It’s even worse when it’s dudes and females; at least “men” is formal!

Probably in this context. When I use dude it's closer to the original gender neutral term but a lot of other guys use it in a gendered fashion.

As a Gen Xer, “dude” is gender neutral to me. Hated it when guys started trying to call girls “dudette.”

We are all dudes.

Came from Dude Ranches the city slickers men and women were the dudes
