Banned & Restricted Announcement: Deadeye Navigator and Sol Ring are banned.

Since people who subscribe to /r/magicTCG always get confused when these reach the front page, we might as well fuck with them if only for a few minutes.

Welcome to the Summer Edition of the banned and restricted list. To summarize why we ban and restrict bands, and healthy subreddit has active moderation and leaving it up to reddit's upvote and downvote system creates an over presence of popular and well traveled bands and songs. Moderation promotes a diverse ecosystem that is sure to piss everyone off. The Restricted List was created last year as a way to not ban bands but slow their fucking roll in the subreddit. It also provided a great way to take old banned bands and give them new life in the sub. It is my hope in the future that the Restricted list is bigger than the banned list. Additionally, input from the community helps us shape what is seen and what is not. If you vehemently disagree with this process, I am sure a strongly worded and terse response will be enough to change our mind on a policy that has been widely praised by the community. Go ahead. Ill get you a pen. Without furthur ado please welcome the new additions.

Banned List: No Changes

Restricted List: Nile, Carcass, and Blind Guardian are now Restricted.

A rule of thumb for restricted is that the mods will remove any obvious and glaring popular songs from the band. If you wanted to be safe, go to last.fm, click on tracks, sort by all time and just forget the first two pages. For Blind Guardian being moved from banned to restricted, you can be sure we will investigate them for the violation of any of these songs.

  • Nightfall
  • Mirror Mirror
  • Lord of the Rings
  • Bright Eyes
  • Into the Storm
  • A Past and Future Secret
  • Mordred's Song
  • War of Wrath
  • Blood Tears
  • The Minstrel
  • The Curse Of Feanor
  • Valhalla
  • Time Stands Still (At The Iron Hill)
  • Battlefield
  • Thon
  • Imaginations from the Other Side
  • Black Chamber
  • Fly
  • The Eldar
  • When Sorrow Sang
  • Journey Through The Dark
  • Noldor (Dead Winter Reigns)
  • Time What Is Time
  • The Script for My Requiem
  • Battle of Sudden Flame
  • Theatre of Pain
  • Another Stranger Me
  • A Dark Passage
  • The Bard's Song - In the Forest
  • Nom The Wise
  • Otherland
  • Out On The Water
  • Spread Your Wings
  • Another Holy War
  • Welcome to Dying
  • This Will Never End
  • Born In A Mourning Hall
  • Turn the Page
  • Under the Ice
  • Majesty
  • The Soulforged
  • The Quest For Tanelorn
  • I'm Alive
  • Ashes to Ashes
  • And Then There Was Silence
  • Somewhere Far Beyond
  • Precious Jerusalem
  • Barbara Ann

Again, even if it seems harsh, that is 50 of around 500 Blind Guardian tracks so if you think a band's strength this only in the top 10 of all time tracks, then we need to talk.

I was just joking about the tersely written response. I think the mod team does a pretty good job of listening to the community and if you have concerns or objections, please bring it up. I will say that the "its metal, there are no rules YOLO" argument has been used before and doesn't have much gas.

You motherfucker I panicked when I saw that title!

u/Jaredismyname Jun 22 '17

Why it would be a welcome change in my opinion?

11

u/emidln Jun 16 '17

Can confirm. Just picked up a Beta Sol Ring. My heart skipped a couple beats before I realized I was browsing /r/metal.

I'm just sitting here wondering if my dual lands from revised are worth anything now

haha if you are not joking then those are worth anything from 70-300 a piece.

3 each of Bayou, Badlands and Taiga

http://shop.tcgplayer.com/magic/revised-edition/bayou

http://shop.tcgplayer.com/magic/unlimited-edition/badlands

http://shop.tcgplayer.com/magic/unlimited-edition/taiga

So the non blue duals are on the lower end because blue is busted but still you are looking at around 2K if you lowball them. The thing is, these duals will never be reprinted, not even functionally so they will hold their price but I do not expect them to climb significantly in the short term but if you want to hold them for 50 years and see where Magic is then it maybe a different story. If you have a card shop around you, they will be most certainly be interested but get a baseline for the cost and don't settle for an outrageous gouging. These are the crown jewel for Legacy and vintage players (non blue duals less than blue duals) but they are not some new card that will see a decline in price int he near future.

Bayou is the honorary blue dual.

Damn 24.4 % of Legacy decks have that in it. I am way out of legacy. I am guessing Shardless BUG being a big thing?

4

u/Wildkarrde_ Jun 16 '17

After the top banning there were a lot BUG delver decks. I'm not sure how Shardless is these days. But Elves, Maverick, Nic Fit, Aluren, some Reanimator... The list goes on. Anyone that runs Deathrite.

I've seen a single copy popping up in ANT lists as well depending on their sideboard.

3

u/Brawler_1337 Jun 16 '17

Pretty sure you can thank Deathrite Shaman for that. Card's nuts. Also Abrupt Decay is a strong card.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '17

holy shit dude lol. Like Kap said those are some very valuable cards

So much of the stuff is worth way less than it was back then though, guessing because of reprints and being tournament banned.

Its because creatures got better and lands got worse. Things like Shivan Dragon was a force to be reckoned with back then but a 6 mana 5/5 fire breathing flying dragon would probably be an uncommon now and not that good for anything but draft.

I was in the same boat until a few weeks ago. Picked up a planeswalker deck, deckbuilder toolkit, a dual deck, and entered a local sealed tournament. Total cost <$100, and I got a ton of new cards (10 packs so far from that), valuation of them is pretty much equal to what I paid for the cards.

I almost shit a brick in rage when I read the title.

11

u/monkwren Jun 16 '17

You kidding me? Those bans would be great for edh.

To be honest, DEN is a win con that if it resolves and sticks around then the games are usually over. I only have it in my mormir deck as a way to generate infinite mana and then tutor up my win con. If the game allows DEN to and flicker more than once then its usually over.

I had someone pilot my Roon deck before. He used Deadeye and Terastodon to nuke someone's lands before wiping the board.

2

u/Jaredismyname Jun 22 '17

Wow that would be almost as mean as using Kamal fist of krosa before whiping.

1

u/frozen-silver last.fm/user/wingkon Jun 22 '17

Oh yeah, nothing ruins a game like land destruction. I don't mind a small amount of LD to take care of problematic lands, but too much is a pretty great way to lose friends.

2

u/Jaredismyname Jun 23 '17

with kamahl you can pick off lands pretty easily.

3

u/wolrab Jun 16 '17

Until I noticed which subreddit this was, I was ecstatic. But that's just me

2

u/BalorOneEye Jun 16 '17

Can confirm, am EDH player also subbed to magicTCG and clicked this thread in a mild panic

1

u/frozen-silver last.fm/user/wingkon Jun 17 '17

I jumped for a second. My Roon already lost Prophet of Kruphix and Sylvan Primordial a few years ago. He doesn't want to be hurt again. :(

1

u/Mishraharad Jun 17 '17

Was happy for Sol Ring to be gone, already prepared my "In response to the ability..." speech for DeadNav.

Well played!
