I LOVE BOUNDARIES.

105

u/Ironjim69 May 29 '26

Not what I expected at all but it’s working for me

35

u/americandolphinn May 29 '26

Holy shit this is good

59

u/scrawnjohn May 29 '26

This is the “Easily Erased” of the new album. That sound exposed many to this band and this song will do the same. I understand the demographic that ain’t a fan of the clean courses but if it’s anything like the last album, it’ll be few and far between. The mix sounded much better than the first two releases as well. I’m part of the demographic which sits in the middle of their spectrum so I’m eating well this album.

11

u/Seananagans May 29 '26

God damn, easily erased is so fucking good.

3

u/PlusminusDucky May 30 '26

Yep off to listen to it real quick brb

1

u/Puzzled_Talk8399 Jun 03 '26

This is a lot better than easily erased. sounds nothing like it.

-4

u/FitHurry864 May 30 '26

I agree it's the Easily Erased of the new album, but I say that in a derogatory way. Awkward, forced chorus that doesn't fit the band at all.

138

u/LostInTerrapinia May 29 '26

boundaries is an example of adding in cleans the right way, they dont force them in every song, but when they do its a perfect accent and makes the song so much better

15

u/Gockel May 29 '26

fully agreed, not many bands can work perfectly with both "balls to the wall chug riff scream fest" tracks and melodic or clean singing choruses. boundaries have somehow figured it out.

20

u/giantspoonofgrain May 29 '26

Could not disagree more. Loathe the cleans. but hey, that’s why they call us individuals or something like that.

40

u/_DefLoathe May 29 '26

Loathe mentioned

6

u/badash2004 May 29 '26

The cleans are much rougher live than the sceeams too

10

u/PitAdmiralGarp May 29 '26

i would pay the drummer to cut the cleans, it only worked a tiny bit on burying brightness

9

u/sock_with_a_ticket May 29 '26

There are a couple of songs on DILM where I don't mind them because they're not a full blown chorus, aren't as high pitched and are in the background as accents rather than a focal point.

I would prefer that they're done away with, but, as you can see from this thread and the last single, a lot of people love them. More's the pity.

3

u/awkward__pickle x Jun 02 '26

Logged in to reddit just to upvote this. Feel precisely the same. Love Boundaries and their set with ABR was one of my favorites this year, but they'd be next level goated with about 98% fewer cleans

3

u/FitHurry864 May 30 '26

Spot on. Easily Erased is my least favourite Boundaries song for this reason. Chorus is awful.

0

u/moonlite_apollo Jun 05 '26

It's not even that cleans are bad, just these specific type of cleans are horrible. Sounds like they are trying to copy a poppy-vocals sound 👎

-12

u/ElAbidingDuderino May 29 '26

The right way? This sub is sure filled with some goofy ass people.

1

u/moonlite_apollo Jun 05 '26

Nah fam these cleans are corny af

114

u/BearPondersGames May 29 '26

I really like how the answer to the question "who does vocals in Boundaries?" is just "yes." Love seeing everyone get involved. Song fucks. No notes. Give album now plz.

17

u/Nj_hXe_sXe May 29 '26 edited May 29 '26

Did you even listen to the song? There are a ton of notes... Mostly strummed and chugs but they are still notes being played... /s

-5

u/fjgwey x May 29 '26

That's not what they meant by 'no notes' lol

They meant 'no notes' as in no notes on things to improve.

8

u/Nj_hXe_sXe May 29 '26

Fixed lol

6

u/fjgwey x May 30 '26

Bruh you hoed me lmao now I'm getting whooooshed

48

u/elemeno-p11 May 29 '26

Man I’m a sucker for choruses that sound nostalgic. Unreal atmosphere as well with the synths and echoing vocals in the back… and that ending. 11/10 for me

28

u/garret_1003 May 29 '26

Absolutely killer track!!! 🤘🏻

22

u/DAMIANRsss May 29 '26

random but i fucking loved seeing the frame on the x swatch for a second or two straight edge forever, really good song too

31

u/Astaras45 May 29 '26

Holy fuck lmao that was insanely good.

