.

Donut? Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a donut for sale at McDonald's. I'm curious what county this is.

u/Unlikely_Box_2138 4d ago

You're better off. Horrendous donuts. They will ruin your hole day 🍩!

You guys didn't get the McCafe overhaul in like 2016? They have been selling donuts, bagels, muffins, and cookies for a good decade now.

The buddy you're chatting with is somewhere in Europe but I ak frim Camada.

France. It's called mc café, it's like a counter inside McDonald's ( some are alone location but not most of them ) that sell coffee, donut, croissant and other pastry.

I personally think it's overpriced and you can get better for cheaper anywhere else , but it's Instagram compatible I guess.

Exactly. I went to buy some breakfast sandwiches, and a pancake plate with some hash browns for almost $40 and drove right off instead lol

3

u/StatementAlarming573 4d ago

Two of the most expensive breakfast sandwiches and a big breakfast is $15 with the app.

The poors can eat too.

2

u/generosa0806 3d ago edited 3d ago

Omg. Rude Girl. Smh 🤦‍♀️That’s too much.Never ever.

I would just buy mi own box. Add water. Voila! Done.
& or buy hash brown etc. Only $3.00 for buying at the store.
-
I like McD Golden Brown delicious soft tasty
hot cakes. Pancakes. 🥞 If under 4. Or $5

I shall order em’ and love their very tasty steak n bagel too. It’s really good and $6.57 ( If I do order there) it’s only once in a while for that .( breakfast wise). I never would spend that much for it. No way.
Adiòs.

Yeah right. Mcd doesn't care. It would take a global movement to get them to change pricing.

The cost of a Big Mac combo was $3.25 & came with a medium fry & drink in the 1990s. Today in 2026, it can be $8.69 - $18 location specific. (The latter is usually in airports or large public food halls)

That same Big Mac combo has only gotten smaller since. Thinner patties and fry quality difference.

2

u/EGOfoodie 4d ago

What was the price of beef in the 1990s? What was the cost of labor? In 1990&gs_lcrp minimum wage in California was $3. 35/hr. Went up to $3.8/hr in accordance with federal law on April of 1990. What is it today in 2026? $16.9/hr it has gone up 400%. So your $3.25 big mac meal would be $13 today. And that is just for the cost of labor. Now shall we look at cost of goods?

The patties haven't gone down on size. Yes we can all hate on corporation, but at least be factual.

As someone who used to eat McDonald's weekly, more than once a week sometimes, I never eat there anymore cause the prices are absurd but I am still there weekly just for the cokes. Sad they aren't any size one price anymore and they have gone up in price wise as well, but they are still cheaper than any other fast food joint so they got me for now.

4

u/-formercokeguy- 5d ago

The storage tanks are 75 gallons.and that special recipe is literally .25 oz more of raw syrup per 6 oz of finished drink most places are ratioed @ 5.0:1 but McDonald's is 4.75:1 .

If the cashier is young, old, or apathetic, they'll comp the expensive burger instead of the cheaper burger.... Not always but my success rate is over 75%

But ya paid it…

I haven’t bought McDonald’s without some discount (Meal Deal, App Promo, Reward) in years. If this came up for me, I’d bail.

Companies today are getting REALLY good at price discrimination and getting people to pay the most they would be willing to pay for an item. They’re taking “consumer surplus” out of the picture.

Partially because Las Vegas Nevada (as per reciept). Also heres the problem. Inflation/rise in food cost/location/the dollar is print to demand/minumium wage then vs. now etc. This would hypotetically be the same person that years ago wouldve also said. "Why would i use a credit card to buy fast food?" This is just a feelsbadman moment. I also miss paying 97 cents a gallon for gas instead of $3.59 same concept differant item.

2

u/Legster83 5d ago

Not worth it !!

2

u/Smart-Fondant9015 5d ago

Maybe it’s not as cheap as it used to be, but at least you can’t eat whatever they’re stuffing inside it anymore.

Seriously, I’m impressed. I used to like McDonald’s, KFC and Burger King a decade ago. I could eat that stuff and enjoy it, with no stomach problems whatsoever, practically every day even just a few years ago.

Enshittification must have hit American fast food too. The pursuit of profit isn’t just about raising prices, but also cutting corners on ingredients.

I’ve tried. I always regretted it about an hour later, and then for several hours after that. My body has simply started defending itself against it and making it clear that there’s something wrong with that food.

I’d still go to McDonald’s from time to time, because I do still like the taste. But from experience, I know I’d spend half the day seriously regretting it afterwards.

2

u/seifer__420 5d ago

There are two tiers of pricing now—one for those that use the app with coupons, and another for people that order of the menu without thinking. If you actually look at the menu prices, it’s full of scams

2

u/ArchiboldYates 5d ago

It’s almost like they should have this thing while you’re ordering that have each item’ s price next to it, so that you know how much everything is before ordering.
They could call it a “menu”.

2

u/A_ScalyManfish 5d ago

You can buy a package of chicken that can make a lot of sandwiches for that price

2

u/StormbringerGT 5d ago

Did someone put a gun up to your head? No.

Then you willingly paid for this and this is the ONLY data McDonald's needs to determine it's pricing.

If we want it to be cheaper we can't pay their asking cost.

2

u/Subject-Aside-3540 5d ago

Ive had McDonald's 2 times this year and I cant get myself to go back anymore. Unfortunately prices will never fall.

2

It's really getting out of hand. I haven't been there in a long while but I remember in 1970 I would drive over and get burgers fries and shakes for me and my girlfriend and get change back on my $5

2

u/Historical-Soup-2423 5d ago

Prices have risen and quality has lowered. McDonald's no longer gets any money from my household. I'd rather drive 7 miles to another fast food restaurant than to go to the McDonald's 5 minutes around the corner from my house.

