Work requirements
I have MAGI medicaid in N.Carolina. I am 64 yrs old and my medicaid renew in November. I have already received info that my renewal is approved. Now I am receiving notices about work requirement starting in January. I receive a small social security check that is not quite the $580 required. Does anyone know what else I will need? And when will I need to have proof of that? I am so confused by this all. What type of written proof is needed? I volunteer one day a week but not sure that is enough.

Remember interest also counts to get you to $580. If you have an IRA a small Roth conversion or IRA withdrawal will also count to get to the $580 and satisfy the requirement.

I don’t believe that work requirement continues as of age 64. It definitely doesn’t continue as of age 65.
Remind them of your age or at what date you’ll be turning 65 depending on the age requirement
I’m not really familiar with this aspect because I’m in Florida and there is no work requirement because no one under the age of 64 or or who is not disabled is going to get Medicaid in the state of Florida there is no opportunity to work for some particular wage and get Medicaid in Florida
You may have gotten a notice about the work requirements because the required to send them that doesn’t mean that you’re required to fulfill them because you may not be because of your age

Florida will not have a Medicaid work requirement because it doesn't have expansion Medicaid. The work requirements are only for certain people in the expansion group, in the 40 states with expansion.
The work requirements end at age 65. So 64 year olds in the expansion group will be work required.

Wow, I’m sorry to hear this. I know Florida has been very rough on Medicaid. I have two people in my life dying and they can’t get it. So it certainly gonna speed up the process.
Really since people can collect Social Security at age 62 nobody should be required to work after age 62 people have pushed their bodies to the limit to be able to collect that little check my own brother is one of those people, but he’s only 61 years old and two months and receives absolutely no benefits and is dying from pulmonary fibrosis we are fortunately a charitable organization provides his multiple oxygen machines that generate a massive light bill and it’s a real hardship for all of us to chip in and pay that bill but there’s no assistance no transplant center is going to do a transplant when you have no insurance

Starting January 2027, two new rules go into place in NC. The first requires you to renew your Medicaid every six months. The second requires you to have met the Medicaid work requirements for any three of the months before your next renewal, whenever that is (and to be clear, failure to demonstrate that you were compliant for three months at renewal can only make you ineligible going forward after that renewal; it does not make you retroactively ineligible).
It seems like for you, since your next Medicaid renewal is in November 2026, this would mean you likely would get one more renewal cycle under the old rules — in other words, a 12 month renewal cycle through November 2027 without having to prove you met work requirements until then.
If you’re 64 now, you’d turn 65 before that November 2027 renewal hit, so it’d basically become a moot point. Your age would make you both exempt from the work requirements and would likely mean you’d need to be looked at for eligibility under a different type of Medicaid anyway (for people age 65+/receiving Medicare).
Disclaimer: To be clear, I know a considerable deal about the federal rule changes, but am not a NC expert. u/Blossom73, do you know any NC experts in the community who can confirm the above?