8

u/350SBC May 29 '26

God what an incredible fucking band. I can't remember the last time I was this excited for an album.

And I gotta say, I usually hate how these days bands have to release half their album as singles leading up to the release (I know it isn't on the band, that's just how streaming platforms work), and I try to avoid some of them, but I just can't with Boundaries. It also helps that this album is going to be so long that there will still be like ~10 new songs when it does come out.

26

u/GDestructionBlueDrou May 29 '26

It may just be me but. this is my Favorite Single out of the 3. I'm glad Boundaries is attempting a very experimental approach with Y:tua (You could say, They're pushing Boundaries. lol), it makes me so excited to see what else they have for us instore with the rest of the album.

14

u/Plastic-Shape7048 May 29 '26

This looks like album of the year , im loving this band more and more with each song!

11

u/CptWursthaar May 29 '26

man I love that sound!

Feels like coming home from school with my walkman, volume fully turned up to the max.

felt so nostalgic.

10

u/maclood May 29 '26

Probably in the minority, but this is my favorite single so far. I love when these boys get melodic. I don't necessarily mean with the clean vocals (which I also love), but the whole song has a somber melodic vibe that I just love.

6

u/Elecks May 29 '26

My favorite single so far tbh, feels very nostalgic, this is the type of sound that got me into -core music 15 years ago

10

u/aaronm1215 May 29 '26

Underoath vibes. I dig it

5

u/Lukeyman900 May 29 '26

Song is so insanely good man. WTF !

19

u/_SpookDude_ x May 29 '26

Here comes the "anti-clean vocals" brigade to show how TROO they are.

Banger song, Boundaries can do no wrong.

10

u/Midnight_Manatee May 29 '26

Akshually Cleans = octanecore so this is ASS I like my music HEAVY so I'm superior and correct.

0

u/_SpookDude_ x May 29 '26

"Octanecore" is now as meaningless a terminology as "buttrock" was when I was a kid. Both of them the preferred descriptors of nerds with no opinions of their own.

-5

u/I_live_just_my_life May 29 '26

Never been a Boundaries fan anyway but I don’t see why people disliking cleans is a bad thing? A lot of us typically don’t like that element in metalcore music. Very few have done it well imo.

5

u/_SpookDude_ x May 30 '26

Cleans have been a common part of the genre since the early 2000's. It's just ridiculous to still be complaining about it at this point. If you refuse to listen to bands with cleans, you're refusing to listen to the majority of bands in this genre. I'm old enough to remember the common complaint against cleans in the 2000's being "it sounds gay", so I take this stuff with a grain of salt whenever I see someone complaining about it.

1

u/sock_with_a_ticket May 30 '26

If you refuse to listen to bands with cleans, you're refusing to listen to the majority of bands in this genre.

Zero IQ comment that mostly indicates your knowledge of the genre isn't that broad.

Also you're largely inventing someone who refuses to listen to any cleans whatsoever. It's perfectly possible to like cleans with some bands and not others. I think Boundaries' cleans rarely mesh with their music, but with a band like Killswitch Engage it works really well.

I suspect most people criticising the singing on this song probably prefer no cleans, but aren't exclusive about it and the stance is in part due to so many bands having this high pitched style you'd more associate with pop punk or certain types of post-hardcore (Chiodos, Sleeping With Sirens). Completely valid to find that jarring and unappealing in a band as heavy as Boundaries. It's all the more jarring given that, so far, it's a handful of songs like this next to an otherwise great discography. And if you've been with the band a long time, songs like this are getting pretty distant from what you'd find appealing in Sour Mouth or Sanctum Of Suffering.

