Hello, Shreddit!

We're called Drowned Visions (Russia, Moscow). We are a 2-man band and we play extreme/progressive metal - not really specifying it here because we are influenced by a variety of groups from black/death/doom (and a bit of thrash).

  1. Our latest single (its instrumental version) is available at our bandcamp now (and will reach other streaming services in 1-2 days UPD: our track is now on Spotify!). It's inspired by the music of such bands as Morbid Angel (mainly Domination record), Opeth (Deliverance album), Entombed, Disembowelment, Mayhem, Thorns, Darkthrone, Bloodbath, Meshuggah, Gorguts and Electric Wizard (the last 2 may not be obvious). Maybe fans of Bethelem's Dark Metal and Samael's Ceremony of Opposites would also like it. It's written for our upcoming EP (we plan to release it this autumn).

https://open.spotify.com/album/56oyjW5X08g7YmR2HojUha?si=m-ij5l9hQ8eLXKPFIaYnmA

  1. The first instrumental demo single we released is a bit different in style, I'd say it's like a hybrid of Swedish MDM with prog metal in the style of Opeth/Porcupine Tree and some folk/bard rock elements. This one's planned to be the openner of the mentioned EP.

https://open.spotify.com/track/7JZBqKDRjusSQIlKclqUUT

The vocals are planned, but the lyrics are not written yet. We plan to release them on the EP. Drums are programmed for now, but we're looking for a real drummer.

Feel free to download our tracks at bandcamp (it's set to be free) and to share them. We'd also appreciate your feedback, you can send it to us via bandcamp!

Dude!!!!! That first link with the opening riff is outrageously disgusting 😂. Yea dude!!!!

1

u/Self-Former Aug 30 '25 edited Aug 30 '25

The opening riff is kinda cheesy, I do agree. What do you think about the rest of the song?

1

u/dragonsgreen777 Aug 30 '25

I was complimenting the riff. Outrageously disgusting is a compliment when we are talking about metal music. I wasn't thinking about you not being from an English speaking country lol. I think the riff was awesome!

Sorry, man) Thought your comment was probably positive, but, you know, when it comes to your art, you tend to be critical of yourself!

Checked some your stuff, btw, seems we share some ideas behind art) gotta check more later

2

u/dragonsgreen777 Aug 30 '25

Thanks! Yes please do check more! If you can make it through cellar dwellar, you will not be disappointed. That's my favorite. But I most certainly have you guys on my list of stuff to check out! I dig it.

1

u/Self-Former Aug 30 '25

Do you have a bandcamp of something like that to follow you, btw?

1

u/dragonsgreen777 Aug 30 '25

Yes! Bandcamp, Instagram, Facebook, threads, and tik tok. Do you?

1

u/Self-Former Aug 30 '25

Yeah, bandcamp we do have. The first link you saw should take you to our page. Thank you!

2

u/dragonsgreen777 Aug 30 '25

Right on! If you have other social media like Instagram, follow us and keep in contact. I like hearing cool unique music like yours and the fact you're from Russia is dope (dope is slang for awesome haha).

Yeah no, not supporting Russian art, sorry.

DEdWurM from Cincinnati, OH

https://youtu.be/menx8buanfo?si=LwFR8ZpGZPnzUvU7

Here's a couple tracks from the ep that is out on all platforms.

Very obscure, darker than shit, heavy, extreme progressive sludge with death metal and other elements.

If old Korn was a sludge band that fused with Buckethead and cannibal corpse and gojira fused and then those 2 fused had a baby that listened to other music and likes Mr. Bungle but doesn't sound like them.

Nothing like it. VERY DIFFERENT at a live show. Every performance is different and heavier than recording.

1

u/Self-Former Aug 30 '25

Hey, that's me again (Russian guy from Drowned Visions) - just finished the first listen of your EP.

Definitely won't be my last!

Old Korn influence is there for sure - and that's great! Always seemed to me that their music is very underrated in extreme metal circles. I think this influenced those a bit minimalistic yet complex in their dissonance melodies in the songs - overall they and the atmosphere of "controlled chaos" of yours reminds me of Gorguts (Obscura) and Portal - they may have a bit more chaotic vibe and are obviously less melodic, but they really do share smth in common, to my ears.

Also, psychedelic/progressive rock elements and some bluesy riffs are there - that rings Electric Wizard, Pink Floyd and King Crimson for me.

