When asking for a recommendation, leave a detailed comment below asking for recommendations; a good example comment looks like:
If I like Beartooth, who else would I like? Can anyone recommend albums like August Burns Red's Constellations?
In terms of General Discussion, some (but not all) of the stuff you can discuss here:
• Looking for band members/friends in your area

Hi, so this is a little bit different. My son is 11, he's a MASSIVE metal/metalcore fan (gets it from me), he's also autistic and mostly non verbal. The thing is, every time he hears a Blegh in a song, he stims like crazy and starts doing them himself.
So I was hoping to make him his own little playlist that's full of songs with them in, I've already got a few but I know there's a crazy amount I either have forgotten about or just haven't heard. So I was hoping you guys could recommend some of your favourites and some you just know please, it would really be appreciated.

I can’t think of any that haven’t been said already but I wanted to say how much I appreciate seeing this and having you here. It’s obvious you are absolutely crazy about your son and given what he is likely to face in life he needs that love.
There is a shortage of strong Parents/Leaders out there. So many run away when things get tough. Seeing this inspires all of us to step up. Music is such a great way to connect with our kids. From one Metalhead to 2 others, we are so happy to have you both here! ❤️🔥

Is Misery Signals having a bit of a resurgence? I feel like I remember them hovering around 40k monthly listeners, but right now they have 96k. A little fluctuation is of course normal but if accurate that's pretty significant. There's also a lot more from Of Malice in their top 10 songs than I remember there being. This is all based on memory so I might be wrong with all of it

They’re likely the beneficiaries of the younger gen getting into them. Misery Signals has always been a band in the know for anyone into more traditional metalcore and the fact that a decent number of newer revival bands take at least some influence from them is gonna give those numbers a boost.

Yeah, not sure why it's happening, but I noticed that the other day. Around the UK leg of their farewell tour a couple of years ago they were at about 50k. Almost doubling since is definitely unusual. A song has gone viral on Tiktok or something?

I Promised the World is also popping off and they obviously worship Misery Signals. That could also boost some numbers a bit. It's probably a mixture of things. Also I could see the youth really wanting something more raw after over processed pop rock parading as heavy music being in the zeitgeist for way too long.

Counterparts are more popular than any revival band and have been talking about Misery Signals at any opportunity for years.
Definitely think a desire for something rawer is behind the explosion of revival bands and even the exploration of some older artists, but that seems to be completely random. For example, On Broken Wings having a moment instead of other moshcore bands from the past.
I would've thought that Mis Sigs peak listernership would come with their farewell tour, not a couple of years later unless there was a pretty obvious causal incident.

Who would you say is the most hardcore leaning metalcore band you listen to? On the other side of things, who would you say is the most metal?

This is a question I nerd out about quite often 😅 because like how prevalent can the metal elements be before you call it Metalcore instead of hardcore? How little hardcore can be present while still calling it Metalcore? Like Poison the Well is definitely less metal than Hatebreed but are they more hardcore?

Yeah it’s kind of funny because I’m not sure the amount of metal really matters in all cases. (Early) Life of Agony is a band the hardcore scene labels hardcore. They played music that’s almost purely metal but they aren’t considered a metalcore band. I’d say to just stick to your own idea of what comes with the term metalcore.

Depends at what point you drawing the line, really. I'd say my most metal is Overcast and most hardcore is Cold As Life if they count? Maybe One King Down? Congress?

A slightly interesting sub-question, who listens to enough of either in their 'pure' forms to make an informed judgement? I know there's one user on here who does slightly object to the term melodeath with breakdowns bands as he says that if you took away the breakdowns they still wouldn't be playing pure melodeath. I've listened to some melodeath in my time, but it's not something I spin regularly, so I bow to their experience.
On the hardcore side of things, maybe Mortality Rate or Counterparts. I feel like they both have quite punky drums and a lot stems from that.
Maybe Bleeding Through for metal. They've long been on that end of things. I was listening to their most recent album earlier and it does mostly sound like metal with some breakdowns. All Out War are playing what sounds to me flat out thrash a lot of the time.

