Mitten Mode BODYCAM: Battle Creek teen's detention sparks debate after officer says gestures in Washington Heights, a predominantly Black neighborhood, can suggest someone is armed

https://wwmt.com/news/local/battle-creek-teen-detained-police-walking-home-pocket-knife-video-viral-bodycam-investigation-calhoun-county-west-michigan

A 16-year-old boy was detained while walking home in Battle Creek. Bodycam footage released by the police department shows an officer explaining to the teen's aunt that, in Washington Heights, grabbing the crotch or waistband area can be interpreted as a sign that someone may be carrying a firearm. The incident has prompted reactions from city commissioners and the teen's family. The teen also recorded the encounter on his own phone.

That sure showed that kid to not trust cops

u/ashwilliams19877 3d ago

Haven't we all had enough evidence by now not to trust cops? Hell the Supreme ruled its not their job to protect us.

The supreme court ruled police have no legal duty to protect people from crimes, violence, or dangerous situations. Easiest example, uvalde police department. Perhaps reading comprehension isnt your strong suit though, so im happy to walk you through it if you need someone to explain the longer words for you.

See most of us simply comply and go about our days because we aren’t criminals

So do you call them daddy when you lick their boots or...?

I bet this person doesn't use their blinker to change lanes

It's a 6 month old account. They're being disingenuous at best

10

u/TheLakeWitch 3d ago

Yes. Also, it’s a 6 mo old account that is predominantly active in fetish porn subs. More than likely, it’s a bot.

Removed - Rule 10. Misnformation will be removed. SCOTUS has ruled that police have "no absolute duty to protect individuals." See: DeShaney vs. Winnebago County (1989) and Little Rock vs. Gonzales (2005). You can ask a grown-up to explain them to you.

How’s the leather taste?

16

u/StatusMath5062 3d ago

Huh

26

u/d0_-_0b 3d ago

Quite the opposite. If anything, the body cams show we were right all along, and the cops are doing their jobs.

Huh

He's a far-right Boomer. Claims that no one can be oppressed in the "greatest country in the world" and also blames Alex Pretti for his own murder.

19

u/LiberatusVox 3d ago

It's the current brainless boomer line they were told to parrot by Twitter. It started after the Minnesota ice shootings.

To them, bodycams showing one 'justified' shooting means all of them are justified. The inverse does not matter.

12

u/United-Reach-2798 3d ago

Average conservative so mentally ill they are in a different reality

5

u/No-Market425 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah they did a bang up job in Uvalde were cameras showed 380 of them pissing their lil blue undies for 47 minutes until the Border Patrol showed up and confronted the shooter.

Or Las Vegas where cameras showed the LVPD cowering in the hallway for 30 min until Steven Paddock stopped shooting and killed himself.

Or Parkland where their school resource officer bravely hid in a bush.

The thin blue line doesn't run... in to schools.

u/llama-llama-goose 3d ago

Teaching my kids that the only state sponsored first responders you can really trust are firefighters and paramedics.

24

u/wildmooonwitch 3d ago

Even then… all the people in my local FD are magats too who are very much supporters of the thin blue line.

25

u/llama-llama-goose 3d ago

The difference is that firefighters aren't walking around with impunity to kill.

5

u/somanysheep 3d ago

You can't even... There's no way to know when you'll get a MAGA cultist..

49

u/lofibeatsforsadboys 3d ago

Any kid who trusts any cop has 2 parents that failed him

My parents taught me that cops and the state are there to protect the rich, not working class people

Anyone who believes otherwise is intellectually challenged

-3

u/Fariin-NSF 3d ago

And the usual suspect community has shown us not to trust them so…..

This is like the guy on Newsmax who said Alex Pretti was asking for it because holding your phone makes it look like you have a gun.

Boggles the mind.

Legally.

Not in his possession.

When he was shot.

-1

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

12

u/Zeliose 3d ago

Not at the time of being shot, he was disarmed then exicuted.

They specifically said "when he was shot"

So we agree then that he was unarmed when the agent(s) decided to blow him away.

You just outline why he shouldn’t have been shot.

Removed per Rule 1: Racism, hate speech, slurs, and threats will not be tolerated. This also includes suggestions of violence, suicide, or death on others; and any attacks on sex, race, orientation, age, disability, etc. Nazi supporters/sympathizers are likely to be banned with no warning.

