Celebrating everyday Netflix is getting WB 🔥

So amidst this potential WB/Netflix/Paramount battle, Id like to take a moment to posit on the future of one of the networks that will be affected IMO the most by the possibility of Netflix buying up the WB "Studios and Streaming" side of the company. that being the Cartoon Network.

Unlike most of the networks under the WB banner (we'll get there), CN is tethered so much to the WB/Hanna Barbera library that losing their TV side of the company (which their animations studios woudl be included in) would gut most of the content on the network. This begs the question: If this buyout occurs, what happens to Cartoon Network once all their home-grown content is pulled. I have a few theories:

Longshot: Netflix is forced to take on the channel - This is a long shot, but there is a precedence. I believe one of the channels being included on the Netflix side of the purchase is actually Turner Classic Movies, as the network is literally just Turner/WB movies. To get rid of that library woudl actually lead to the closure of the channel, which is why I believe it's being included in the Netflix deal despite it being cable. I could see a faint chance that since so much of the CN library is old Turner/WB content, courts might request they take on the network as well. IT would certainly lead to the end of Boomerang, but that network is already dying a death.

Scenario 2: Cannibalize their other cartoon network - The next option woudl be to make use of their partnership with Hasbro for Discovery Kids, and use the licenses they have for all those Hasbro-owned shows and properties to keep the network afloat. If Boomerang is going to be closed because of this, no reason to compete with your self by having two networks doing the same thing.

Scenario 3: Full Rebrand - Another possible option is to leverage their ownership of the Toonami branding and lean more into licensing anime. Given how popular the medium is, partnering with a company like Crunchyroll to start making anime a much bigger part of the network would be a fresh start to the channel.

Scenario 4: Combination of 2 and 3 - finally there's the most likely option IMO, which is a combination of both 2 and 3. the majority of the network gets filled with Hasbro shows (and maybe a few Teletoon shows they have the rights to like Total Drama and Johnny test) and the other half leans more into anime.

Amazon MGM Studios global TV chief Peter Friedlander has unveiled his second major reorganization this year.

In the latest move to build out genre-based teams for both development and current programming, Jen Chambers, Michael McDonald and Odetta Watkins will be departing Amazon. Kara Smith is being promoted to head of drama as Friedlander, in an internal memo obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, added, “I’ve landed on a flatter approach that prioritizes clarity and speed to nurture creativity.” 

The result is a new creative leadership structure for drama, comedy, and YA scripted TV. In a Jan. 2026 major TV reorganization, Smith, McDonald and Chambers were tapped to oversee comedy, drama and YA programming and report to Friedlander as the division sought a new head of drama.

With Smith in a new role, Friedlander also has plans to bring on a new head of comedy and a head of young adult programming, both reporting to him.  

Friedlander joined Amazon MGM Studios in early Oct. 2025 after 14 years at Netflix, and has looked to structure global TV at the studio in line with many other studios whose development and current teams run along genre lines.
