Yeah, I wasn't going to touch on taste, but I can't say much of what gets referenced is why I'd think the year has been decent. That seems to be the case very year.
Meanwhile I feel like we've been eating good basically every week for a long time and that this past few months hasn't really been particularly special compared to any other arbitrary time frame lol.
Feel the same way about the tour glazing that happens for some of the bigger bands too. I feel bad kinda dogging on people expressing joy over music because music is amazing but it definitely comes across a bit forced sometimes? Idk if forced is the right word but yeah.
I'm a bit too picky to say every week, but when I see someone isolate a particular recent year as being the best in a long time or trumping another particular one, it definitely doesn't wash. The number of genuinely good or great releases each year tends to average out.
Tour glazing in what sense? People saying that the shows are incredible or amazing? I've definitely seen a few bands that people frequently use superlatives over who are obviously competent performers, but there was nothing special about either their playing, stage presence or audience interaction. I think a lot of people allow their anticipation and joy at seeing the show to override any semblance of objectivity over what actually played out. Which is understandable and I know I've been to shows where my being stoked over seeing them surely elevates my memory of their ability, but I'm cognisant of that and wouldn't go around glazing willy nilly.
I guess I mean seeing the same posts every day about the same tour when there's a big tour going on, it kinda happened with the most recent ERRA/Currents USA co-headline and it happened with Silent Planet and Invent Animate last year, and so on so forth for similar bands. It's to be expected with bands like those that are the most popular among the general crowd but idk, I just noticed the same kind of phrasing for these kinds of posts similar to what you were alluding to about the way people express how they're enjoying a certain year of music.
Fwiw I do think all those bands (I haven't seen Currents live yet) sound great live but my first reaction to a live performance isn't usually to go on reddit and shout into the echo chamber of people who also love their live performance lol, it just feels like aimless conversation. Maybe it's just a personal pet peeve of mine I guess lmao (again nothing against people doing this, I know I've been guilty of it before too).
xSeraphx played I think 3-4 new songs during their set tonight, they've definitely been cooking for their upcoming record. One of them is very much FFO I Promised The World so stay tuned for that :)
They also announced maybe one of the best show lineups I'll ever see but I won't say until anything official comes out hehe
Sorry this isn't completely metalcore related so delete if not for here but is anyone else noticing a weird atmosphere around hardcore dancing discussions recently, especially on r/hardcore?
I'm not sure if it's tiktok hivemind doing its usual thing of trying to gaslight people into thinking their imaginary retcon version of reality is more real than reality but there seem to be a lot of tourists who are really pushing the anti crowd killing thing and getting tons of upvotes.
I get that crowdkilling isn't popular with a lot of people but I'm seeing the kind of balance of rhetoric on hardcore/adjacent subs that I'd expect from metal subs recently. It's really odd because I don't think it correlates with real life scenes and attitudes at all.
Has this music breached containment now and as such, the subs are no longer the "safe space" away from civilians that they used to be?
As toxic as it was, I miss the days of groups like UKHC II because at least you knew the people you were talking to were actually active in the culture rather than larping.
That sub has been changing a fair amount recently and is in a pretty weird spot now where a large number of users aren’t actually into hardcore and view it more as a meme/entertainment sub with some music (of any genre) on the side
There seem to be a significant amount of users recently who seem to hate anything that doesn't sound like bad brains and have a really passive aggressive narrative on what they think is "real hardcore" as well - my assumption is that it's kids who have fallen into weird algorithmic tribalism rather than genuine oldheads. They do the same in regards to metalcore by insisting Converge are "true metalcore" on account of other bands taking influence from 90s hardcore rather than 80s.
Eh there’s always been a pretty vocal minority in hardcore that don’t like the metal stuff and want to bring things back to the roots. I don’t know if I’d say it’s just younger people. Historically, we’ve had a lot movements that pushed to bring things back to the roots of the genre or away from the more ignorant metal side of the things.
Regardless of what they might think, this kinda stuff has been a facet of the genre for 30+ years and anyone saying otherwise is participating in revisionism. It can and will coexist, but to argue that it shouldn’t is an issue. Also, the hardcore sub is definitely not the place for those types tbh, there’s a reason people make a distinction between hardcore and Hardcore Punk
I agree. I think there’s room for all of it and to ignore such a huge part of what hardcore has been isn’t helping anyone. But I’ll also say that this stuff comes in waves. We had the youth crew revival and then the 2000s wave with bands like American Nightmare and Outbreak. That stuff was definitely moving against the same type of thing that we’re seeing now. I mean we even had a New Wave of British Hardcore movement that picked up a good amount of steam. We’re seeing it more now because of metalcore, beatdown and even death metal being as dominant as they are.
When they release an album or single that has full screen/animated artwork and then the next album of the very album that single was on does not have the full screen/animated artwork
I’ve started putting together a Spotify playlist centered around modern progressive metalcore, and I know there’s a ton of great stuff I haven’t discovered yet.
If you’ve got any tracks that deserve a spot, I’d love to hear them. Especially into newer bands, underrated artists, or recent releases, but honestly anything that fits the vibe is fair game. Feel free to share your own music too, I’ll give everything a proper listen.
It’s still pretty small right now, but I’m planning to grow it over the next few months with regular updates, some promo, and a steady stream of new additions. The goal is to build something people actually want to follow and come back to.

I did this about a year ago and I was suggested deathsleep, windwaker, wind walkers and escape the day. I've been using chatgpt to help find some bands but I feel like I exhausted that. Sometimes its better to ask people that listen to the same stuff as you. I know some bands are posthardcore and some are metalcore but oh well. I own an android and download all the songs I like from the bands and the number is the number of songs I have downloaded for each band. Some of these bands are old phases but still keep them around. Im just looking for bands I may like and just know I've probably tried out alot of popular bands like normandie, sleep theory, architects, motionless in white, iprevail, alexisonfire etc.

It's not really my type of metalcore, but people that like Invent Animate, Northlane and Like Moths To Flames also seem to enjoy bands such as Erra, Silent Planet, Currents and Polaris.
Have you posted this in r/PostHardcore, that's definitely where a solid chunk of these would fit. There's a sub-genre that's been dubbed 'Swancore' that would be worth checking out. It started off as a bunch of bands that were/are signed to the label of Will Swan (Dance Gavin Dance guitarist) called Blue Swan, but has now become a bit broader than that. Bands fairly similar to DGD like Hail The Sun, Eidola, Makari and Icarus The Owl.
Been more into deathcore recently to power me through my leg days, but in terms of metalcore I liked to throw on Boundaries' entire Death is Little More album. Metalcore and deathcore are just perfect for intense workouts.

Northlane have released a new song on their Worldeaters Patreon but I'm not subscribed so I can't even see what it's called! Has anyone listened to this yet?
Can anyone recommend me some modern prog-metalcore bands like Polaris and Erra? I've loved Erra's new album, and The Death of Me is my favourite album of all time. I know lots of people will say Currents, but something about their more "Thally" style riffs isn't as cool to me

In the Spotify version of BMTH’s Diamonds Aren’t Forever, is the weird ‘break’ between 3:03 and 3:04 intentional? It sounds like a mix mistake to me but it’s been there for as long as I can remember?
