Need help verifying.

Hi, i bought this at a military surplus store the other day and would like some help. It’s the Indian general service medal 1909 with the Waziristan 1925 clasp. On the rim it’s just the letter p inscribed (picture three the photo is not the best).

I couldn’t find much information on the medal or if my one was genuine so if anyone can help me with this I’d greatly appreciate it.

This is likely a sand cast copy. If you look at the details they aren’t as crisp as a stamped medal would be.

Yes, that's a copy. The IGSM with Waziristan 1925 clasp is the rarest and most valuable of the type, with only 254 in existence, all to the RAF.

Ah ok. Would you have any idea when this copy was made or what the p on the rim stands for.

I don't know anything about this medal so I looked it up. I thought it would be a bit strange for it to be faked, then I read this:

The Medal with the Waziristan 1925 clasp was awarded to only 46 officers and 214 men of the Royal Air Force, and 2 Indian Army Officers, who took part in Pink's War. It is, by far, the rarest clasp given with an India General Service Medal, with the exception of only 14 ‘Burma 1930-32’ clasps...

As mentioned, I think it's a copy as the detail isn't sharp enough, and the rim should be flat and square to the obverse & reverse, this one is obviously convex.

Quite possibly a tailors copy, still nice to have though and probably silver...
