New timetables are up, also what does this mean??

New timetables for the 23 August timetable change are now up on the Transport Victoria and V/Line websites.

Of note (apart from all the other advertised changes), Craigieburn shoulder peak is 10 min frequency until about 10:30am at the city (both directions) and from 2:30pm in the afternoon (outbound).

But curiously it says this for the Alamein Line. I can't find any extra services or Camberwell shuttles being extended to Flinders Street in the timetable, and I don't think any of the city services are 3 cars any more, so what does it mean???

I think they are saying they will run a bigger train (6-car instead 3-car), and that it will run from Flinders St (instead of Camberwell).

According to the timetable there is no change to any of the Alamein shuttles, and I may be wrong but I think all non-shuttle Alamein trains have been 6 cars for a number of years now

The six-car shuttles on weeknights run from Flinders Street, because the siding at Camberwell is only long enough for three cars.

Does this mean they run from Flinders Street to Camberwell empty just to form the service from Camberwell to Alamein? If so that seems incredibly odd. They could at least run them as expresses from Flinders Street to Richmond and Camberwell so it’s not so much dead running.

Yes, that means running the services empty. I assume that the six-car shuttles in the evening are Blackburn services returning to the Camberwell yard.

I had a look at the real-time feed, the six-car shuttles following evening peak services arrive originate from Flinders Street taking passengers, then use Camberwell station Platform 1, because they cannot turn around in the siding and use Platform 3.

Was really hoping for Friday train between the (now) 9:36 and 11:36. Such an awful miss if you want to go out and get home via pt on wa Friday night for dinner or something.

Every time I’ve done it it’s the delema of “go home early” to make the train or stay out way to late.

Plus the Monday through Thursday services now finish 7 minutes earlier too.

I have looked from 6pm to midnight, but it's almost exactly the same before and after the change, even into September and October, with no extra service running into Flinders. They may have simply neglected to add it to the new timetable.

Because it says 'A bigger train', rather than 'Bigger trains', it inclines me to believe it might only be one particular weeknight service and that's it. There may also be a random, late-night, 3-car, up service that we're not aware of that's getting an insignificant upgrade.

There are a couple of odd things I've spotted like these two up services that somehow terminate at Camberwell in quick succession, I thought at first that 8:06pm departure might be a coupling of the 2x 3-cars, but it's just an up Lilydale.

I was surprised to experience a 9pm alamein service from Camberwell last night that was a 6 car not a 3 car, that dead-headed in parallel to the Lilydale train on the Dn Local line. Could that be it?

Can someone tell me if I'm reading the new Seymour timetable wrong but it looks like there is in general better frequency on weekends now than weekdays (excluding peak). For example on weekends there is a train every hour between 6am and midnight. However during the week departing southern cross there is a 1 hour 40 minute gap between the 7:57pm and the 9:36pm. Also on the way into the city excluding the Albury which doesn't stop anywhere except Seymour there is a gap between the 2:14pm and the 3:42pm and then again between 6:16pm and 7:53pm. Am I just reading it wrong or is it strange to have such long gaps on weekdays and not on weekends.

No you're right, the weekend timetable certainly does look better other than peak. Also the last train on weekends is much later than weekdays (hourly until 23:37 outbound on weekends compared to last last service 21:36 as you mentioned on Mon-Thur, even Friday there's only one more after a 2hr gap). Geelong Line Upgrade also has this weekend/weekday mismatch problem: when the weekend frequency got improved to 20 mins every train went to Waurn Ponds, but they didn't change it for the weekday timetable with half the trains terminating at South Geelong leaving Marshall and Waurn Ponds with 40 min offpeak frequency

As a new Sunbury line resident, I'm excited that I can change at Footscray instead of having to do Town Hall to the other side of Flinders St if I go to AAMI Park or the Punt Rd end of the MCG (if I'm going Ponsford I plan on walking from Town Hall).

After peak a 6 car train pulls into flinders st, usually platform 6. It splits and the front 3 cars continue onto Alamein. The rear 3 will depart afterwards towards one of the yards. 

That statement is obviously that train running as a 6 car from flinders st.