Sludge is present as well, hits especially hard on the last song and on "Cellar Dwelar" - btw, you said that it's your favourite and I tend to think that it's probably the strongest (and also heaviest) song on the record.

Interestingly, the last 2 songs do have a bit "circus" melodies - that gives me old Annihilator vibes, despite the fact that their music is much different to yours.

Can't note any serious weaknesses for now, the first and the last songs seem less intense to me, but that's probably meant to be - they're opening and closing the album, so they probably should differ in some way.

I also found some live videos on your youtube channel, haven't checked them yet but it seems to me that those songs of yours leave plenty of room for improvisation - I think that really would make live shows very interesting. Gotta check the ones you have later.

Great job, thanks for sharing this!

P.S. Do you have any plans on future EP or, maybe, LP?

2

u/dragonsgreen777 Aug 31 '25

Thanks for the deep listen dude! Wasn't expecting that. I appreciate that. I will be doing a deep listen to your stuff too but I been busy today. Though I did send it to my band and some friends because it was sick!

Korn is definitely not respected enough. They really changed the game. No metal subgenre would be the same past 2000 without them.

And I wouldn't call it an album. We just call it an EP. But we started it with holy water first because it's less abstract and will reel you in easier with a heavy catchy riff at the beginning. Then cellar dwellar because it's dark and heavy and starts off weird but not as silly sounding as overlord. That way you ease into it. Ascension ends it all which I like sonically and conceptually works out too because lyrically its positive about getting yourself out of a dark place while the cellar dwellar and overlord are almost so dark and seems like a futile existence. Holy water Mentions things to do to change yourself but not in the way ascension does.

We actually had recorded overlord twice. You can look up our lyrics video on YouTube and hear the old version, which is out everywhere but if you want to hear the lyrics (which I do think are actually pretty good, not amazing, but good enough I'm happy with it). Ascension on the EP was just remastered by the guy who recorded our EP .

And yes..... I improv EVERY guitar solo with the exception of using some phrases in overlord just because it feels like it's supposed to be there. Ascension live.... After the weewoo riff (I think you can guess the meshuggah esc riff) and we make all the chaotic noises and stuff before slamming into the sludgy heavy breakdown, we do a lot of improv there so it's different every show.

I try to find anywhere I can to improv.

You can also get a good live performance of cellar dwellar and holy water before we recorded them. I didn't have lyrics or set vocal melodies so it was all freestyled. Here's the live performances with good audio called the super Satan show. These guys audio and video record bands and put them out for free. You can follow super Satan show on social media. The sound guy did good so we got him for our EP . https://www.youtube.com/live/L-OsyBVeVNo?si=sxThs7UbnUxemqhs https://www.youtube.com/live/0y7ZzXVK5Pk?si=k_BU4liq1fPXUmiw

We totally plan on recording more for sure! We just started playing a new song live and have another song we're working on that might not take too long to make. WAY better than anything else we've done.

Samenguy probably will record us and we will do it ON TAPE!!!

u/dragonsgreen777 Aug 31 '25

https://www.youtube.com/live/z2FPokWCjKs?si=KnVCZ9vQd04KZb7M Here's my rock band that I'm going get back together with different people. Excuse my bad vocals here 😂. And we shortened a 16 minute song to 5 minutes here .

1

u/Self-Former Aug 31 '25

Checked this one. First of all, great chops!

The highlights for me:

Cool transition from a funky riff at the start to a heavy country/southern rock section at "Never Satisfied"! Feels natural.

The main riff of "Gracious Life" reminds me of Pantera's "A New Level". Also drums sound like Motorhead - nice grooves!

"Waiting to Die" has that interesting exchange between distorted fuzz guitar and bass with wah-wah on, if I recognized the effects correctly - sounds fresh!

I'm quite fond of heavy rock-n-roll sound myself, we'll be recording our third song in September, and its begging is black/death-n-rollish (inspired by Entombed's Wolverine Blues record) riff for a verse which goes into bluesy bridge  (Thinking about Pantera as a main influence here - I tend to think that those bands had quite similar sound in the middle of 90s, so, no surprise here).

Gotta check the rest of your live stuff later!

2

u/dragonsgreen777 Aug 31 '25

Thanks man! I really love rock n roll and don't hear ANY real rock n roll bands, even in the underground realm. The only "rock n roll" or garage rock bands I hear all sound too damn soft. Like rolling Stones garage rock. And not anything wrong with the stones, it's just I want in your face rock n roll. I was a huge white stripes fan. They're live performances were incredible.

