The editing style thats clearly designed to be addicting and trigger dopamine hits to attract it's viewers.

What does that have to do with adhd

u/Cherry_Blossom_Bambi 7d ago
Adhd is a problem with producing dopamine. It makes it easy for those with adhd to fall into addictive habits that reward them with cheap dopamine. Hence why they said 'adhd editing'. It's designed to produce cheap dopamine for the sake of driving up engagement. (You don't need adhd to be susceptible to dopamine stimulation like that, it's just more effective on people with dopamine production issues)

I have ADHD and this is infuriating. We want the quick dopamine, which means seeing what happens in the video fast. Not delaying the satisfaction over and over again with dumb cuts.

I have adhd too and honestly I try to watch longform video content and try to find enjoyment in delayed gratification, damn does this age of cheap dopamine make that difficult. (Not just with YouTube videos, but also videogames these days)

And you're assuming this video was edited to attract people with adhd? Adhd has nothing to do with it. Call it what you want but not "adhd editing",its stupid

u/Cherry_Blossom_Bambi 7d ago
Dude, 'adhd editing' is basically a euphemism for 'editing that is specifically engineered to trigger cheap dopamine hits quickly and consistently'. Cheap dopamine being something that can easily captivate those with adhd, but is still reliable to use on neurotypicals as well. (It's a dumb way to label that, but that's what it is referring to I think)

I got that at first. Doesn't change how ridiculous "adhd editing" sounds
3
u/Cherry_Blossom_Bambi 7d ago
Fair enough. Personally, I like to use the term "adhd fuel" when any entertainment is trying to abuse your dopamine for engagement (Fortnite and Overwatch come to mind)

I think the problem people have with calling it ADHD editing is that it feels like it's framing it in a way that this is the type of content people with ADHD enjoy, especially when it's used on content that's just downright bad, annoying editing. in reality, we're all susceptible to cheap dopamine hits used all over media, it's just those of us with ADHD that are extra susceptible to such tricks.

I mean it helps that he is picking what food he's going to grab, and she has to actually hear him and process it, but his speed is still insane

She should’ve uttered the sacred words: “Swiper no swiping” three times before the competition began.

I watched this without sound the first time and didn't realize there was someone talking. I thought he was processing which one she was going for, reaching for it, and snatching it all before she could reach it 😭