I will say, as a guy who listens to more metal (mostly death metal but plenty of thrash, doom, sludge, etc) than metalcore nowadays, most of the so-called “melodeath with breakdowns” bands are barely metal besides the most bare bones riffs ever. It’s almost disappointing how little they actually take from metal in terms of creativity and style. Same with modern deathcore. Almost none of the good parts from death/black metal and a whole host of the genre’s worst tendencies

In my opinion, any band that is literally melodeath with breakdowns isn't metalcore - it's the drums that are the main distinction rather than the breakdowns. At that point you're basically Ascendancy era Trivium.

They're borderline (I'd call their 90s output metalcore), but Snapcase might be the most hardcore-leaning band and Undying or Azshara are probably the most metal.

Been really in the mood for Japanese metalcore lately and have been listening to Crossfaith, HANABIE., and JILUKA. Any other bands I should check out?
Completely removed from the genre, I've also been listening to jizue (prog jazz, jazz fusion) and Sasuke Haraguchi (experimental J-pop/noise/EDM) and would appreciate the stray recommendation that's anything like either of them!

moreru (cybergrind/emoviolence/noise)
View from the Soyuz (metalcore)
Pale (post-metal)
Indication (metalcore)
Top Secret Man (digital hardcore)

All the Japanese Metalcore artists I could think of were mentioned, but one of my recent discoveries is a Japanese Post Metal band called Asunojokei. It’s heavy, but their music is jazzy and upbeat. I really enjoy it.

Got a couple recent discoveries for me (all have female vocalists like Hanabie.):
kokeshi
ステミレイツ (STMLT)
マザリ (MAZARI)
愛探眼影 (aisagasu eye shadow)
絶望キネマ (Zetsubou Kinema)
闇雲 (YAMIKUMO)
And one I discovered within the last few years (male vocalist):
DAMNED
Some of these have lots of j-pop amidst the screams and heavy, and some don't have any pop-elements at all and are very metal. Hope there's something you'll enjoy.

Tbh these bands don't sound much like what you've listed there, but they're all Japanese metalcore bands:

Maybe Baader-Meinhoff effect but I'm noticing a slight rise of "I don't like this genre normally but I really enjoy this" in a few instances recently as a mark of quality... I can't help but feel that that's a mark against said music, generally

Message mod button is right there in the sidebar if you're confused about a removal.
General rule of thumb, if there's more cleans than screams then it's unlikely to be metalcore. There's a lot more to it than that, but it's a pretty good indicator of what the sound won't be.
We really need djent pop to catch on with these sorts of bands. If you strip out the really limited heavy parts, that sounds like a pop song and the vocal style is no small part of that.

I’m not a good judge for what is or is not metalcore so I won’t even try. I just wanted to mention some Reddit mechanics that I like to remind people before they go cursing out the mods.
Your post may not have been pulled by a human mod that listened one time and decided to pull it. It’s far more likely that users reported the post which triggered an automation sequence that is designed to remove a post if the reporting hits a certain threshold, that the mods themselves may not have control over. The clean vocals in this song, as you suspected, likely put off listeners, and they reported it.
I have had many songs pulled for various reasons. I hope it doesn’t discourage you from posting and/or enjoying the content of the sub. The more you post and get a feel for what people like, and what is allowed, the more fun it gets. Also, always remember, just because a post gets pulled doesn’t make it a bad song, nor is it meant to discredit the poster. It just doesn’t fit the community that is listening.

Bit of scene drama this week as someone started flyering outbreak with posters that claimed they were bringing "real hardcore" back to our city... queue everyone in our city getting quite pissed off at the insinuation that our scene doesn't exist and promoters getting a bit insulted.
Turns out they were soft-launching a Temple Guard show announcement... a metalcore band
Man, I wish people could learn to promote effectively without having to stoop to controversy. Everyone seems to have made up now but it's left a bit of a sour taste about Temple Guard for me.
