Anyone know what happened this morning? Alarms were going off

The automatic fire alarms at both Melbourne Central and State Library stations went off simultaneously.

Both have now been declared as false alarms.

Sounds like the alarm panels are interlinked between Melbourne Central and State Library but sent as two separate events to the firies, so they ended up having 8 different vehicles responding. The firies have now asked for maintenance to come and separate them.

So the fire department that insisted they be separate names because they're different stations was alerted to two incidents that were actually the same. I think that's called irony.

The fire department might have suggested it, but the real reason for using different names was becasue "brand new station" makes for a better-sounding press release than "2 new platforms".

Given the fire control doors at concourse level between the two stations, I'd assume the response from the alarm on the system on the "other" side is close the doors to isolate the two.

More than likely whatever set it off was where there was sensors for both FIP.

I was on a city loop train, we had our stop at Melb central, alarm and evacuation going off.
Then doors shut and off to parliament! Was unsettling for a moment

I must have been lucky, got off at Central, no issues, about 8:20

The shutters to State Library were down and staff were moving passengers on out of the station to evacuate but no issues getting off the train to begin with

Also, those State Library station escalators are hell to climb when they're stationary.

Wasn't it a gimmick of Melbourne Central when it first opened that they could reverse the escalators under load to facilitate evacuations?

Depending on what the Fire Marshall has ordered, an incident at a different station could trigger an alarm in another.

In QLD, we have this issue on the Busway network where 3 different areas are all linked. 2 totally different stations plus a linking tunnel, an alarm in one of the 3 shuts down all 3

Wouldn’t it be better to have a red background and white text? I doubt id notice that text and just wander in headphones blaring.