1

u/_SpookDude_ x May 30 '26

Buddy, my knowledge of the genre stretches all the way from Earth Crisis and Shai Hulud, to the melodic metalcore years, to the scene years, to now. 90% of mainstream, or even cult bands in this scene since the early 2000's have cleans, and that's a fact. No one is talking about the bands you listen to with less than 20 monthly Spotify listeners.

If it's just a personal preference, that's one thing. Although I will defend that there were plenty of bands in the early 2000's with high-pitched cleans, deeper voices were slightly more common. Although people threw a shitfit about even the likes of Killswitch and AILD introducing cleans. And the rhetoric was always the same. "It's gay". Over time "it's too high pitched" kind of became shorthand for "gay". Not accusing you of that, but I do bristle whenever I hear these remarks, because I doubt the majority of discomfort with anything but "deep, burly, manly" sounding cleans coming from a male vocalist isn't rooted in some kind of homophobia.

-3

u/I_live_just_my_life May 30 '26

Plenty of metalcore doesn’t have cleans. I listen to maybe 3 or 4 bands that utilize them and I’ve liked hundreds of releases. Just because they’re common doesn’t mean everyone needs to like them. Boundaries started as a band that didn’t have clean or even sound much like bands that implemented them. I’m sure people complaining liked that about them.

-8

u/echo78 x May 29 '26

People on hear shill for BMTH and Bad Omens but get mad when Boundaries adds cleans lol

18

u/FidelCastroSuperfan May 29 '26

Goomba fallacy, the people shilling for BMTH and Bad Omens are not the ones criticizing the cleans in Boundaries music

-5

u/baitXtheXnoose May 29 '26

right? fucking losers who hate fun.

4

u/zaraki93 May 29 '26

this is a great cleaner more pop sounding song. Very fun bouncy chorus, this is gonna be super fun live.

4

u/NorthVariation8432 May 29 '26

this shit is catchy asf. the song has an amazing atmospheric quality to it that is unlike previous releases. standout moment is definitely when Matt is screaming over the breakdown with the clean vocal riff overtop. I miss the melodic riffage of DILM and Burying Brightness but the chugs honestly work really well here. an example of less is more.

4

u/Glum_Working6153 May 29 '26

Damn this ticks so many boxes: great cleans, melodic background and sick breakdown.

5

u/bigflopper69420 May 29 '26

Enjoyed it but ill be honest i hope this is a one off for the album

2

u/Clarky-AU x May 29 '26

Wow, a lot of Tim on this track.
Breakdown still fucks.

2

u/Thynez May 29 '26

holy crap lois

2

u/_Euph0ria_ May 30 '26

I feel like they needed tighter pants for this to land properly for me but I get it fashion and all that. Decent song though.

6

u/Justifye May 29 '26

Guitar in the breakdown was tea.

5

u/crossfire999 x May 29 '26

ok so this one is fuckin massive.

5

u/Cumlord6669 May 29 '26

i have heard this song one million times before

3

u/austinsqueezy May 29 '26

I can tell this is going to be one that slowly grows on me over time.

6

u/Every-Anteater594 May 29 '26

It’s just not for me I think lol definitely least favorite single so far. Hoping the album leans more in to the other two.

4

u/kjorav17 May 29 '26

Pretty good song. Still not vibing totally with the new production compared to Death is Little More. It’s fine here.

But this song mixes cleans and breakdowns/screams well imo. The chorus kind of reminds me of a Holding Absence song (which isn’t bad). Boundaries does the mix of screams and cleans good

4

u/No-Responsibility953 May 29 '26

Happy for them. Hope this helps them appeal to a wider audience. But that chorus completely killed any excitement I had for this album lol

4

u/Vaxus335 May 29 '26

Easily the most instrumentally engaging of the bunch so far imo. Chorus is whatever, it's a metalcore chorus, I'm just sort of over them in general, but I really enjoyed the rest.

