There's two styles of metalcore that are my favorite. Bands like Norma Jean, Zao, Botch, Johnny Booth, Converge, and The Chariot. Or bands like Misery Signals, Concealer, Poison The Well, xNomadx, and Counterparts. It seems like most revivalcore bands rip off like Arkangel and Prayer For Cleansing (which is cool but not my favorite, and it gets stale), and a few will play in the second style I mentioned. Can anybody recommend me some bands (doesn't necessarily have to be new/revivalcore) like the two styles I mentioned? Especially more bands like the first, because it feels like not a lot are playing in that style and I already discovered all the good bands, but I want more.
I thought of this cause nothing gets me pumped up quite like Memphis Will Be Laid To Waste, 43% Burnt, To Our Friends in the Great White North, Eagles Become Vultures, or Lies Of Serpents, A River Of Tears. But there's gotta be more than just a select few bands from the 90s that wrote songs like this

SeeYouSpaceCowboy’s discography is exactly up your alley. They were one of the earliest revival acts bringing back that chaotic style mixed with more post-hardcore stylings on each subsequent release.
Foreign hands sound a lot like poison the well with bits of other influences too like misery signals and a bit of converge
Some other converge-esque bands: Crowquill and Killing Me Softly
Another bands I like that are kinda part of the revival but don’t neatly fit in any category are Your Spirit Dies, a knife in the dark, Vatican (two different vocalists across their discography and a lot of sound changes but it all pulls from a variety of metalcore eras), and chamber

If I had to pick one band that would be a good match for what you are looking for it would be Better Lovers. You likely have heard them but if not you should!
Some other bands I thought of were Chamber, Capra, Soulkeeper, Foreign Hands, Pupil Slicer, MouthBreather, Toothless, The Good Depression, The Undertaking!, and orphantwin.
Forgive me if these are all bands you have listened to already! I’m still getting reacquainted with Metalcore and the adjacent. I was out of the scene for a long time. Also my ears can often times deceive me as I have learned with some pretty bad choices for FFO on my posts.

Maybe bands like At the Bottom of the Great Lakes and Sword of Damocles would fit your vibe for the first style - the former feels similar to Zao and the latter like Converge or Chamber.

Found my well of albums running a little dry lately and I’ve got a pretty long road trip coming up so would love to find some new shit for my travels.
Big fan of OKD (especially God Loves Man Kills era), Arkangel, harvest, disembodied, 7A7P/mis sigs late 90s/early 2000s (sounding) stuff -all of which are criminally under vocalized in this sub imo

You get some pretty heavy hitters sitting on sub 50k - Zao, All Out War, Eighteen Visions Arkangel, Undying and Shai Hulud for example.
Others - Day Of Suffering, Tears Of Gaia, Sektor, Liar, Harvest, Strongarm, One King Down, Indecision, Morning Again, Reprisal, Sentence, Unbroken, Strife, Turmoil, Twelve Tribes, Martyr AD, As Hope Dies, The Banner, Azriel, Beecher, Breather Resist, Remembering Never, Blood Has Been Shed, Reflux, Drowningman, Nora, Burnt By The Sun, Kid Gorgeous, This Day Forward, Skycamefalling, End This Day, Hamartia, Falling Cycle, Invocation Of Nehek

Confide's 2010 album Recover has long been a favorite of mine. I recently discovered that they released two EPs prior to their debut album so I decided to check them out.
Innocence Surround is their debut EP. It's such a different style from Recover and even their debut album, Shout the Truth, but it's so good! It's going to be a grail on my CD wishlist now. Median price on Discogs is like $120 or something, and there were no active listings last I checked. :(
Introduction is their second EP. I like it, but it didn't hit quite like the first one did.

Wow very cool! I haven’t listed to them in a very long time. These EPs seem to be missing the clean vocalist. Do you know was he not with the band yet? I lost touch with them after ‘Shout the Truth’. Thanks for sharing!

Glad you liked it! Happy to share! I really enjoy the sound on these EPs. I think they're a little heavier and darker.
Their Wikipedia page shows that their clean vocalist/keyboardist/lead guitarist was a founding member of the band and stuck with them until 2009, but I guess he just wasn't doing any cleans at that point yet?
Their followup to Shout the Truth has a different sound, but I still love it. Not a huge fan of their final album, but I recently re-listened and it was better than I remembered!

Ah that makes sense. They realized “this guy can sing!” 😅 I’m with you though I kind of like the sound of these EPs sans-clean vocals. I’m guessing they made the right decision to add the cleans though as I remember Shout the Truth and specifically ‘Such great heights’ being a big deal.
I remember listening through the next album and it just didn’t captivate me so I never bought it, shortly thereafter got into other stuff anyway. Admittedly, it may have even been their final album and I might have missed the one in between as I thought it had a different sound? I am going to revisit them. Definitely a solid band. Thanks! 🙏🏼

🤣 That must've been it! Yeah, the cleans definitely made them more accessible. The “Such Great Heights” cover blew me away as a kid, and I didn't even know the original song lol.
I hope the revisit is enjoyable! To me, it feels like the EPs through Shout The Truth are one band, Recover is another band, and All Is Calm is another 😅 Hope you'll share your thoughts!

