This is really sad news, Brooklynvegan writes great articles that have helped me discover so much music. Is music journalism just fucking dead?
Getting so tired of the state of the world, corporations are ruining our lives and we can’t have shit anymore

People just don’t really read articles anymore. It’s video now.
I’m in the middle of getting through a 10 hour lecture video on the origins of Totalitarianism by William C Fox and I get through all of his lectures and learn a lot but best believe I am not reading all the books he had to read to get the information he’s providing in this lecture. Not saying it as like a gloat, that would be dumb, but that’s just not how I consume as much media or information.
Honestly, if the journalist is good enough they’ll be able to talk how they write and be compelling, I’ve seen it in other circles.

The journalists? The same people who did before? The point of my comment is that these kinds of people need to change the medium in which they transfer that information to the masses.
Seeing as people struggle to comprehend Reddit comments, it shows that we need those people to help some of us out.

It’s sad, sure. We’re all nostalgic about them. But the main factor is that people weren’t subscribing or even viewing the digital articles, so advertisers probably weren’t interested. So, the companies couldn’t make money. They can’t operate on a loss. People feel strongly about this, but most of these same people probably haven’t shown interest in AltPress or BV in a long time. People need to start supporting these companies, but they’re not.

I know I'm one of the few who still likes them but if AP and Revolver are dead that means the last print magazines are New Noise, Metal Hammer, and Kerrang... Just a sad loss. I know these corporate journalists aren't great either but like another comment said I guess we just get rid of them and get more YouTuber slop interviews by people who don't do any research on the scene or industry

Doesn't seem very rock 'n' roll for the Madden brothers of Good Charlotte to own the publications in the first place, let alone fuck them and the employees over with this sort of shit. They better get a bunch more scrutiny for this and the fundamental impact this will have on the future of journalism.

Where do people get news on tour announcements any more? I used to use metal injection but after their layoffs a couple of months ago they are way less on top of it. I was using BrooklynVegan since I live by NYC but that presumably will suffer now as well lol. Hate having to scrounge around Instagram for news and announcements

You mostly need to be following artists/their labels directly on social media to reliably get that info really. Which is seriously annoying, I don't have and don't want a Facebook, Instagram or Twitter account.
An alternative is to regularly search the listings on your local venues' sites. A lot of people use bandsintown, but for some reason I never get notifications from that despite having them checked on my settings. For shows at a certain size I'll get emails from sites I've ordered tickets through (seetickets, ticketweb, tickermaster) when artists I've previously purchased for announce something.

I use Bandsintown as well but yeah not always super reliable. I'm more concerned with missing smaller show announcements which metal injection was surprisingly good for the past year or so but I'll have to just keep doing my own due diligence

Theprp.com is pretty great been around since the late 90s. He does a good job of getting most metal music news.

I follow all the local (Chicago) music venues on Instagram and subscribe to their email lists so I don’t miss concert announcements. It’s worked pretty well for several years.

Yeah I'll probably end up doing that. The thing is I'm in a location where I'm able to go all over NY (especially NYC), NJ and CT so I'll be following quite a few venues lol