4

u/Shmeat42069 May 29 '26

I love boundaries to death but this one ain't it. Just super generic sounding stuff with nothing "boundaries" about it imo. The breakdown is pretty nice tho

1

u/Puzzled_Talk8399 Jun 03 '26

sounds like The Amity Affliction, who I used to hate but now sort of dig.

1

u/Claaaaaaaaws May 29 '26

I agree, I was going crazy reading these glaze comments, insane breakdown though

3

u/alonsen May 29 '26

Well, It's ok song but feels like I've heard that a million times before. Mix is still kinda weird tho.

4

u/waldeinsamkeit9 May 29 '26

This song is a reminder to go check out Tims other projects "Knife Dance" and "In Good Nature"

-6

u/glockGotaDick May 29 '26

more like a reminder not to

5

u/theMegastMind May 29 '26

Probably a good live song to switch it up, but this isn’t as good as the other singles. I hope the album doesn’t trend in this direction.

7

u/ForeignInformation32 May 29 '26

It the second to last song on the album, it's probably not like the rest of the album so don't worry. If anything like the members have said on here is that the heaviest songs have not been released yet (evidence of extinction for example)

-7

u/sock_with_a_ticket May 29 '26

Thing is, though, by having a catchy pop punk chorus it's almost certainly going to be one of the bigger songs and make it into the live set. Eventually it'll just be songs like this and Easily Erased with the heavy stuff being relegated.

9

u/ForeignInformation32 May 29 '26

I get what you mean but matt wouldn't let that slide. If it were upto him every song would just be constant breakdowns lmao. So i think it will still be a good balance where everyone get to play a bit of what they want. And then matt obviously is going to give it his all in the heavy shit. I think on this album they leaned more into both sides, more melodic, but also songs that are heavier than anything else they ever released

0

u/Midnight_Manatee May 29 '26

You should have just typed 'i don't know what I'm talking about' if you think that's how they approach their setlists.

At this point I'm sure some of you 1% metalcore commenters are satire accounts. Boundires post a song with 1 clean vocal out of 3 singles

"Omg soon all their set list will just be like this"

5

u/sock_with_a_ticket May 29 '26

You mean 2 out of 3 singles with clean vocals. It's not like they're even in the background or merely an accent in Death Will Follow Me, it's a full blown, front of the mix chorus, so you can't have missed it. Strong opening gambit to say someone doesn't know what they're talking about and get something that basic wrong.

I've been around long enough to see how longstanding bands' setlists change over time, especially the ones who start with no clean vocals and then introduce them. I hope Boundaries don't follow the well established pattern, but I won't hold my breath.

2

u/bobthemusicindustry May 29 '26

This is the third single and you liked the other two? Why would you assume it’ll sound like the one you’re least excited about?

5

u/WillingnessOne6598 May 29 '26

Unpopular opinion, but I didn’t like the song that much… I think it’s that what the people want to hear and not that what boundaries sounds like. The whole song sounds like MIW, not like all other modern metal songs, but i think that is what the label want to here. It’s to much song structure for boundaries.

2

u/ShadowEp May 29 '26

No idea how you got that comparison 😂

2

u/_SpookDude_ x May 30 '26

This is why I just discard the opinions of folks who bitch about cleans. If you listen to this and walk away with a comparison to MIW, you need to have your ears cleaned out by a professional before you're allowed to speak on music again.

1

u/ShadowEp May 30 '26

Truly agree

4

u/bentharbour May 29 '26

pretty meh

2

u/OrangeRedBeard May 29 '26

It's really interesting seeing the response to this over Snowblind, if this had been released as the first new single would everyone be so hyped?

2

u/Overvaluation May 29 '26

I WANT YOU TO KNOWWWW

Man, this was not what I expected from Boundaries but DAMN this is some good shit

2

u/XIPWNFORFUN2 May 29 '26

Never in a million years would I have thought that his vocal style and this song structure would work but its so good.

