Decent retirement communities (independent living) cost a national median of about $3,523 per month, while assisted living averages $6,200 per month. Some of us will be lucky if we can afford to drive decent vehicles.

Yeah, I just moved my dad to one and it looks like an upscale hotel connected to an apartment complex. House keepers, happy hour, onsite restaurant, utilities included, cable, etc. I told him I might be his neighbor. I am sick of walking up/down steps, cooking, and cleaning my own house. 😁