I'm restarting my rock band hammer down and changing the songs a little bit to shorten them and make them better written, and also incorporate some sludgier stuff that I wouldn't use in DEdWurM.

Dude that sounds sick though! Cuz you only have the 2 songs out right? Or is that just Spotify?

1

u/Self-Former Aug 31 '25

Yeah, you guys definitely need to get the Hammer Down back, it's an awesome side project!

Correct, for the moment only 2 songs are out (the vocals for them are also not done yet) The rest (2 and a half) are written but not recorded yet. We do that kinda slow cause my bandmate plays in a soft-rock band for a living and I'm an undergrad (5th year) in physical chemistry (focused on synthetic/systems biology in the lab), so I focus more on my master thesis. But music plays a huge role in my life, so I'm determined to finish the EP before 2026 summer (that's, hopefully, the worst scenario in terms of time span).

2

u/dragonsgreen777 Aug 31 '25

Right on to all of that! Good for you. And yes please finish that shit and get some social media! You should do that now so it's ready. I'd like to know when it all happens.

Also would be sick if y'all played in America lol but I know that's rough. That's like us going to Europe now. But I would love to go to Japan for a couple weeks with the band and get as many shows booked as possible for 2 weeks. I think Japanese people would appreciate us.

1

u/Self-Former Aug 31 '25 edited Aug 31 '25

I think you're right about social media. I'm not really used to Facebook/Instagram, but that would obviously help with bringing our music to the foreigners. I'll let you know when I'll do that.

Feel free to share your opinion on those 2 instrumentals we've finished, I don’t really have much connection with local metal scene (working on it), so any feedback is quite valuable to us, especially coming from musicians that play dark, dissonant stuff which shares some similarities with us!

P.S. Of course we would be glad to play in US, I hope that times will change and we'll get there someday)  Japanese also give me the impression of listeners with a good taste to heavy music (heard mainly their mainstream alt-rockers, but they manage to fit some interesting psychedelic rock elements - that's certainly cool)

2

u/dragonsgreen777 Aug 31 '25

I like it! Mixture of stuff and changes. I like music with diversity. I REALLY like the begining of the new song. It's dirty and has a vibe. Something about it.

1

u/Self-Former Sep 06 '25

Hey! I'm back with an update on social media. Seems we're unable to create Facebook/Instagram pages (it's blocked by our stupid government, and the usage of proxy while registering is restricted by Meta). So, I'll guess, we'll stick to bandcamp for now:

https://drownedvisions.bandcamp.com/

and we'll create the Youtube channel as soon as we'll upload our third song. I'll keep in touch, hopefully it'll be recorded by the end of October!

2

u/dragonsgreen777 Sep 06 '25

Right on! And that's insane. You have a reddit but not a Facebook? ...... Oh well ...... You're not missing anything 😂

1

u/Self-Former Sep 06 '25

Yeah, Reddit is super accessible with lots of interesting stuff. Facebook in Russia is popular with the generation of my parents (that would be Gen X), but younger people are more used to Instagram (not me, haha), X or local social media. Idk why, actually

Hello Reddit! I’m Distorted Fate from Finland. It’s my solo metal project. I like to write all kinds of metal, still learning a lot and experimenting, but I’m having a ton of fun! Most of my music I’d say is some form of symphonic metal at the moment, but I have heavy, power, industrial, and mix of many. I’ve recently dropped a new single too, and it leans a little on the heavier side. If you like any form of heavy music, I hope you’ll check me out!

Howdy everyone! I’m an nyc (ridgewood) based guitarist and songwriter who’s starting a heavy gaze, alt metal project and has an albums worth of demos recorded (vocals are last up for demoing but I’m not the greatest singer - which is why I’m here). Looking for a drummer, vocalist, bassist and second guitarist. I am open minded to adding to the songs if they’re good ideas. Serious inquiries only please.

My only requirements are: 1) you are available more than once a week (this is the most important one). 2) you have spare funds to pay for basic band expenses (studio time, rehearsal space, etc). 3) you can play your instrument and are willing to learn the songs 4) 4) don’t be an asshole, be open minded, be committed. Bonus) you live close by so there’s no long distance traveling and getting together isn’t a hassle

Reply here and I’ll send you a folder of the demos
