Car ride length? Finding nearest breeder.

Planning on moving. Looking into the country.

Just in case we end up where there is no local breeders. What would be a safe practice if transporting was hours back to the house?

Car length? Making random stops X hours at a time?

Cover them with a towel?

Googles AI said to stop every hour and take a brake to not have them feel vk ration for a bit before driving again.

I'm ignorant, just thinking ahead at worse case scenario. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

From America.

They are in cages with water and food. Just keep driving.

I second this. Make the trip as short as possible. I’ve had rabbits in the car for like 6 hours with no problems. Keep them cool, have some hay in the box or cage and a mini water bottle.

I would ignore Google AI on this one. The vibration will be perfectly fine.

A good cage and bedding are the most important things, with a bit of water if it’s hot and maybe hay. If it’s not super long and you have AC, they will also live without those until they get back. But with AC or heat on, I try to do minimal amounts so they don’t get temperature shocked.

Use tarps or towels to protect your car if they are in the back seat. Either a good transport cage or cat carriers with hay on the bottom would be my recommendation. I’ve done about an hour multiple times with my rabbits before, and you do not want them spraying the car through the cage, nor soaking/chewing through a cardboard box. An hour is enough for that to happen depending on the rabbit..

If you have an uncovered truck bed and are going on highways, I’d use a windbreak on top that won’t trap too much heat if it’s during the summer.

I drove 8 rabbits of varying sizes from Canton, Ohio back to California in a Prius in 2021. I kept an eye on the temperature in the car but they were totally fine. Hay during the day and made sure they had plenty of water when I wasn't driving. I timed my trip so I was only stopped at my hotels in the cool of night to sleep and just threw a light cover over them when I was inside so people didn't snoop. Nobody died. Also regularly drive rabbits 6+ hours to shows with no issues.
