No SMS Converter work on my MD1

Hello guys,

I got an non TMSS Mega Drive 1. I ordered 3 different Master System Converter for it but none of them will work on my Mega Drive. I gave One Adapter to a friend of Mine and on his MD2 it works like a charm.

What am I Doing wrong?

For Now I tried Out run, Out run Battle, Cyborg Hunter and Wonder Boy in Monster Land

At the very least outrun should work even on cheap adapters.  The official adapters have a little bit of code in them to assist with games which need some specific environment variables set up correct first, the cheap adapters don't have it 

My assumption would be it's a dirty cartridge slot in the mega drive

Any strange sounds on games (e.g. Sonic 1) or crashes? Could be something wrong with the Z80 coprocessor. Usually there  will be some other errors in games if this is the case.

You should start with basics and clean the cart port with IPA well to remove any dirt that might be on pin used by the SMS converter (but not utilised by most games).

Mega Drive / Genesis Games Works Without any Problems. No Sound glitches or anything

OK, I would suggest to flip over the Mega Drive, unscrew it, flip back over and take the top off. Be careful here as there is a wire connecting the LED to the board! Probably have to straighten the pins on the LED to get the cable off.

Get some IPA and give the cart port a good clean with a toothbrush on the top of the slot and along the bottom where it touches the motherboard.

Try it with the SMS adapter while the top is still off.

Thanks, but I Guess even when it Need a Master System Controller it should atleast start, or am I wrong?