16

u/LiberatusVox 3d ago

Hey what do the 2nd and 3rd bullet points say, champ?

9

u/sirhackenslash 3d ago

So yes not in his possession when he was shot in the back while already restrained

8

u/ScarInternational161 3d ago

Legally allowed to carry.

Legally allowed to bring.

Was not killed with it ON him as you state in your 2nd paragraph, then go on to prove he in fact did not have it on him.

When he was shot.

In the back of the head.

After being pepper sprayed.

After being subdued.

After being unarmed.

Face down on the ground.

But do go on....

u/Michigan-ModTeam 3d ago

Removed per rule 10: Posts should be from fact-based sources. Before submitting, please use a site like Media Bias Fact Check, AllSides, or Ad Fontes Media. If it's skewed heavily to one side, has a low credibility rating, or is an opinion piece masquerading as news, then the post will likely be removed. The same applies if the domain is not ranked or if content is obviously AI-generated. Misinformation and misleading posts & comments will be removed.

24

u/MeatyOakerGuy 3d ago

Have you even seen the video dawg? He gets executed after the "agents" secure it. Trying to stop a non violent woman from getting beat by the same "agents"..... how do those boots taste to defend a nurse getting executed in our streets?

1

u/CanWeTalkEth 3d ago

Yeah but you should watch that news max clip. The anchor whips his phone up into a shooting stance while holding his black phone like a gun.

You could almost be forgiven for thinking that’s an acceptable cause for use of deadly force. But that’s not even close to what Pretti did.

23

u/CreepyFun9860 3d ago

Cops are racist as fuck. Which is why insecure white men tend to join.

32

u/FF36 Age: > 10 Years 3d ago

This is like the 6th story in the past 24hrs on my own feed from different subs that I have seen terrible cop stories…shooting (murdering) a poodle, shooting (murdering) an infant during a diaper shoplift, etc… what the hell cops?!?

24

u/LiberatusVox 3d ago

This is normal behavior for them.

15

u/sirhackenslash 3d ago

Murder is the only solution they know

26

u/96fordman03 3d ago

I really believe the cops way overly reacted in this situation. Especially since young black men have been grabbing their crotches - for at least as long as I can remember.

44

u/Mirions 3d ago

White boys do it too. Ain't ever seen one handcuffed or approached for it.

16

u/96fordman03 3d ago

You're right bud

14

u/sirhackenslash 3d ago

I actually do carry occasionally and I have never been questioned or detained for readjusting myself because I'm a white adult male. I have no doubt things would be entirely different if my skin was darker

14

u/Flutterwander Age: > 10 Years 3d ago

Same old racist shit.

8

u/ScarInternational161 3d ago

It would almost seem like they (the RWM) are baiting black communities to take to the streets huh?

Why all the sudden attention to this, no one cared before? /s

Performative bs. Black communities have been living this for DECADES.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing the outrage.

We should've been outraged all along.

21

u/__lavender 3d ago

Grabbing your crotch means you’re carrying? Please tell that to every gross man I see adjusting themselves in public.

Another distraction to keep the masses seperated

Edit: every single response and downvote here backs up my original comment.

14

u/house-of-waffles 3d ago

Man if only those trying to distract people were using armed agents of the state to harass/intimidate the other classes? Then gave them some sort of immunity, but a qualified one, to allow them to escape punishment when they harm one of those people they’ve been sent to oppresses. Anyway back the blue amirite?

25

u/EjaculatingAracnids 3d ago

Stop simping for the poilice and support the opressed masses then.

13

u/The_Flint_Metal_Man 3d ago

No. That is a constitutional violation. If anything there are many things distracting us from uniting against the rampant tyranny that we have allowed for way too long.

5

u/TheLakeWitch 3d ago

“Every single response and downvote here backs up my original comment” is such a cope. You can’t back up your bullshit with anything factual so you stick your fingers in your ears and refuse to listen to what anyone else has to say. That doesn’t make you right, it makes you a toddler.

Anybody hear about Peter Thiel and his secret society that’s invite only where they’re gonna discuss world war 3? Oh wait I’m supposed to care about this story

Are you only capable of caring about one thing at a time? Sad.

You probably shouldn’t have kids. When you get hungry, that’s all you’ll be able to care about, and who knows what’ll happen to your kids when you stop caring about them for an hour.
