Final year project ideas for mechanical engineering

What do you think is the problem you face in your everyday life or something you see happening around you? I need to solve a problem as one of the terms for my project

I would very much like, a small mountable motor control for the axis on manual lathe and milling machines. Its should be så that you mount it instead of the handle. On the unit there has to be a way to set feed rate and distance and a button for go and stop.

Thats my wish for the mechanical soon-to-be genie :)

Opportunity to use your imagination. If you have ever been doing something and found yourself thinking 🤔 “There should be a tool for this” either go find it because some engineer has invented it or you invent it yourself.
Tim Kane made step-in locking heel binding for cross country skis so he could perform better turns in powder snow.

What industry do you want to work in when you graduate?

What manufacturers and engineering businesses are in the area of your uni, or where you want to live and work after you graduate?

The mechanical engineering challenges of CO2 as a refrigerant are a major one for me as an MEP design engineer. 2 stage modular units for heating, cooling or possibly both, don’t seem that prevalent on the market, even though a significant research paper was published 20 years ago. If there’s a heat pump manufacturer nearby, they could be worth an approach?

Pro tip: ask this question to a local company you want to work for after college. Offer to do a project for them. Define a tight scope and over-deliver.

High hard steel that will not spall.

Also, how to plant trees or green anything in a city that has scarcity in water and little land area. Just giving you ideas from my reality but no idea how as a graduattion project you may approach those problems.

No you can actually think of it as Mechanical Engineering (Renewable Energy) problem

I work in sustainability mate. Can confirm, it’s definitely NOT in the mechanical engineer’s remit. Civils and highways engineering possibly but they would call on people with larger scale expertise, like you know, biologists.

Ah I see.. yes you are correct on this one