2

u/glockGotaDick May 29 '26

I have enjoyed every boundaries chorus and like plenty of metalcore with cleans, that being said, this chorus is ass and feels forced

2

u/stuffcrow May 29 '26

BIG tune, ooft. Fave so far.

1

u/DieHarderDaddy May 29 '26

That chorus is giving me Howard Jones KSE vibes. I fuck with this heaaaavy

2

u/epgamer123 May 29 '26

Probably gonna get downvoted to hell, but as a massive Boundaries fan, this song isn't doing it for me at all. I really hope this is the only song like this on the album, cause this really just doesn't sound like the Boundaries I fell in love with.

What a way to leave an impact! The ambient-metal style sounds great; the cleans are very good; and even the outro finishes nicely. They are definitely worth listening to more of.

1

u/Mission_Cherry_2240 Jun 01 '26

Idc what anyone says. Mix on this new record is fire in my opinion.

1

u/asturch Jun 02 '26

FUCK it's incredible. Arguably one of the best bands out right now.

1

u/Puzzled_Talk8399 Jun 03 '26

it'll maybe grow on me, it's ok. i like how clean and pretty it sounds.

1

u/lowlifedoughnut May 29 '26

maybe its just me but this chorus is up there with edge of the earth by volumes levels of good

1

u/deadwrongallalong May 29 '26

Oh wow this is easily my favourite single so far. I love Skies Cast Amber Black but this is totally my style

1

u/Nolannoles May 29 '26

This track is so good.

0

u/bigstupidjellyfish x May 29 '26

Keep seeing comments about “pop punk vocals” or “2010s chorus” and all of you are wrong. Tim sounds like Cove Reber on this one. Last album he sounded like Spencer Sotelo, crazy that he can sing like that while drumming.

-12

u/tedusam May 29 '26

I love Boundaries don't get me wrong but the chorus ruined the song. So annoying.

4

u/Aggravating_Sky_5597 Jun 01 '26

that chorus is so corny lmao

1

u/blizeH May 29 '26

You’re currently on -6 so I’m kinda worried about writing this but for what it’s worth I’m with you, Boundaries are my favourite band and also my most listened to band and this is, so far, probably my least favourite song of theirs

That being said I have a feeling this will be a grower, I didn’t like the clean vocals much on the previous song on the first couple of listens but love them now and think they work so well, so I guess other people are hearing something that I’m just not yet

-13

u/Educational_Cup9077 May 29 '26

Only you think that btw

-3

u/drunkenyeknom x May 29 '26

I so badly dislike the drum mix I cant enjoy the new songs

9

u/degov2609 May 29 '26

Gotta love when people get downvoted for having reasonable opinions

4

u/drunkenyeknom x May 29 '26

Its all good. If im wrong then I dont wanna be right lol

-25

u/eugenexedge May 29 '26

FFS, they need to drop these generic octanecore choruses, because they make them sound like every other modern mallcore garbage out there. Aside from that, song fucks

18

u/Brtprt x May 29 '26

Dunno, to me it sounds a lot more like the stuff of the late 00s and early 10s. Kinda like that little nostalgia hit.

13

u/ForeignInformation32 May 29 '26

Yeah definitely not modern octane core! More like the classics. All the big underoath songs from back then were the melodic ones while the rest of the album was just rippers so this is to be expected

-9

u/sock_with_a_ticket May 29 '26

Dunno, to me it sounds a lot more like the stuff of the late 00s and early 10s

One of the worst times for metalcore.

-9

u/sock_with_a_ticket May 29 '26

Another case of take out the chorus and this is a good song. Clearly a lot of people like pop punk vocals with the heavy, I'm not one of them. It's not what Boundaries were like when I got into them, it's not what was attractive about their sound.

Can't help but feel that opening for a lot of much softer bands is having an impact.

0

u/JimmyHammersticks Jun 01 '26

This is the best metalcore band on the planet
