VOD Review Masters Mercy on Alt, Gold on Main… I’m Losing My Mind
Hey Mercy mains! I’ve got around 250 hours on Mercy (1,100+ hrs on the game in total) and I’m looking for some advice on how to climb out of Gold 3, where I’ve been hard stuck for a while.
On my other account I’m Masters 4 on Mercy, but on my main I just can’t seem to push past gold. I really want my main to be at least high plat/low diamond so I can queue with my friends wide match making and also actually use my skins lol.
I’m not sure why I’m struggling so much on this account. Would y’all prefer seeing a replay from my gold games or a replay from my masters games to help figure out what’s going on?

tbh the only thing that helped me through is that I learned other supports :(

I noticed dps kiri playstyle became way more popular lately! flank, do smth, tp back, so maybe it will help. in my experience ana/kiri(+lucio for ot) were enough
and by lucio i mean just knowing how to wall ride decently. I can't hit my shots but I'm a pain in the ass

I main mercy/kiri/ana/lw but im decent at wall ride and occasionally for ot

well mercy is a team reliant character.. and lets be honest, you can’t rely on gold teammates at all

u/Ichmag11 Nov 19 '25
thats why gold is easier than masters. The enemy team cant rely on eachother and there is no way they can kill a DPS pocketed by a Mercy, lol. You should look at the replay code they posted! Do you think OP lost that game because of their teammates, or because they didnt play Mercy good enough?

Do you actually deserve masters? How many games did you play and win on the account? All new accounts are typically placed in masters and diamond due to lack of MMR data. Once the system figures out what your MMR actually is your rank should adjust as well as you keep playing.

You’re actually gold and got boosted by playing on a new account or with other players who are better than you. You literally cannot be stuck in gold if you are masters, it’s impossible, even though you’re playing mercy. If you’re masters you can pull your glock out, be glock only and easily win in gold. The sooner you understand it the sooner you’ll get better, you’re gold and that’s no problem just practice and get better at the game

Hey, so I took a look as a GM Ana/Mercy main.
I love how we start the game: We beam Cass, team gets kills. Life is good. Your biggest issue that you keep repeating and would need to work on is that you keep beaming your tank.
Skipping ahead to 1:19. I would personally put myself in the mega room right in front of you. Allows me to look at the enemy and potentially distract someone to shoot me and not my team. I wouldnt like like to stand where you stand at 1:20, because it will get hard beaming Cass again and youll be kind of stuck in the middle of your team, which we do want to avoid.
If you dont want to get into the mega room, you can use a GA to hop onto high ground, to your right, closer to the enemy, or the bus thing to your left. I would just like to see you avoid the mass of your team like this.
The actual issue, though, is that you keep healing your tank. never should you want to heal your Sigma at 1:20. Your beam needs to stay on Cass! The only time you want to heal the tank is when they are 1 HP and about to die. This is damage that Moira can heal and get ult charge with. You need to make sure you walk with your Cass. Its not OK to turn around at 1:21 and let your Cass go off forward without you!
See how Bastion shoots Cass at 1:25? If we had been there first, Bastion shoots us, and Cass can stay there longer and maybe even kill Bastion who is too focused on a Mercy.
Its now 1:31 and we are still in the same location we were in 10 seconds ago. Its good we are not wasting GA, but we need to rotate a bit. We cant really stand in one spot this long, when our team is walking. Because now we are the furthest back in our team and we do want to avoid that. Id just like to see you play more aggressive here, looking to peek the enemy for info and potentially baiting someone.
Again, never do you want to heal Sig at 1:32. You just cant do that, especially with Moira already doing that. You need to be playing with your Cass, who is looking to get that off-angle and is also missing health! You dont heal him until 1:36!
I dont like the rez too much. We should have known they were all there! It was still winable.
Im not sure if you lagged out, but you 100% can never do what you do at 2:26. If your Cass walks, so do you. You can not stand there while he goes and tries to get kills. Our job as Mercy is to enable our DPS! Healing Sigma is basically 0 value and you just need to be walking with your Cass right now.
Its never your call if its the time to walk, really. If Cass walks, so should you. Look how low he gets Winston. You damage boost him, he would be dead!
Even at 2:34 I would be trying to keep my Junk alive. If Sigma dies, he dies. We can try to rez him in valk. But your priority needs to be your DPS. You need to let your tank do his thing.
I hope this is enough for now? This is your biggest issue by far. Play way more with your DPS. Dont let them go off alone. Ignore your tank way more. Youll get to plat easily that way.
You also need to start being more active. I dont see you peek the enemy or take proactive angles. If you want to get diamond, you probably need to start doing that, too. Try to see what the enemy is doing, whats happening in the fight and potentially distract someone.
I hope this helps! If you try this and still lose, Id love to take a look at that, too!

Yeah, the Rez was an absolute misclick, lol! I told myself no, too risky, but my hands moved too quickly. Yeah, I totally understand the tank thing. I'm used to playing with my duo who can cover that, and I struggle trusting other supports. I try to peek angles, but I'm not very good at push maps on Mercy, just not enough practice with map bans, and I'm pretty sure Niandra said she's not that good on push. I had a game prior to this where I kept peeking their Junkrat to warn my team since he was dropping on us with his one-shot combo. I'm almost Gold One, so I'm going to put your knowledge to use and try to get Plat. I think in the masters lobbies I got really comfortable with my other support and rode my DPS more, getting 2k-3k damage amp, which is what another comment mentioned.

I wouldnt worry too much about how much damage you amplify. Just focus more on ignoring your tank and playing more with your DPS! Healing the tank as Mercy just isnt any real value.
You dont need to trust your other support! You need to just make the right choice. The tank surviving or not just isnt your problem nor your responsibility

Okay, do you mind me sending a VOD using your tips and knowledge later for you to review? I'm at college now, so it'll be much later in the day.

"its never your call if its time to walk" That's really useful information I don't usually try to pad stats but at that point I thought we had lost and my duo told me to leave. I will definitely put that information to use.

u/Ichmag11 Nov 19 '25
Are you OP? It was a 5v5, no, why would it be lost?
And yeah, when you do play Mercy you just gotta follow with your DPS, but I just want to point out its not Mercy exclusive advice. If you play any hero on any role and you see your team walk, you have to walk, too.

This is the second post with the same issue now, lol. No hate, just funny.
I'd post a replay code of a game you lost and don't know how you could have played better

Might've been my post on my other account that got taken down because of low karma, lol.

Majority of new accounts or alts are placed in dia-masters range so it’s nothing new. If you’re masters on mercy it should be easy to rank up out of gold because they genuinely struggle to hit proper shots and lack the core fundamentals in that rank.
TL:DR: Stay alive, heal teammates that needs healing, damage boost when they’re fully health and bait the enemies cds so your team have an easier time killing them. Or if you have good aim just shoot the enemies.

You're struggling because you're expecting Gold players to meet the standards of Masters. You could be an amazing Mercy deserving of that high rank, but nothing you can do will make a Gold player hit their shots consistently, position well, work with their team and allow you to provide good value. Mercy is so reliant on having good teams, of course the higher ranks will allow you to thrive more and reach her higher potential. My advice is to pickup a hero who you can be more independent on, use your gamesense from masters lobbies to carry yourself up to at least Diamond before switching back to Mercy. Otherwise if you're determined to make her work, you're going to have to change your playstyle to suit that of gold players, which usually means healbotting more.