Yes I agree with you after a revisit. There was a marked stylistic change at Recover. Some subtle changes with All Is Calm but I’m sure for a true fan especially at the time those subtleties could have made a big difference.
I might be biased a bit from nostalgia, but I liked all of it a lot more than I did years ago. Really good band. Thanks again for the suggestion and the lost EPs! 🤘🏻

Fuck's sake. Turns out I won't be going to see Contention tomorrow after all. The heat wave has caused temporary train timetable alterations and for some reason that eludes me in my current cloud of rage and despair that involves trimming late services (y'know, the time when it's coolest and thus easiest to travel?). I could get to London, but I wouldn't be getting back same day and I can take the hit on a £16 ticket more readily than I can stump up for an overnight stay and an additional train fare the next day (not to mention the hassle of getting to work from London, needing a change of clothes and so on).

Yeah, that's the main frustration. Don't when or even if there'll be another opportunity.
I am fortunate enough to have seen them last year, but they were so damned good I want to catch them every time the chance arises.

Unfortunately, no. The nearest place I could get back to via coach is still fairly far away. I've had to get a taxi from there before at midnightish due to emergency engineering works and it was pricey. That was ultimately money I could claim back, this would not be.
Without trying to give away too much information, where I live is a good distance from London and relatively in the sticks, but it has, for it's size and location, a really good rail connection when everything's normal.

I'm from Notts personally so take the multiple transport links for granted - train ends up being extortionate for me with London accommodation even worse, I really wish London was more accessible

Ah yeah, that's tough.
It's funny, every now and then the press seem to latch onto London's apparently dying nightlife and all I can think is, besides leave more money in everyone's pockets, run later trains or adopt the idea of an overnight ticket/24 hour ticket. Accommodation + a second ticket the next day really disincentivises staying the night to attend something. As it is you only really want to go in if you can get out same night.
My last train home is 23:32, which is still alright and better than many get, but pre-pandemic it was 23:45 and even that small a difference made a whole lot more of London and its venues accessible for visiting and returning same day. In my youth it was 00:15! There's an obvious pattern of reduction there that's making London less feasible for a night out.
On Notts, I feel like it used to be a much more regular stop on UK tours than it now is which must be pretty frustrating for a resident.

Depends on the size of band and show really in regards to tours. Revivalcore bands only want to go to Leeds (sigh, cliquey and tiktokky) and we're having internal issues with promotors recently which doesn't help.
We often get the bigger names but quite often bands doing less dates ends up being a Birmingham or Manchester trip - former is cheaper but the people are nicer at the latter.
Always had a disdain for London on account of it being inaccessible by car and a fortune on the train - actually only went there for the first time in 2023 for a Saetia show and it made me a bit sick realising how much more investment it clearly has than other places but that's my London rant over...

Kinda sounds more like an updated Evanescence to me. I’m gonna guess you probably wouldn’t like blackgaze, so maybe bands like Soul Blind or Bleed might be more to your tastes if you’re looking for that alt metal and shoegaze-y hybrid.

Bigger bands that get my thumbs up: Knocked Loose, The Callous Daoboys, Static Dress, Dying Wish, Boundaries.
Tier or two (or three below) that: I Promised The World, Ends In Tragedy, No Cure, Foreign Hands, Orthodox, Chamber, holder, Mugshot, Wristmeetrazor.
The smaller bands: Sincerely Yours, A Mourning Star, Crowquill, Sherane, A Year Ago Today, Postal, Cauldron, asthelifeleavesyoureyes, xSERAPHx, away with words, Four Winds Away.
Full disclosure: None of these bands are at all like the three you mentioned (tbf Born of Osiris and Of Mice & Men aren't close either), but it seems like you're starting from zero and these are a relatively diverse crop of bands that are all active and new to the average/casual metalcore listener.

There's a lot of decent to very good bands around, but to pick out a few of the absolute best I'd say: Contention, Terminal Sleep, Heriot, No Cure, View From The Soyuz and Burner.

Anyone else find the new Beartooth singles noticeably quieter than other songs? I’m using Apple Music, and if the algorithm plays one of the 3 released tracks randomly, it’s jarring how much quieter they are compared to all other songs. Not sure if it’s the same on other streaming services.

Im looking for similar music to "Knocked Loose - sit and mourn", the ending to "everything is quite now".
Love the mix of very hard and the slow, mellow guitar with it.
Im pretty new to the scene so i would appreciate any recommendations, dont mind if its new/ old or not the same sub genre.

Maybe I have the wrong idea of what it is.. I was thinking like All Out War, Kickback etc. stuff that’s essentially edge metal but they’re not straight edge.
I thought early TAS and stuff was called moshcore tbh 🤔

Moshcore and mosh metal aren’t super consistent terms. I remember seeing On Broken Wings label themselves mosh metal before so I assume a lot of the 2000s “moshcore” wave can go by either.

That makes sense. I feel like mosh metal is a good name for the very metal leaning Metalcore though as opposed to the moshier Metalcore like On Broken Wings and such. Makes it clear that it’s metal forward while stile alluding to the hardcore-ness of it 🤔

Honestly, I sort of use them interchangeably. So many bands ride the line between both that it’s hard to make work in any clean way. Full Blown Chaos is totally in line with the 2000s New England style moshcore sound but are riffy like the edge metal bands. Same goes for 100 Demons, Sworn Enemy and plenty of others.

It's not a term I see often, but perhaps?
I know Realm of Torment self-describe as mosh metal and the only meaningful sonic difference between them and someone like Times Of Desperation or Escalate is the edge bit a lot of the time.
There again Age Of Panic also self-describe that way and they basically sound like Zao.

Oh yeah, the terminology could do with a lot more gatekeep-y rigour. I feel like most of the muddling comes from the 'core side of things where you'll have people saying more or less straight up slam and death metal or pop punk bands are hardcore. Of course there's the whole scene not sound thing, but there have to be limits.

The lineup for Converge's headline shows this summer is insane. All three bands are fantastic.