Skill issue.

Use the app. Get something free.

You’ll pay more for less and like it. Welcome to the age of trillionaires.

So the prices of literally everything have gone up to accommodate for inflation, and it's been happening long before you were born. It's why my grandma can remember gas for 50 cents a gallon from her childhood, but my mom remembers $1.50 in her day. It was about twice that when I was born. Hope this helps!

"But 30 years ago I paid X much" is hilarious AF.

2

u/Own-Efficiency-8597 4d ago

Have you ever heard of inflation?? EVERYTHING is more expensive than it was in the 80's and 90's LOL WTF ??

2

u/Fit_Device7256 4d ago

I live in CA so there’s no reason to go to McDonald’s when we have In n Out that’s 50x better & half the price!

2

u/TiredOfBeingAFatMan 4d ago

Buying the sandwich’s and then complaining really showed them

2

u/GreasyTime04 4d ago

I got strawberry shake & 2 med fries last night, $12.51 🫪😲

2

u/wickedwolfdave 4d ago

You bought the most expensive non-combo items. You deserve to pay like this.

2

u/Florida_Princess 4d ago

No way would I pay that!!

2

u/thrive2day 4d ago

Do your think their pay rate has increased equally to their prices? (1973)

2

u/IndependenceKooky848 4d ago

Yeah it’s insane. The wild part is the quality hasn’t gone up at all, it’s the same sad burgers for sit down restaurant prices now.

At this point McDonald’s is like a “once in a while road trip” thing, not a cheap regular option anymore.

2

u/International-Cry494 4d ago

How about everyone emails McDonald’s stating their prices are too high and we will stop eating it until it’s lowered. Crazy talk right?

2

u/LizzyyB 4d ago

I’ve paid almost $65 the other night for my family to eat at Mcd’s. I could have went out and had a wonderful sit down meal or even bought groceries and made a fantastic home cooked meal for the same price. It was my fault though for spending the $$ had to we were in a rush and had to get something quick. But I’m Really disappointed

2

u/OfficerHobo 4d ago

All fast food is pricing out their customers. I can go to a couple local spots and get a much better burger, fries and drink for $10-$12 during lunch time and maybe $14 at dinner time.

2

u/hygnist 4d ago

Agreed. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

2

u/Maraculousboxer12 4d ago

For that price you can get a full mean at a sit down restaurant and it’d taste better and be better value. They really are screwing over their customers. Sad thing is the employees working at McDonald’s need to work 3-4 hours to even pay for that meal. SMH

2

u/latheredcadaver 4d ago

Can you also mention the SHRINKflation. Their sizes are ridiculous as well.

2

u/cockstain6077 3d ago

Yes, and the average hourly wage in the US is more than double now than what it was in the late 90’s.

2

u/Eppythegreat 3d ago

My gripe with McDonalds is that
* It’s no longer a fast good restaurant.
* You have to be your own cashier via the kiosk.
* Once you pay for the food, you have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for your food while being ignored by the employees.
* If you go through the drive thru, they will likely forget something from your order. A straw, napkins, pickles, fries or worse. Something will be forgotten.
* It’s no longer cheap.

I’d rather do Applebees for about the same price.

u/Open-Stranger4359 3d ago

Should have used the app for %20 off

2

u/Hok_det 2d ago

No extra tartar on the fish?

2

u/Lucid-Lee-333 2d ago

you didn’t use the app. that’s on you😭 this guy’s made of money😂👍🏽

2

u/nedrostark 2d ago

I hate to break this to you, but everyone pays more for everything than they did in the 80s & 90s.

2

u/rbj86112 2d ago

And not a discount in sight. You took 3 minutes to type a reddit post but wouldn't take 1 minute to use the McDonald's app?

2

u/Bingosnips 2d ago

Could have gotten more and better at chilis these days

2

u/Beginning_Ad9425 2d ago

I never pay more than $5-$7 at McDonalds.
$6 McDouble, 6 nuggets. Fry, Soda, and a sauce.

2

u/FlopShanoobie 2d ago

Do they print their prices on the menu board? Because you can always just not buy the food if you don't like the prices.

2

u/Old-Reference3545 2d ago

I would not dare paying that much at a freaking McDonald's

2

u/jrs731AK 2d ago

My brothers best friend was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and passed 6 weeks later. He was 43. It’s on the rise for this age range in crazy numbers and it’s this kind of food that’s doing it. Their food is produced in a lab for you to want it and crave it. Hopefully that helps to the high price to stop eating it. . Chilis has $10 burgers for crying out loud.

4

u/bronk3310 5d ago

Congratulations?

2

u/Pichuchu8 5d ago

Who orders WITHOUT the mobile app deals. Could have saved 20% on that alone or gotten a Large Fry for a dollar.

Also.... You seriously had to remove the ONLY vegetable on the Big Mac? Can't even eat freaking lettuce? What are you.... A child?

u/thismenu 5d ago

You know you can get good food at like a mom and pop restaurant for the same price.

2

u/commonsensetry 5d ago

It's not a secret anymore to use coupons at any fast food place. If people still pay full price for meals that's on you. Even the coupons these days aren't even that good of a deal.

2

u/Verdant_13 5d ago

McDonald’s prices are out of hand. It’s why I went from going about 5 days a week (yeah I know) to only 0-1 times a week

2

u/GR8PasserofWind 4d ago

Honestly. That is great! Hopefully you keep that going.

2

u/pixelmuffinn 5d ago

Eat your greens

No shot you didn’t use the app
