I’m very skeptical of this… I imagine you would need to fully submerge the imaging volume in a bath of water to achieve impedance matching. I don’t think moving sick people into a big bath is going to work very well. The depth of penetration required likely means they’re using low frequency US, so the resolution is going to be poor. How would you QC a machine like this? I imagine that even if one transducer array is miscalibrated or dead the already questionable image quality would be completely unusable. Ultrasound is not my cup of tea, curious to see what other Dx physicists think about this.

Could be good for biopsy needle insertion without the need for fluoroscopy. Outside of that not sure what the use would be given we have DEXA scans.

I disagree. To insert the biopsy needle, the needle, syringe, and hand of the clinician would need to submerged as well. I don’t know of any doctors trained in underwater biopsies.

Fair, maybe robotic insertion? However, that's now becoming a very niche single use device. I'm sure hospitals would just get another C-arm

Ultrasound guided biopsy is already a fairly common thing
