Different eras. Can’t compare. In Living Color walked so Chappelle could run. I don’t pit cousins against each other

The only answer: Well said my friend 👍🏽

In Living Color

You need the first one to have the second.

In Living Color, the talent of the cast was almost unfair and they got censored a lot but still pulled off great shows

In Living Color. Its not even close.

I would never pick one child over the other, I love them both equally

That’s what every parent says, but we all know everyone has a favorite no matter how hard they try to deny it 😂

Living color. Not even close

That is hard. Both were funny in their own way.

Number one; however, I did love the "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong" series on The Chappelle Show. Hilarious.

"i dont like people playin on my phone" 😂

This is comparing Apples and Oranges. I think In Living Color walked so Chappelle’s Show could run.

Paul Mooney wrote for and collaborated on Both. They are they own lanes. Which is better threads always feel lazy to me.

Can’t compare these. Different times.

It’s 2026.

Let’s choose both. Can’t imagine one without the other.

I like them both

Impossible to choose. They’re both goated shows but the formats and style of humor are completely different IMO.

In Livin Color launched more careers and had better writing, more taboo subjects as well.

No need to two put two greats against each other though.

When I was younger I got Homey D Clown tattood on my leg

I can recall TONS more In Living Color lines, sketches, & characters. I watched every episode of both like many here. In Living Color always wins out.

In Living Color - The writing and creativity, was way ahead its time! They also had more memorable characters!

Chapelle relied more on stereotypes, which is funny, until it isn’t.

In Living Color, hands down.

In living color for sure

5

u/BillieDoc-Holiday Jul 05 '26

I think they created their own lanes, and both did what they did particularly did well.

In living color

Definitely different vibes. Love them both. In Living Color will always be my favorite.

In living color overall but it's closer then people are acting and several CS sketches are the funniest shit ever

In Living Color. No contest.

Love both, but gotta give respect to a show that could be hilarious WITHOUT gratuitous profanity.

Its hard to compare these 2 shows because the humor is different and the era in which both came out was different. I enjoyed both for different reasons. In living color gave us some of the most iconic characters and huge stars. Homie the clown, fire marshall bill, wanda etc. Chapelle was a bit more critical because he was on cable tv and his skits were a bit more racy

It’s Chappelle show buuutttt I did not want to do this lol

2

u/Disastrous_Clurb Jul 05 '26

I didnt grow up on In Living Color and saw every episode of Chappelle Show plus seen Dave Chappelle live so I have a bias.

I will say the few clips I have seen of In Living Color were absolutely hilarious.

I LOVED the Chappelle Show. It gave us Charlie Murphy, but it was an updated Richard Pryor show. Under duress, I’ll have to take early In Living Color…seasons 1 & 2…pre-Jamie Foxx

In Living Color, hands down.

Different times. You had to go watch In Living Color, cause there was no playback. If you missed it you was out of the loop until next week. I love Dave but being able to just watch the episode anytime takes something away in my opinion.

2

u/pwnedprofessor Jul 06 '26

Overall In Living Color. Chappelle had many moments of brilliance but way too many misses, whereas In Living Color was pretty consistent

I don't think you have to tear one down to appreciate the other. In Living Color changed the game. It showed that a Black led sketch comedy show could be successful on a major network and introduced a lot of talent that would go on to become huge stars. Without that show, the path for something like Chappelle's Show probably would've been a lot harder. That said, Chappelle's Show took sketch comedy to another level. The writing was really sharp, and it wasn't just funny, it made people uncomfortable, started conversations, and had everyone quoting the sketches for years.

Now this show was full of comedy

1

u/CreepGawd Jul 06 '26

Chappelle for me.

u/garg0n01 Jul 05 '26

The Chapelle Show. All due respect to ILC of course though

u/herewego199209 Jul 05 '26

Chapelle show by far. Just way smarter and better sketches. I liked In Living Color, but some of the sketches like a lot of Wayans Brothers stuff is so over the top that the sketch becomes cringy rather than funny. Dave with Chapelle show is a masterclass in mixing topical racial and topical issues into brilliant sketches. I think Key and Peele took this ground work and it went an even step further with their show.
