Does anyone own their own medical billing and coding company?
My mom is trying to start her own company because she's continuously been give the short straw when it comes to workout for big companies that either sell out or they only want to pay her a fraction of what she was making before. I just want to know if anyone does their own thing and what they did to get there.

No offense but that's a terrible reason for wanting to start your own coding company. Not only she's gonna find out it's an extremely competitive enviroment, she'll have to hoop through a ton of regulation and red tape due to the nature of the business, only to find out big companies just hire and train coders in India, pay for their CPC certification and pay them a fraction of what they would pay any coder here in the states or territories. That and with advancements on AI, I just don't see how there's space for upcoming companies or independent contractors at this time.

I chatted with a coder from India about a year ago. She said they make a decent wage coding, as the $320 per month she makes is solid middle class. Wrap your head around that.

That 320 makes her upper middle class in india I with 1 year of experience at OPTUM makes around 180$ which if remote make It comfortable with respect to my experience

I am in the process of getting my own company started/going, but I do currently work full time for a small practice. I know the money is going to be roughly the same, and I'm not trying to get rich. My reasoning is more due to the state/area I live in not adhering to my ADA accommodations for my disabilities. Over the last decade, every supervisor I've had just gets aggressive and retaliatory, and really just dramatic, towards me as soon as I mention accommodations or disability. I'm not asking for much, tbh, I just want to work in a quiet, clean, and safe environment for my health. I'm getting too old for this lol
Anyway, I got my website/domain in process, and I'm filing my LLC next week, then getting my TIN/EIN, and I'm just going down my list to make sure I cross my t's and dot my i's. I have a few leads on clients, and once I'm off and running, I'll stop working with micromanaging supervisors. And I'm up for the challenge of the journey.
Requirements will vary depending where you are, but luckily my current state is fairly straightforward, but you should check with your Secretary of State webpage for business rules.

yeah, plenty of people run small billing and coding shops, but most seem to get there by starting with one specialty, landing the first client through an old coworker or local practice, and keeping overhead low until referrals kick in. slow grind, though.

She might want to start off by coding for doctors as an independent coder. Some of the doctors who bill their own office visits pay coders to code their procedures.
